Those are sweet too. I chose the Saitek because it had some nicer reviews. But they are very equal in most things. I also wanted the flatter profile of mine.

Marah,

You could also use automation software like AutoMate 6 or QuicKeys, which would allow you to automate tasks with any keyboard.

I also have an Eclipse II and I really like it. I like to work in low "vibey" light and could never see my keyboard. This takes care of that and I find myself far less frustrated. It also looks super cool and adds to the ambiance of the room. Nice that a little light spills from the sides softly illuminating the surrounding area. I dig the purple and like the fact that you can easily adjust the brightness. One of the best things is that the keyboard feels solid - has some nice weight to it and stays put.

That's true. It's not just a bunch of pretty lights... it's a solid keyboard too.

Hey Steve,

In case you really need something like that, you could easily set that up with the automation software that I mentioned earlier.

Scott, although it was meant as a joke it would actually be very useful!

I can't be bothered most of the time to set up a punch recording loop so I'd take it a step further and have a single keystroke to stop the recording, undo the take, rewind and restart the recording; a sort of Spacebar>Crtl+Z>W>R setting.

That should be doable with the Cyborg software. It is meant to deal with keystrokes.

That Saitek Cyborg looks interesting. How programmable is it? I see it has 12 programmable keys, and I looked at the documentation, but there's not a lot of detail in there.

I'm looking for a keyboard that will let me quickly and easily program keystrokes. But also one that feels good. I'm currently using a really old Gateway AnyKey keyboard. I love this thing and have used it with every computer I've had since that first Gateway. It's still in great physical condition with solid non-spongy keys, but its memory is slowly going. It's a PS2 and the memory is entirely onboard. It hasn't been manufactured in over a decade. What makes it especially cool is not only that every key can be programmed but it comes with a second set of 12 function keys and a second set of arrow keys. So it's really hard to find something to take its place.

Take a peek. Isn't she lovely?

Funny you should be using that... I'm still using my old Keyboard (Plain one.. not the Anykey variety) that came with my first Gateway 2000 computer in the mid 90's. That thing still works great despite heavy use. Now keyboards that come with systems are pieces of junk, but that thing is heavy and solid.. and still going on and on!

Hey Tom is that a USB or PS2 keyboard? My fingers are tired just looking at it. I think you found Hitlers typewriter.
The Cyborg looks like a really nice board but why wouldn't they make it PS2 compatible? USB keyboards into PS2 adaptors are numerous. Perhaps not in gaming circles. Usb powered lights?

I agree with you on this. There is no reason it couldn't be PS2. I have a lighted KB that is PS2 the Logiisys. So USB is not needed for the lighting. It seems most people have USB not all have PS2 ports. I think that is one reason. I prefer PS2. In this case the Cyborg is so good that I am willing to use USB.

Same here! With the EL backlight on mine was useless as it hummed loudly ...

Hey Steve,

Yep, those automation programs that I mentioned can do that too. They're made to automate pretty much any mundane task that your computer can do on its own. Actually, they can do even more than that, because if you really want, you can program your own scripts and have the computer make some decisions on its own. You just have to be careful that you don't give birth to the next generation of AI...

For those that work with Sonar in low light or have vision issues there is a QWER keyboard that may help. Saiteik Cyborg. I have it and although its mainly used for gaming it works very nicely with Sonar. The important thing about it is that the keys are nicely lighted. They can be adjusted to suit in color and brightness. I recommend it as a really great keyboard. Here is a link. Types nice too.

I checked them out before I went with the Saitek. They have a good reputation but they don't have the color confirmation of the Saitek. or the touch sensitive control. They don't weigh as much either. In the end its a matter of taste. Either will work just fine.

Eesh! You guys and your peer pressure. Just picked up the Saitek Eclipse II upon reading this thread.

Glad I did, tho. The mellow backlit keys are perfect for my dark DAW setting. Wish I'd heard of these long ago.

Here's where I got mine. I found many other sellers as well using Google Shopping. And the prices are better than the Saitek website itself.

What ever you all do don't buy from Saitek. They are not cheap at all. I got mine from Newegg for $79. MicroCenter had it for $99. These prices are for the Cyborg model.

Heavy; nice one I know you are going to like it. I posted this because I wanted to let you all know that this sort of thing was available and worked. The title says a lot.

Also I was a little hesitant to post this thinking no one would care. Boy was I wrong. The response has been rather nice. Thanks to Brandon he put it in a really good light too. I am grateful to him for that. Scott has been just wonderful in keeping this alive. You all have been truly great to me on this, thanks.
