For those that work with Sonar in low light or have vision issues

Hello,

I don't see how it could help those with "vision issues." But it's a very nice looking piece of gear. I touch type (including top line numbers and 10 key pad). I can't look at the KB or it slows me down. I learned to type that way out of survival (in Ye Olde typewriter days). Is there anyone learning this skill in the modern era?

True about those that touch type. Many don't. I don't believe that you never look at the KB though. The computer KB is more then a type writer keyboard. Many more keys.

Is it working in other apps? Can you type a sentence with space between the words?

Nope, even tried to get the BIOS to recognize it as "any key" on boot up - no go. Am in contact with Saitek support, will be troubleshooting this evening. May have to break out my old fighter pilot helmet and put the visor down, just doesn't feel right sitting at this keyboard without it...

This is not good. I feel a bit responsible and hope I can offer some useful advice. If you just got it and if it came from a local store then take it back now. If it came from the internet call them and have them replace it. There is no good reason for you to have it not working nor is it your problem outside of the hassle. It is their problem and they need to right it. ASAP. There should be no charge to you in either case for a replacement.

Not a biggee John, I certainly understand the risk when I buy (Newegg.com, btw). Am sure it'll get made right. I do still have the old keyboard which is in good shape. Besides, I spill more than it cost at most happy hours!

You are very welcome. I am glad you like it. BTW it does work with the lights well in the day too. But the night is where it shines.

He he, I was really tempted when I first heard of it. But I seem to replace my keyboard 1 to 2 times a year because of some abuse *a-hem* so I figured I'd see if it can withstand some bashing before I'd go buy it.

It makes me think of the Xynergy system from Fairlight (which is VERY expensive compared to this keyboard) and would probably add a cool feel to a DAW. I use my studio for video and digital arts as well so wouldn't mind a KB like that

It's just amazing that they could make each separate key configurable with its own character display. That is very cool and I wish I could afford one, but no way at that price...

I saw that when I did my research the second time around. When I saw the price I went no further. It was the quickest I ever left a web page.

Really? I was thinking of selling my car to buy it he he. It took me long time to leave the website. I bought a cheap funky looking lamp instead. Best remedy for GAS there is.

Hey, if I had the money to spend, then I might buy it, but I'm not going into debt for a computer keyboard.

You could always say its a business expense. Then you could be the very first on your block to have it. Maybe in the whole town. Then when you tire of it I could clear it off your desk though I would require a small fee for doing so.

I wonder if Bill Gates has it? Because I was so quick to leave the site does it have it so as you open a new program will it configure it self to the new program automatically? That would be cool.

True true. There are better things to get into debt for. Some people probably did do it for a keyboard, tho. I think I'll stick to logtech or whatever. Like I said, I wear them out quick.

That's the hard part, man. It does change buttons to what ACTIVE progam you have open. If you switch between Sonar and Soundforge, the keys change labels acordingly...

What? Are you kidding me? It also reconfigures itself when you switch software applications on the fly? Damn, maybe it is worth that price then. That's gotta be the best computer keyboard in the world.

I don't think anyone posted info about those Korean Luxeed LED Keyboards. I do like how the individual keys light when pressed. And I think it can be programmed to display single colors.

Warning...video may cause seizures

Yeah man.

check This video out. You can bind different layouts to different programs. And you can really customize the thing. It's great!

The video with an older version - imagine how the new ones are working

Compared to the Optimus it looks like a cheap tacky Christmas tree ornament!

Marius, another cool latin name......makes me think of the famous Roman Consul-General Gaius Marius!

Christmas Ornament! That was the description I was looking for! Still, I think it's pretty cool to show off with! he he

I actually don't know much about Consul-General Gaius Marius. Apparently my name has it's origin somewhere in the south of France and supposedly means a boy from the sea or something like that. But my friends in other countries tend to call me Mars which is the Roman God of War so WATCH OUT!!!!

Nah, I'm rather peacefull

It looks like the Luxeed is a step up from the Saitek, but it doesn't even compare to the Optimus.

I don't think so if you look at it closely the Luxeed the lettering is not clear when lit. The Saiteks have crisp clear lettering.

The luxeed looks more like a gadget and not a tool with cool features that also have a practical use. It would be hillarious to have in the studio but the Optimus would be really usefull! Same goes for the Saiteks with their really neat illuminated keys in dark studios. I don't think I'd need a disco light show in front of me when recording or writing he he

BTW I purchased a new keyboard yesterday. A Logitech S510 I think it's called. I killed the other one at a gig friday night. If the Optimus was Beer and abuse proof I'd love to have that. It's illuminated and really cool and has slightly larger keys so they are easier to hit I suppose;)

The Cyborg does have zone lighting. The keypad for example can be a different color.
