OT: Sort of . In a dark studio on a rainig night.

For those that work with Sonar in low light or have vision issues there is a QWER keyboard that may help. Saiteik Cyborg. I have it and although its mainly used for gaming it works very nicely with Sonar. The important thing about it is that the keys are nicely lighted. They can be adjusted to suit in color and brightness. I recommend it as a really great keyboard. Here is a link. Types nice too.

Man am I happy you posted here. It lends credibility to this posting. I was worried I might be called a gamer.

The one you have is a great one too. It has a great review history.

I had also have the Logisys illuminatedkeyboard and it has some nice features but it is no good for the lighting of the keys. It is hard to see in daylight and impossible to see when lighted. Sort of defeats purpose of the lighting. Useless as a lighted keyboard.

The Saitek suffers from none of that. Its clear at all times and kinda neat at night. Makes the studio look a little like NASA. That and the MC and the rack of gear is most impressive. Not that any of it does anything.

    Hi John,
Followed the link to the keyboard. Very nice. Kind of reminds me of Battlestar Galactica, which I'm all about.

Let's see: I'm not supposed to buy anything... I'm not supposed to buy anything.

    Ah well. Gotta have it.
I wonder: is there a wireless version? I'm not big on wires these days, but I suppose I could live with it.

What the client doesn't know can't hurt him! (Anybody remember the "idiot" panels with a couple of knobs and a few switches so we engineers could "tweak" a sound to pacify the producer or artist?)

I hear you loud and clear but think of it as saving your eyes. I don't think it has a wireless version. But if there is one it should be on their web site. Heck I wanted a PS2 version but I had no choice but to go with USB. It was worth it.

To be honest the rack actually does stuff.

Thats because you have it in the studio and it thinks it has talent. If you could only train it.

No hum at all or any other unseemly behavior. It has some nice positioning ability too.

Does anyone here know of this kind of keyboard, but with ergo features? I dearly love my Micro$oft Natural keyboard -- haven't had any serious tendonitis issues since I switched from a standard keyboard 5 years ago.

I think Logitech may have a lighted KB that may have that feature but I don't think so. Sorry. However it can be positioned better then most others. That could be helpful for you. It has front and back adjustments. Or it can lay flat. Also the palm rest can be adjusted.

Yes, I am a gamer... both PC and PlayStation 3. I love my PS3... the best gaming system on the planet.

Of course, I would never load a game on to my DAW... no way, no how. I have a separate system for games and other junk (uh, I mean stuff).

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think it looks pretty cool, especially when you can change the color and brightness to fit your mood. When I'm calm and cool, I use blue. When I'm pissed off that I have to work on a nice evening, I use red.

Me too!LOL From what I understand the keys are laser etched making them very sharp and clean. Another thing that makes it work so well is how each key is fully lit. Even the period key shows up with it on dim lighting. I am very happy with it. Its really great you have one because you do so much writing. I feel exonerated.

That Saitek Cyborg looks interesting. How programmable is it? I see it has 12 programmable keys, and I looked at the documentation, but there's not a lot of detail in there.

I'm looking for a keyboard that will let me quickly and easily program keystrokes. But also one that feels good. I'm currently using a really old Gateway AnyKey keyboard. I love this thing and have used it with every computer I've had since that first Gateway. It's still in great physical condition with solid non-spongy keys, but its memory is slowly going. It's a PS2 and the memory is entirely onboard. It hasn't been manufactured in over a decade. What makes it especially cool is not only that every key can be programmed but it comes with a second set of 12 function keys and a second set of arrow keys. So it's really hard to find something to take its place.

Take a peek. Isn't she lovely?

I prefer the $25 option of a flexi-neck desk lamp and dimmer to throw soft light onto the keyboard. Those look nice, but not $120 nice.

MM I had a great one way back in the PC days. Pre PS2. It had a calculator and 24 F keys all programmable with a simple DOS command line entry. It was solid as a brick. I loved it heavy as it was it died after I speilled Coke Cola on it. A very sad day.

On this one it can be programed too. It comes with the software for that. I haven't done programing on it yet because most of my needs are fulfilled with the Mackie Control. Besides it shows its gamer intent by having a game mode that activates the extra function keys. I haven't done that yet. I have had it for a while too. I just haven't had a pressing reason to do anything with them. So I can't testify as to how well they would work for you. Also for complete disclosure I am a mouse centric user. I have a cheap MS mouse with tilt wheel laser type that works a charm. It only has 4 buttons. But the most useful buttons I have ever had. This time MS did the software for it right.

I paid $79 for it from Newegg. Brand new in the box. Even Microcenter had it for $99. I should say its really worth it. It is a quality keyboard. Many of us rely on them.

That brings back memories!!!! It's so amazing that the brain hears what it thinks it's supposed to with a little "tweaking".

I can see that, and it's appeal, just wouldn't be able to justify the cost, myself. Love the Sci-Fi look though.

    Marah,

You could also use automation software like AutoMate 6 or QuicKeys, which would allow you to automate tasks with any keyboard.

Those illuminated keyboards are cool in the studio, but I can't tell you how annoying it is in the bedroom when you are trying to get some sleep.

This is what I use. It's the macro keys that do it for me. Increase that wave by 3db. Hit a macro key. Easy.
