Seeing as the US has the ability to more or less directly command our armed forces and form our foreign policies, I believe I should be entitled to a vote!

For some reason they cover it extensively in the UK

Like it's vital we should watch.

All we want to know is who won, their plans for wrecking our economy further and when the next invasion is.

RE: OT: Today Is Election Day! 2008/11/04 11:16:10 (permalink)
I just got back from voting. There were a few... irregularities. They had 3 electronic machines and one paper ballot booth. There was a line out the door of people going for the electronic machines, so they were mentioning "you might get done faster if you use a paper ballot". So people started doing that. Unfortunately, the election people didn't really have that procedure down pat and were marking down names in the wrong ledger, then crossing them out, and putting electronic voter's names in those slots. They were really confused.

Then one of the election guys told the others "we only have 50 paper ballots, so please don't have them vote paper unless they specifically ask for it". Which as I understand it is normal procedure for those who don't trust the machines. But the one person kept saying "you'll get done quicker if you use paper ballot". That person was really not the brightest bulb on the marquee. The other election person had to tell her to just stop sending people over to the paper ballot. Ultimately, it looked like there were two election workers who were competent, two who were inept, and one who I couldn't say one way or another who just sort of wandered around trying to find something useful to do.

Ultimately, it took about an hour which I thought wasn't too bad. Especially considering that there are a bunch of close local races where I am, and turnout looks to be good.

The only good thing about our elections in the UK - Is that as long as you can afford to loose your deposit Anyone can stand to become an MP.

Which means on the day of the election you can have the Prime minister stood on the platform next to a complete Idiot dressed as a Dragon or an Astronaut or whatever.

The returning officer has to read all the candidates names out and the votes they have polled, so of course the more embrassing name you can choose the better

    You ought to try it

It can really jazz up, a pretty dull night.

... and that is why the country is not run by musicians and actors. While they claim to be open-minded and creative, they are second only to public schoolteachers in their ability to regurgitate dubious party dogma.

In any case, one SHOULD go vote today. Unless one is simply to dumb and uninformed to do so. The true strength of the US system is in its full glory today, and whatever the outcome, it will be the citizens who will choose.

I got to the polls when they opened this morning. I waited about 25 minutes. When I left there was no line at all! Lots of people early voted here in south Florida. Hopefully there will be a clear winner this time and no controversy.

Hopefully he is all out of gynormous screw-ups. We are talking about bush though.

I don't think he is and you can be certain he's going to try to really screw things up for the next president. If the people elect McCain, we can expect another 4 years of wars, failed economy and job losses.

    Shut the F*** Up! Socialist~!
