Randy, Earlier in the thread you complimented quite a few people for taking the time necessary to come up with some criteria and/or listen at least a little bit critically to the entries before sending in their votes. With this I wholeheartedly agree. That is why I was rather disappointed with your latest comments: --and send it out to EVERYONE in your address book. In these remaining hours, let's get that link to hundreds, Thousands of people, friends, family, everyone under the sun, and encourage them to bury Bitflipper with ballots! He's on the job - he's ready to tally up all the votes. Let's make him really work during these remaining hours of the contest. Do it! Let's shake up the vote and end this contest with a HUGE explosion of enthusiasm! This gives the strong impression that it is now more important to have a large number of votes, with no regard for whether any thought was put into making them. With this I wholeheartedly disagree, and I don't think it was the original intent of the project. Sorry to be negative, but I feel that it is disrespectful to the people who put all that time into their entries to now basically be encouraging a corruption of the original intent with a large volume of votes, many of which may have little or no integrity. In fact, you seem to be encouraging almost the same kind of behavior that forced the closing of the original poll. I'm not trying to discourage anyone who is interested from voting, but IMHO the level of interest required for voting should be more than just knowing someone who submitted an entry. Let's make this be something we all can learn from and be proud to have been a part of.

My dear Paul - I didn't mean to suggest that we have people vote without listening. In that post I indulged in a bit of enthusiastic hyperbole, encouraging people here to get the Shootout site to more people because there is actually plenty of time for the entries to be gone over and voted on. I didn't mean to contradict what I said earlier, the quote you posted from me. While I'm sure there are some voters who just voted for whatever number they were asked to vote for, I'm also sure they are in the vast minority. There is still time for someone to take the time to legitimately vote. That's my point. We've had a nice turn out, and there's always room for more votes. I'm only suggesting people take this last opportunity to make more people aware of the contest. I'm not suggesting we try to stuff the ballot box with biased, or random votes that don't mean anything. ---I seem to be spending my day apologizing and explaining myself! Randy B.

LpMike75 Do we get to see the results 9/1/10 or is voting still going on until midnight 9/1/10? Hi, Mike - I guess you missed my clarification a few posts back: Voting ends at midnight, Pacific Time, Sept 1 - at the end of the day. There's still one more day for people to take a listen and vote - hence my suggestion that it's not too late to let people know about the contest. Then you'll need to give David "Bitflipper" and me a day to square things away so we can post the results. Randy B.

Thanks for the clarification, Randy, I feel much better now. I didn't really think you meant to encourage voluminous thoughtless voting, but the choice of words seemed to open the door for that. Yes, everyone who has an interest in this project and hasn't yet voted, please take some time to listen to the entries and cast your ballot!

Well, it's 1:30 AM on 1 September, so voting has ended. The winner will be announced later today. [UPDATE: This is in error, voting ends midnight 1 September] Curiously, most of the last-minute votes that came in tonight all voted for the same entry, and only that entry! Weird, huh? Last week that would have pissed me off, but as these probably bogus votes will not change the outcome of the poll I'm not concerned. Plus, it's 1:30 AM and I don't get concerned about too much after midnight. Makes for restless sleep. But jeez, if you're going to have your friends vote for you at least ask them to listen to the entries first!!! Some people took a great deal of care in making their selections. Submitting a vote without so much as listening to the entries is nothing but a big middle finger waving in the face of those who took it seriously and honored the spirit of the exercise. OK, sorry for the rant. Did I mention it's 1:30 AM and I'm up counting votes instead of sawing logs. I'll be in touch later today... [Update, next morning, with a clearer head: I really am sorry for last night's rant. Not sorry enough to edit it, because the ballot-stuffing still irks me. But I want to make it clear that I do not blame any of the contestants, and there is nothing to make me believe that they instigated this behavior themselves. They were simply the victims of having too many helpful friends.]

ok, now I'm confused. Randy said yesterday in post #154 that voting ends at midnight Sept1 at end of day and emphasized that there was one more day to vote. Now bit has closed the vote saying it's 1:30AM (at time of posting) I've not voted due to not being able to listen to all the entries yet and thought I could do that tonight. I guess not. For what it's worth, the entries I've heard are great. Well done to everyone.

bitflipper Well, it's 1:30 AM on 1 September, so voting has ended. The winner will be announced later today. In the UK midnight occurs at the end of the day, not the beginning. It's still September 1st here and we are something like 9 hours ahead of you so by my reckoning there should still be another 22 odd hours of voting to go!

So, now it's 8:00 AM Pacific Time, Sept 1, and there are SIXTEEN HOURS left before the polls close. I'm waiting to hear from Bitflipper. Everything will be straightened out, I'm sure - He just somehow jumped the gun on closing the voting. SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION. Karyn - So you still have time to vote! Hope you do. Twigman - "...In the UK midnight occurs at the end of the day, not the beginning..." And it's the same here. We just had some wires crossed on this, not sure how it happened. Jimbo - If you got an email with your ballot to that special contest email address, it will be counted. Stand by everyone--We'll straighten it all out! Randy B.

100% risk free. Says so right in the email, and no bigshot from the Department of Minerals would lie about that, would he? And just because he's an employee of the South African government doesn't mean he necessarily knows how to spell "South Africa", right? I'm sure that doesn't indicate he's actually working out of an internet cafe in Nigeria.

We need to realize that our friends overseas may not have full native language fluency even if English is their native language. Clearly this was a quick email (because he wanted to inform us so we can all reap the 20% quickly)- and we all know that government email programs never have spell checkers. So I believe that this very good hearted person is only trying to "spread the wealth". I'm on board and will let you all know just how rich I become. Any day now I am sure I will have really good news. I just went to the store and tried to buy a Snickers bar. It seems I have nothing in my bank account. I wonder how that happened?. Oh well, still waiting for my 20%. Any day now I am sure.
