Dude, some hippy broke into your studio and is playing your guitar!

LOL

And is that a tambourine around his ankle?

Yes, that's a tambourine.

He has spent the last 8 years doing rap, and recently decided to switch gears. He is now writing and recording kind of a 70's rock flavor album.

Gee thanks man! Haha - it sure is a departure from how the former owner lady had the room decorated!

I admire everyone for posting their spaces. Some quality gear out there.

The Outdoor Arena

The Martin Workstation

The Previous Incarnation

Sitting on that automan at the Martin Workstation changed my whole attitude about writing and playing. I was closer to the floor. I liked being closer to the floor and not in a chair. So I ripped apart the old configuration including the two office desks used to support everything and built an entirely new studio layout centered around the height of that automan:

After tweeking and adding everything I needed into the mix these are the final shots. I can now record ideas with the computer off with the push of a single button on the 88oex or the little digital recorder on the mic boom:

Everything is very low to the ground which I like very much. It helps to have comfy carpet and lots of padding underneath it:

Double pull out shelves tuck completely under the desk top and pull in and out independently of each other:

Three auxiliary keyboards are all mounted on the wall and I can play the bottom midi piano comfortably on the automan or on my knees (soft carpet a must!):

An extra set of speakers for the Keyboard Station:

Drums are now on the left instead of the right. Lots of room:

The mixer is now set up to send a stereo feed of all the instruments to the 880ex when the computer is off. No more waiting for the computer to boot and set up when improvisation and spur of the moment ideas come a callin':

Some old gear porn:

I hope you enjoyed this little journey in pictures. I believe this could be one of the only studios built this low to the ground. I will never go back to a desk chair again.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Hey space_cowboy...

Why do you think I have Toft equipment?

At home I just have a small Mackie mixer and at work (church) we have an Amek console in the studio (and a MIDAS FOH).

This'll take a few pics -

A long shot of the "booth" -

Closer look at the main position - note the mic next to the monitor, explain that in a moment -

My QS7.1 and VK-7 (I've got my eye on an Alesis Ion in the local Craigslist - might pick it up tomorrow. A knob-driven synth is the last item on my wish list...)

My newest arrival - a circa 1960 145 Leslie (you can just make out a Leilani lap steel (ca.1945) sitting on top -

As I've mentioned in other posts, my main slant is capturing live performance, so I've got my front living room set up for that. Hard to get a good full picture - here's one side -
And yes - Tango is a cybernetic cat, in this picture she's trying to destroy me with her lazer eyes...

And the other -

And the facing wall - here's where that mic comes in, it's a talkback to the live room, either thru the little monitors or the headphone system. There's a 16x8 snake bringing 14 channels into the "booth" (all 16 if I need'em) and multiple monitor mixes back into the live room.

And then one other room in the house is available for iso purposes - amp tracking, vocals and such -

What is my 'toft'?

I suspect he's asking about this picture that you helped me format. Please allow me to comment.

It is all that I had hoped it would be. I had considered getting a later Sony version MCI 636 that was located by a technician friend for me down in West Palm, but I waited for the Toft instead. I am glad I did. But it was a long wait for the 1st batch buyers. You may remember how long that wait was if you spent time at Gearslutz back then. They are just now about to release the meter bridge. That alone was a 2 year wait.

Good eyes, there - yeah, I ran a record store out here for a year or so, snagged a bunch of flats and such while I was there. And hey- when you've said Knofler/Atkins, you've pretty much said it all about taste and tone.

And yeah - the gear does the job purty well.....
