While loading up 8PE today, sat twiddling my thumbs and trying to stave off the first signs of swine flu (actually it's man-flu - a MUCH more virulent strain), I took some photos. Hope you like 'em

Yes. Very nice, and I see you have a picture of the great Sheik Yerbouti on the wall.

This is the control room.

I have an 18x12 drum/live room, a 15x12 live room and a 6x6 vocal booth. The building is 119 years old.

It's messy because I'd rather record than clean...

Nice!! Lots of Lava Lamps!!

I'm fairly new to all of this, so pardon if I'm asking something that is basic knowledge.  But what's with this fixation on lava lamps?  It's most amusing, to be sure.  But where did it come from?  I'm pretty sure it's not that their shape make them great sound diffusers.

It is a scientifically quantifiable fact that your creative flow increases by around 20-40% if there is a lava lamp within visual range.

That's true Jonbouy, but having 2 within visual range of the same color increases the creative flow by exactly 30%! Remember, it's all about balance and being symmetrical. That's the key to decreasing the fluctuation between 20 and 40%.

Definitely essential studio equipment.
But to be truly effective, they must be turned on.
I only have one, but in my smallish room, the benefit factor is a steady 28.2376594%(approximately)

Well, I was told many years that having a lava lamp in your studio made for a really nice vibe. So, I figured if one is good, eighteen would really get the juices flowing!

I will say, when they're all turned on, I can cut the thermostat back...!

Having just acquired a new Blackberry and sorted out (hopefully!) my Photobucket account, I thought I would share these photos of my studio for you

It's been great fun setting up this project studio, as always its a work in progress. The area outside it is a lofted landing area and has nice acoustics for recording vocals as well as acoustic instruments, and can accomodate guest musicians. I run a loom out and use my Tranzport or stay in the studio and use a mic patched into my headphone amp for comms.

Hope you like

I am saddened by the number of links that are no longer such.

My quest: in one of these "pictures of studio" threads I saw speakers atop what appeared to be 1 foot cubes of black plastic.

I am interested in the source of such.
