Presonus Will Have a Special Cakewalk Customer Crossgrade Price NEXT WEEK
Rick Naqvi of Presonus said today they've been working on a special crossgrade for Cakewalk users and should have something as early as next Tuesday. Again, I don't have details on the price but I'm hoping it will be worthwhile.
I understand there's no rush to stop using Sonar but if anyone's interested this could be an alternative down the road. I don't work for Presonus but I do know a few of those folks.

I just confirmed this. My understanding is that the lower price will be only for Cakewalk user crossgrades, not any other DAW. FWIW although PreSonus and Cakewalk were "competitors," software development in a tiny, demanding, and declining market is not easy. Both companies had (have) a lot of respect for each other. There's a "we're all in this together" mentality among the developers I know in this industry.

I'd definitely be interested in that. It's seems the only viable alternative for me for much of my audio multi-track based work. Super bummed Cubase doesn't have ARA as I rely on it for Melodyne and Vocalign.

So upgrades for WHO? What "last version" of sonar platinum will be covered? Only current "lifetime" subscribers? Up to date version? Mine is 2/7/2016 "owned". Is that "too old"???? I know it's early - but with the CURRENT <$200 pricing thru Nov 27, the danger is waiting til next week and being left high and dry.

I love Sonar Plat. Moving over to another is not necessary for me. I can create music forever with what I have. That said, my only concern is that I have a way to re-authorize my purchased product if my computer dies in the future and I need to do a re-install. I have hundreds of projects, many of which I want to re-visit and finish. Hoping Gibson addresses that issue. The Presonus Offer sounds really good, and actually am very grateful they are extending a hand for our business. If it is sweet enough I may jump. Also - I want to say that I really, really, appreciate getting to know some of you (Craig A. and others), and hope to find you again so I can tune in to your successes. You have been a driving factor in the development of this product, and should be very proud. Said it before.....this software and what it enables is one of THE best things in life. Best of success to you all! with regards, Jim

Seems Studio One is favoured on this forum. Maybe with a big influx of Sonar, some of it benefits will be adopted over time, it seems they have a fair few similarities as it stands. And the extra income will allow greater development. I'm happy to continue with Sonar until it's not functioning, I still have a long way to go with this program. I had 8.5, and didn't pick up X until 3 (I think, Maybe 2, but 1 was missed), so I feel no urgency, and this is much better that 8.5. I don't want anther pay monthly program, so hopefuly Studio One doesn't adopt that. I think in all likelihood, I'll be waiting for their next major version.

There already is a cross grade path (temporarily down) for all DAWs, the Sonar exclusive is a goodwill gesture to Sonar users looking for a new DAW. Nice effort in my opinion...

Sacalait I don't work for Presonus but I do know a few of those folks. Nice. I downloaded a trial version after watching some Youtube videos. Automation seemed rather mysterious compared to SPlat, if I remember right, and I didn't like the gui all that much, but I could find my way around well enough. For pro's like you, the StudioLive integration must be appealing too.

That's a nice gesture on their part, and I will more heavily consider Studio One for that reason. I've spent a grand total of 10 min in the demo last night and it looks reasonably easy to learn. I really liked how SONAR handled take lanes/comping...hoping the replacement (when needed) is robust for that functionality. So, yes...Studio One is my front runner. Price is right, I'll buy it either way.

I also had the demo down and installed last night - had a play and got most things working. It's not as deep as Sonar, not even close. I was baffled as to my I couldn't set it up to slave to midi machine code (I run a hardware sequencer as a master) but turns out it just doesn't work like that. Groan. Sonar was so flexible in this regard, now I'm stumped and looking at Reaper - that's one that seems deep and mature like Sonar, has a passionate user base and frequent development.

Studio One is already $200 here in the States for Thanksgiving. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave that as a cross grade price in the meanwhile for SONAR, which is lower than their regular cross grade price. I imagine I'll carry on with SONAR for the meanwhile - I'm sure next year Studio One and every other DAW will be similarly priced and I'm trying to figure out Maschine Jam. I'm too old to figure out too much new software at a time. I hope nothing breaks before next year w/ SONAR - it shouldn't. I'm already running it on win 10 and win 7. But Studio One does sound interesting. I'm not really a power user but use mostly softsynth>audio with a few tracks of vocals and guitars. I only do a little "band" recording that needs some of the esoteric editing features. For me, Melodyne ain't a tool, it is an effect. I'll fix a note or two but not a performance, that is the singer's job. Maybe Studio One is a fit for me?

vladasyn Cubase would not support Melodyne? Is there VST or some other way to use Melodyne in Cubase?
Yes, the same way we used Melodyne under SONAR, pre-ARA. It was pretty clunky and prone to weirdness, such as Melodyne getting out of sync with SONAR. You had to chop a vocal up into small bits and make sure it didn't encompass any tempo changes. Then cross your fingers. From folks I've talked to, Cubase users tend to be Antares users. Speaking of Cubase, I spoke with a fellow forum user tonight who jumped on Cubase without hesitation. He seemed confident that he'd made a good choice. I've asked him to keep me apprised of his progress. His big milestone today was that he managed to scan his VSTs.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff
