Guess so - the first part was a bug definitely (erratic automation recording). That does appear to be fixed. The second part was a combination of ghosted data not being clearly visible (which does still need sorting) and needing 2 extra steps in different parts of the interface to show automation envelopes that in previous versions (and other hosts) require none.

If you're referring to seeing envelopes you can access the edit filter from the HUD (press T or Middle mouse button) and select envelopes from there. I for one am glad that I can't go moving the clip accidentally or editing more than one clip at a time, stops me doing one by mistake - which with lots of automation on a track is very easily done. I would however like to see a tool tip pop up on mouse over the ghosted envelopes. Then the shift+click to activate an envelope would be really useful.

tbh that's why I do put them in the audio track - I don't want them in the way of the midi - would much prefer envelope lanes like in reaper and Podium myself

Still no fix for this?
CWBRN-5319
Automation recording is broken Description:
  1. Insert softsynth
  2. Arm track
  3. Arm automation write for plugin
  4. Hit record
  5. Play synth - tweak some knobs
Expected Results: As well as midi notes this should record at least one (depending on how many knobs tweaked) automation envelope. I generally set it to appear in the audio lane to keep it out of the way of the midi. Actual Results: No automation is being recorded If I then select "undo" and re-record the track automation is recorded (as evidenced by it playing back this time when I select "read") BUT the automation envelope is invisible and I can find no way to make it visible (yes show ghost data is selected) or to edit it further Every time I try and record automation the first time it isn't recorded at all - then when it is recorded it is invisible Provided Specs:   Audio 1: - - Integrated /On-board Audio - - Audio 2: NI Kore Driver Mode: ASIO Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit Reproducibility: Reproducible
That is shocking - they have had this for months

This is fixed in X1c.

Hi Seth

I have installed the patch now - it is only partly fixed. It records automation (sort of) first time now but it is still invisible and although it plays back it can't be edited and doesn't even appear in the plugin automation list. This is ridiculous! Here is a capture - I have just recorded automation (automation write set in plugin) using Alchemy's morph grid so there should be 2 envelopes (for the X and Y param) but there is nothing visible. I have automation set to appear in the audio track and when I mouse over the audio track where it should be the cursor changes to an automation edit cursor but as you can see nothing is showing to edit and nothing in the plugin automation list to highlight either

Hello Muse,

I just tried this with split MIDI and Audio tracks for the synth (I used Rapture since I don't have Alchemy) and the automation was written to the MIDI track. I see in your pic that your MIDI track is in PRV mode. Try changing it to Clips and see if the automation is there.

In the future you can assign which track the automation gets written on by a selection menu at the bottom of the Insert Soft Synths Options Menu, which is accessible form the Synth Rack. Or, after the fact, you can change which track the automation lives on from the Synth Rack.

Check out the Go Deeper - Browser video for more on this if you can't figure it out. Somewhere in that video I explain how to do this (towards the end, IIRC) ... www.cakewalk.com/caketv

Hi seth thanks

it seems though it needs a bit more than just setti8ng the edit filter to clips. I did try that one. If I am in 2 track mode I do set it in advance to write automation to the audio track rather than the midi track but even with both enabled I still do not get to see automation being recorded as I play the synth. However I have now found that afterwards there is a way to make it visible by then going to the automation menu in the plugin panel of the browser and selecting the track where automation is written to and then going back into the edit filter where previously the automation was not showing and selecting the envelope (although it would be good to be able to show them all at once). That is over complicated I think - it really should just show without having to have all this clicking around and multiple options.

See that's what still gets me - why is the automation data that is clearly there in the audio track invisible? When my mouse clicks around in the black space you can see it changing the position of the plugin params and yet you can't see or edit anything and it doesn't even show up in the edit filter till I go into the automation menu and select that track and then into the dit filter (again) to select the individual envelopes - I just don't see why it needs that extra couple of steps when in the instrument track version it doesn't or why it is invisible in the first place for that matter?

Yeah, this could be made a bit simpler, I agree. I can't think of a good reason for the data ever being invisible, really. But if you need that option, it would be beter as a big obvious global Show / Hide Automation button somewhere.
