The ability to add streamers and strobes for scoring to picture.

I'd like to see fewer virtual instruments and more colors.
 
I'd like less stability but more colors.
 
I'd like to drop the midi capability and notation but add lots of colors.
 
We really don't need audio recording and editing as long as we can make it look nice.

when referring to grouping, colors are everything.
im not sure how you group but I use color grouping.
if I was allowed to change all my drum faders to blue, all my vocal faders to red and so on and so on.
I would be able to see my groups a lot better and faster than looking for that tiny little dot they have now.
 
hand and eye, quick reactions, makes a faster work flow.
not to mention changes the environment.
 
after sitting at a desk for 10 hours changing a few colors can refresh an engineer.
 
comping tracks on a dark waveform on a black background is very difficult.

What i want, is only notation editor. But not only for notate, but 100% connection between midi notes (pianoroll). If you know Overture 4 notation program, you know what i am writing about. That means:
- If i create dynamics, it change midi velocity or something else if i add it, for example modwheel.
- Slurs add more length for notes and make possible change value of length notes (this change notes in pianoroll).
- articulation playback - staccato make half length notes, etc...
- clef change in staff (i mean - if you have bass clef and in some position in staff you change bass clef for tenor clef for example)
- 8va, 8bv signs - and make it playable
etc...
 
if you add completly notation like Overture 4, it would be nice compensation for long inactive staff view upgrades.

Endless complaining

A couple of annoying things for me:
 
I would like all folder tracks to be narrow by default. Once I start track zooming, the folders are left out of the party for making them narrow - forcing a manual resize.
 
Tracks should be searchable. In use fx should be searchable.  - I would like a project navigation and track details window to quickly navigate to a track/group/buss/fx. I think some other daws have something like that - it looks useful. 
 
Really dislike the right click/popup fx window from yesteryear. The browser's look and mode of operation spoiled me. On that note, I would like to rearrange and edit the order/names of fx within the browser - not have to go to the plugin manager.
 
On the plugin manager note - I want it searchable both on the staging side and customized view side. When building these views form scratch, I can forget if I've placed the plug in my browser or not. Just a little indicator would be nice.
 
I would like a hot key to bring a floating popup of any channel strip I would like to tweak regardless of the window I'm working in. For instance being able to hit control/something? to bring the master fader in front would be helpful at times.
 
Effects management - I may just want to turn off all occurrences of a particular plugin for a while and easily turn them back on. Now we have to bypass all bins of this type or individually bypass. When I'm at the stage of rough mixing and maybe needing to add another recorded track, sometimes I need certain cpu hungry plugs off, while others can be left on and not effect latency.
 

*ability to clone the control/toolbar so that i can have it on the top of both of my monitors 
*paste special button
*ability to show the MIDI in the PRV of a selected take lane (not all take lanes at once)
*get rid of the feature that randomly changes my "snap to" value
*since Rapture is now part of Sonar, if i choose a preset & the multisample can't be found, let me find it manually or something (and then force Rapture to "remember" it)

I would like to see a text window that could be place in the multidock for keeping general notes about the mix, arrangement etc. I currently use Notepad but of course as soon as you click within Sonar, it disappears underneath.

I would also like to see customizable labels for automation lanes. Presently, only a few characters are visible in the drop down parameter selector, and when you're automating a lot of parameters whose names all start with the same few characters, you cannot identify them at a glance without hovering your mouse over it and reading the tooltip.

I dont care. I write what i wish in X3. No notation upgrade in X3 no reason to upgrade for me.

I have never had a program in my life crash so badly, so often that you are forced to shut down and reboot the computer if you wish to continue. After a bad crash, usually unexpectedly, most times it is impossible to kill Sonar in the task manager, it will refuse to close and the only way to kill it is to shut down the whole computer and reboot.

maybe try notepad++ with its "always on top" setting?

Hmm that's a good idea! I have Notepad++ but didn't know it had such a setting.

Hmm that's a good idea! I have Notepad++ but didn't know it had such a setting. 

Can you not use the project Notes section of Sonar? I don't think it's dockable but maybe it can be toggled. I did not play around with it that much.

I could not work out how that window works. When you fire it up it fills the whole screen. But when you hit the "restore down" button, the notes window is made smaller but so is your track view. And of course if you then maximize the track view then the notes window disappears underneath it. Plus as you say, it cannot be docked. In fact it cannot even be moved onto a second screen. It sucks! Tried it once and gave up on it. Ideally I would like something that can be docked in the multidock.
