Hi, Bob.  This is an old thread that for some odd reason has had the title changed from X2 to X3.

He was referring to the X2 pre-release video.

Nope.

This fred was titled X3 from the get go.

Yeah the video was from X2, but NOT this fred title.

I created this fred right after the release of X2 because I was sure there were a few "missed" things in X2.

are you sure bap's ?
I think JB is correct on this.

the date on the first post says aug.22, 2012
sonar x2 wasn't even released yet.
x3 ?? not even thought of im guessing.

I thought he was referring to the pre x2 release myself.

As far as I know that's not a Sonar issue - hanging notes in Razor has been reported in other DAW's too. Wasn't it addressed with an update? I could be wrong.

I'd like Sonar X3 had a good score editor. Today working with the current editor which is almost the same as for many years

My request is to be able to save presets in: process/apply effect/fade/envelope, so I can save a 'scooped' fade to use on vocal breaths. (Something like a 'U' shape)

I'm not sure if many of you have noticed, but there is a survey in your store accounts in the download section. I'm not sure if everyone got it or just selective few, but It was in mine and I filled it out. Seems Cake is interested in what exactly we want... though they would probably have a good idea if they ever bothered to read these forums. :P

There is a deal running that expires tonight at midnight, by Finale.  They are offering an upgrade from their Notepad program (which is free), to Finale (their flagship notation program), for $99.

They have run this before, and I had posted it then, and several folks DID get the upgrade, which did install and made them very happy.

Here is the link to that prior thread:

http://forum.cakewalk.com/To-all-Finale-on-sale-for-99-OT-NOTE-Updated-with-additional-information-m2828163.aspx

Scroll down through it and you will see that at least a couple of folks got it and installed it.

So, you need to download and install Notepad, which is free, to be able to install the $99 Finale.  Here is the link to the Finale site, and from there click on the Downloads tab, then enter Notepad 2012 Windows into the appropriate places on the Search screen and click Search.  You will have to register for a free account with Finale, but then you can download Notepad for free:

http://www.finalemusic.com/

To BUY Finale at the $99 upgrade price, here is the link from the email I received from them on it, and it already adds in the required promo code and gives you the discount (the promo code is FINALE62:

I hope they simplify snap- so that there is one state that works over the whole prgram and it can be truned on and off by either gui button or keyboard shortcut. The current adaptive snap that seems to change by itself is so far beyond my intellectual capability that I have no chance of understanding it over the course of my expected lifespan.

I can confirm that the Finale promo code that Bob mentioned above works - but you don't have to do it as an upgrade from Notepad. All you have to do is put the full retail version of Finale in your shopping cart and enter the promo code (FINALE62) in the code box.  $100 plus tax. That's a no-brainer considering it's $600 full retail.

OMG YOU ONLY HAVE LIKE ONE HOUR TEN MINUTES TO GET IT!

Sonar X3 wish list...

Well, just don't suck. Pretty simple. If I have to spell out all the shortcomings for some dev team then it already does. Oh well.......

:)

Finale to replace notation says it all. Oh I know it's resources. What ever.

Another for instance, as close as Cake is to Microcrap, why does the cursor have to change between insert and pointer icon continuously making it a game to get into a text box. And on and on...is it that hard?

2011 = newb?

Looking for a reason to upgrade. Bet my machine can do everything yours does with out crashing.

Talk to the hand! PLEASE :)

Oh, and hover the mouse over track name. Has that improved? Seriously curious.

Also, I have Windows 7. I'm not an idiot. Just no Sonar on it.

For "A" the freeze function will create a wav that you can drag to the media browser or any windows folder.

This was implemented a while ago I believe in X1. Dragging audio out of SONAR or to the media browser will export the audio to that location.

Re: SONAR X3 Wishlist 2013/10/10 14:03:01 (permalink)
My apologies in advance if this capability already exists:

I have Sonar 8.5.  I and many others have been asking for this feature since Sonar 4 when I got on board.  I swore I would not upgrade again until one could do the following:

PRESS A KEY ON YOUR MIDI KEYBOARD AND HAVE A SOFTSYNTH RECORD AUDIO!!!!!  This has been an absolute showstopper for me for years and years.  I have projects waiting in the wings that are literally impossible because of the daunting death of a thousand (actually 10s of 1000s) of mouseclicks that I would be subjected to.  Bouncing and muting and freezing and rendering and moving and comping.  Why is it virtually every DAW on the planet can do this, but somehow this very basic function seems to elude the geniuses at Cakewalk?  It is the height of frustration to see the waveform appear as you play, only to find that it was all a tease.

I just downloaded the latest X3 manual and the 9 count-em 9 steps of instructions to turn your softsynth into audio still begins with "Mute all the tracks you don't want to convert".  Aaagh!  I just want to play some notes, turn some knobs, play more notes, change synths, play some more notes, turn some knobs, etc.  I don't want to prepare some virtual machine with automation that will magically do what I want when I set the Rube Goldberg contraption in motion.  What a buzzkill.  Sonar not only does not enhance my workflow, it impedes it.

I am not interested in workarounds or the usual "what's your problem, just do this" responses.  I have seen them all.  Every solution involves clicking and clicking and clicking.  The only viable (though very disappointing) solution involves using extra physical audio outputs routed back to extra physical audio inputs.  I just want to record a softsynth with the same ease with which I can record a hardware one -- without all the highly distracting extra steps.  Honestly, what's the big deal?  This was literally easier when I had a pile of keyboards and my old 1/2" 16-track tape machine.

You can take out the matrix, step recorder, channel strips, vintage everything, and most of the stuff that was added in the past several years.  I wouldn't care a wit.  I would be giddy with ecstasy if I could just record what I play as I play it.  PLEEEEEEZ daddy.  Don't make me use Reaper.  PLEEEEEEEZ.  (Reaper was only used as an example and not intended to endorse any product or service)

chasmcg,

While in the Track View
"shift" + "F" key and the complete project will size to fit the window.

Simply pressing the "F" key alone will size all tracks vertically.

Don't know if I ever thanked you for this. Thanks.
