- Make AudioSnap easier to use

- Finer grid line settings for manual quantization

- Fix the Clone Last Track In Folder bug. Folders need to be considered first and Track Numbers second, not like it is now.

- Allow user to Drag-Drop track to last position of a Folder, between folders, or into next folder.

- Clean audio folder application needs to be brought up-to-date, respect Audio in Project Folder setting.

- Random oddities that happen in ProChannel need fixing

- More considerate with our screen real estate, like in it was in 8.5

As a general observation, I think Cake should in future try think like a user, not like a programmer.

Features from Cake tend to confront you with things that are important 1% of the time. And 99% of the time you have to work around them to achieve your normal daily work.

Oh, and get a better forum software!

Workflow improvement suggestion:

Add "static variables" in the code which remember what I did last time, until I close Sonar.

For example, if I export something, I start from the default directory and then navigate to my project directory.

When I again export, I have to navigate to that folder all over again.
A static variable could remember where I was last time and not force me to start from the default directory every time.

+1 ^^^^

I absolutely HATE having to do this for each & every Export.

This should be a separate Folder Location along with all the others you can configure

Other than Pro Channel routing (IE allowing any FX in any order other pre or post for whole PC strip) improvements and other bug fixes Id like to see an improved stable v-vocal or maybe even better an integrated Melodyne.

current version add +3dB when export mono files. so solution is mix/master as stereo then export as split mono, then rename the file. and if you export 500 small files as split mono then its hard to rename those 500 files. this should be corrected in future product.

Re:Sonar X2 Wish List 2012/05/01 19:16:55 (permalink)
I think a few of these have been mentioned already, but MY wishes include:

(01) "Friendlier" friendly names for drivers.  There's a whole other thread in the forum about how "another" DAW is doing it better, and I really like that implementation: let us configure the name completely for both mono/stereo pairs (maybe also surround groupings?) and also let us configure how they appear on the input/output menus.  That would save a LOT of clicking and confusion in making those selections, particularly when adding new buses to the project.

(02) Work on the Control Bar customization so you don't need a monolithic display screen to see EVERYTHING at once.  I like the idea of size customization.  I also like the idea of custom CB modules.  Scrolling would be fine, though I think I'd prefer a pagination if that was really the solution they wanted.  I agree with whoever said 8.5 had this concept figured out:  those tool bars were customizable and I had access to all functions with a similar amount of screen space that I use now for less than half.

(03) Speaking of toolbars, I'd like basic program-level functions on the CB again: "New", "Open", "Save", "Close" would be good for me.  "Save As" would be nice as well.

(04) Automation modes.  I'm not optimistic about this, having been hoping for this since version 7.  Right now we have "Read" and the equivalent of "Touch Write" (and "off", I guess).  I'd really love it if there was also a "Latch Write" and "Overwrite" (i.e., "erase last envelope and start a new one") modes.  A "Trim" automation mode would also be handy.  Since I've acquired a Mackie MCU, these functions would really open up the abilities of that unit to improve my workflow.

(05) Speaking of the MCU, I'd also really love it if the Pro Channel modules were ALL accessible using the MCU and/or C4, and NOT just the first PC module in the chain.  There's no more "standalone" EQ OTHER than Pro Channel, and if you don't have Expanded you can't adjust the order of PC modules:  you could use the EQ mode in the MCU/C4 to control Pro Channel functions and scroll through them as well.

(06) Speaking of Pro Channel, I'd also like it if the Pro Channel modules could be put in a floating window:  right now I can't see them all in Inspector, and it's kind of awkward to find them on the Console View.

(07) Speaking of the Inspector, it would be great if that was scrollable.  That way it's less an issue to find a particular parameter of the given channel in Track View.

That looks like a lot but it's mostly usability tweaks.  I like to think those particular features wouldn't be as difficult to implement as some of the other common requests (I'm no expert though): if Cake were to add ONLY that to X2 over X1, I think it'd probably be worth the usual $100 upgrade for me.

* VST3

* Darker Console view overall take the grey off the GUI make it little bit darker..

* Automation "copy and paste" works 100% with Virtual Intruments

* Celemony ARA

* Better Video engine.

* Make console view show more then 2 auxs and fxs bin 3 plugin in the the same time. I would like to see the console view more like PRO TOOLS console view and be able to "set color"-markers of Tracks in console view.

* Make more included PRO CHANNELS modules and better flexible routing.

Outside of the issues I have been having I am fairly happy on X1. They would have to bring a monster upgrade to get me to buy X2 at least right away anyway.

  • PRV: Legato, Delete Doubble Notes Poly and Mono, Turn Pedal into Notelength!!!!!!

And I´m not talking about stupid CAL, build the stuff into the PRV!

  • Better stretch algorhythms like elastique pro

Since ever I have graphics problems like loosing my cursor when doing something in menues etc..

Since I have 3 other DAW´s on my system and none of them have it, I hardly assume it´s a Sonar problem..

And yeah, Videoengine..

I DO NOT,want an X2 yet.

I'm still learning X1[after 12 months],and don't want to have to pony for a whole new daw any time soon,as X1 is working just fine here.

I was among the first to buy X1.
I'll probably go for X2 when X3 is nearly due for release IF X2 brings something significant to the table as well as documented actual real proper fixes for the long standing bugs including overhauls of all the normal Peoducer features like VVocal, Audiosnap etc.

I'm ALL for fixes, and even little[big?] stuff like "narrowing" of the        "grey dividers" between the un-dockable windows[they definitely take up too much space],but paying another $399[EDIT-Iv'e only ever had X1,I forgot that upgrading would be $100-facepalm] for this is not, going to be AT ALL cool,if it's within 6-9 months.

Also a Rick Rubin Pro Channel "preset"for the 2buss/Master,would be cool,ha.

Yes v-vocal is a tad dated,and audio-snap is a little too little,so I do understand.

Dont forget that X1 has been out since December 10th 2010. That's the day i paid the $99 fee to upgrade from SONAR 8.5 to X1.

So even if X2 (or whatever) was released tomorrow that's 18 months since X1 was released which would be a 50% longer development cycle than we're used to with SONAR. Though SONAR 8 to 8.5 was about 15 months.

If it comes by the end of this year then that's 2 years.

I can imagine that it's kind of hard to work on an X2 with X1A, X1B, X1C, X1Expanded, X1D.

If you think about it, Sonar has already come a long way to support film scoring; it would be odd to bring it this far and then just stop working on refinements.

Surround capability, video, and yes even staff editing have been core features for a very long time, and its hard to understand the concern that sonar might become a mediocre jack of all trades by continuing to enhance/refine these features.

Also, merely having the capabilities available doesn't really pose measurable threat to performance; there may be minor processes running in the background because the features are there, but when you aren't using the features the processes aren't really costing any performance. If they are running at all, they will be orders of magnitude down on the CPU food chain until you actually load and run a video or something.

Try Alt + drag

Finer grid line settings for manual quantization

Grid resolution already goes down to 64th notes - how fine do you want it?

sizable: fx bin, send list, pro channel

Agree!

remove IN/OUT title row:  "A waste of skin."  the drop-downs have I and O labels.

Not really sure what you mean by this, but most of the console modules can be shown/hidden under "Modules"

The header row  IN / OUT  is at least a 1/4 inch of wasted space.  The selection boxes have I and O on them, to remind me if I forget what they are for.  Don't need the header

Mark D.

4) More multi-track function changes. I'll elaborate. Click the corner to change volume on all tracks, panning, etc. now. I'd
like to see things like adding a send (to the reverb bus, etc) added to that. If you have a lot of tracks that would save time.

i just saw this topic and don't have the time to read all replies.. but.. i don't understand this.. is this something you want for X2?

selecting several tracks and adding an aux-send (or making ANY change) to one of the tracks while holding ctrl makes the same change for all the selected tracks in X1 already.. .. or did i misunderstand what you're wishing for?

Fix all the Output selectors, Make them just like the input selectors:

Place a checkmark in the little box to the left of the name of the output

This has be broken FOREVER.

In the beginning it was WAY stupidly clever: the selected output was removed from the list.

And in version 4 an update disabled the pop-up balloons.

Consistency is my desire.

1 - Please, re-include every option and tool within the staff view, some of us love to work with the staff view.
2 - if noticed that in many cases the audio snap is not that precise when you are using it as a audio to midi function to achieve a trigger for drums.
it would be great if you check that out, the threshold fader is not that precise.
3... i guess that's it.. the software is great!
