I don't have a vast amount of VST's (see post further up the page). Are any of these known to cause issues?

BTW, I should add - it's incumbent upon the user to keep their software up to date.   99% of all plugins have updates, many of which fix problems (as has been stated often on this forum).

It's a never ending battle for truth, justice and the ....   oh wait, that's from some old TV show LOL

But the point is -- we need to stay on top of these things if we use plugins regularly ... and have problems, we simply have to keep them udpated when appropriate.

To the best of my knowledge I have them all up to date apart from Synthmaster which is currently undergoing lots of updates during its development.

I've seen numerous posts on the forums where people have had issues with plugins. I don't think I've ever seen an issue that causes major repeatable crashes from plugins that were purchased, but it could happen. mostly it's from the free ones, tho, there are definitely free plugins which could cause crashes in sonar!

Beagle,

I actually have a few plugins (not free ons, btw) that can cause Sonar to crash on demand.  I've contacted the vendors - but in these cases, the vendors seem uninterested in fixing the problem.  So it does happen.

yep - I don't doubt it.  it would be difficult not to run across this situation at some point even with well written code.

I will check ASIO4all, it may be installed. I am using the M-Audio drivers though.

Do I need to install 8.5.1? I might just do them all anyway since I have found I have all the files from last time.

I have found that even though Cake says you can install the most current patch over the initial install it is best to apply each in order. It does not take much extra time. Sometimes Cake does not pay close attention to the installers for the patches and if they are not installed in order you will not get all the proper fixes.

I didn't take any shortcuts, just did all the updates in sequence.

If ASIO4ALL is installed, it will say ASIO4ALL in the driver that's selected for your INPUT.  for example it would say something similar to:  M-audio ASIO4ALL 1/2 R

you don't have to select it as your driver, however, if ASIO native drivers are available.  so if you have the native ASIO drivers selected it will be similar to above but without "ASIO" in the driver description.  and as long as it's not selected anywhere (even in the PLAYBACK and RECORDING DEVICES) then you don't have anything to worry about from it being there.  but if you don't need it (which you don't) then it doesn't hurt to uninstall it either to prevent you from ever having it selected.

I uninstalled the asio4all drivers following the suggestion before. It is the M-Audion drivers I am using, and was previously too.

Re:Sonar crashes yet again - Time to drop it October 18, 10 0:06 PM (permalink)
Ok, just a quick update 3 weeks on from my last problems with the crashing on start up.

Having removed Comodo and Spybot, I have not had any problems at all with Sonar having used it around 10 times since (which is more than I usually get to use it in that time period).

So it appears to me that it was not hardware/driver related but security software that was causing the problems.

Thanks for the suggestions, especially the Comodo tip off!

Wait a minute!  Hold on a second...

Doesn't this latest development mean that Sonar doesn't completely suck and can be used very productively for music creation, production and distribution?!

Where are all the HATERS now?!

LOL

Microsoft Surface Book w/ Surface dock, dual 24-inch HD displays,
Sonar Platinum, THD 4, GuitarRig, Amplitube, (Kontakt4), Garritan PO, Trillian Bass 1.3,  Roland Octa-Capture, Waves Gold & various Waves, PSP and T-Racks plugins.

KRK Rokit6, Lefty Guitars & Bass, racks/pedals galore and many other fun things.
