TH2? OMG!
I Dl'ed and tried the demo and its gonna cost me now. I know there are many here who don't play electric guitar, so nothing to see here. But for those that do play guitar, this is IMO (<<<) the best sounding software amp/fx for guitar (I have heard so far) out there today. Organic like syrupy tones are produced that rival my Tonelab desktop, and distortions that equal my Nova System boxes. Put a smile on my ugly mug- You could say the demo impressed me.

Every where I look on the net people are FREAKING about how good it is but I've checked out some vids of it in use and it just... doesn't sound that great to me. But it is obviously very difficult to tell without actually using stuff like this. I am looking forward to playing with it. I was hoping they would let us download the lite version early but I guess it's too ingrained in the X2 install or something. IDK... I'm pretty happy with GR5 but considering my main instrument is guitar I like have as many tools around as possible. If I get some time maybe I'll try out the demo.

Oh, one question I have, Mikey... does the demo allow you to use it as a plug? I saw somewhere the only thing the demo doesn't do is save presets but that seems like it would be a bad move on their part seeing as how a dude like me could just dial it in everytime and not have to pay for the full version.

Yea the save is disabled, and I used it stand alone only. It also has a quiet but harsh sounding tone and a silence for a 1/2 sec every little bit. So no dice in using it for recording in demo mode. But I zoned that out whiles messing around. I loved the fact that I could go from nothing to a nice sound in just a few clicks. Not just nice, but tone wise like it was from a guitar amp. BTW- I just ordered the full version, so I will be practicing on what I preach

Ah, that makes more sense. That's actually a pretty smart way of them to do it. Definitely looking forward to playing around with it but maybe I'll just wait until I have X2 in my hands. I'll probably end up using TH2 in combination with GR5. Like use the TH2 amps and then GR for the effects... or something. Cheers.

Beepster: This is not an endorsement of the product (I have not used it myself) but I bet you buy the full version before the end of year

I too am very impressed with TH2. I very much liked how simple it is to use I was up and running with great sounds right after installation. No steep learning curve. Dan

@scook... lol. IDK, man. I'm pretty tapped out. Once I move the spending spree will be stopped dead. That's why I'm trying to get most of this done now. If it's going to "change everything" then $100 isn't bad but if it's only slightly better than GR or I can get the tones I need out of it as is I'll probably let it sit. But maybe they'll have some crazy deal down the line that'll put it in No Brainer territory. It's hard to tell from all the descriptions (most seem to refer to the full version) but it SEEMS like the Sonar version has quite a bit included anyway. I'll just have to wait and see.

I'm still waiting on a demo link. How does it compare to Scuffham - S-Gear?

Just so everyone knows, as a SONAR X2 customer, you are entitled to a special upgrade price on Overloud TH2 full version. http://www.store.cakewalk...sp?sku=30-ODTH2.00-20E You can either order it with your SONAR X2 upgrade or buy it after your SONAR X2 purchase. It's $100 off the regular price for SONAR X2 Producer customers.

The demo "link" is at overloud.com I've just played with the download for 5 minutes, IMHO not a lot extra there for "real" guitar players over Guitar Rig 5, but for a hack like myself it's an improvement, great layout, and I love the presets, much easier for me to find what I want. Glad I bought it

@stevec... I thought you were gonna jump on the $50 GR upgrade? It really is quite good. I mean it's still not perfect but it's WAY better than anything GR has been in the past. I nailed my metal tone fairly easily, I've got a slick blues/rock lead tone happening... and, well that's about it because I haven't gone too crazy with it yet but with some tweaking it's pretty darned amazing sounding. Like I said I think combining TH2 lite and GR5 might be where it's at. The clean tones on the TH2 vids I heard were better to my ears than GR5 but the distortion and effects sounded kind of squishy squashy. Solution? Use the clean amps in TH2 and cover them in delicious GR5 sauce. ;-)

I was looking at the GR upgrade, but at the time I thought I qualified for the Kotakt upgrade and went for that instead (actually placed the order). Unfortunately I didn't find out that I didn't qualify after all until it was too late. I currently have GR4LE and GR5 Free, so I'm thinking that TH2 may be a nice compliment. Either way, it's X2 first - the version that comes with SONAR should give me a good idea where I'm heading from there...

Pretty impressed with TH2 over here. Purchased it with the X2 upgrade presale. Great sounds unnoticable latency as standalone or plugin (I'm using M-Audio Fasttrack C400 interface at the moment ) and compared to GR5 a lot more user friendly. As you can see in my specs, I switch between interfaces.... just for the benefit of no latency when recording guitars. I will not abandon GR or POD, there both got theire strong areas, but TH2 could become my go-to amp-sim. One funny little bug I found: In plugin mode I was looking for a bass amp model in the TH2 searchfield, typing in "Bass''. Typing in B opened the X1 browser, typing in a opened the Audiosnap Pallet and that's how far it let me type "Bass". ...Funny isn't it ? It looks like the searchfunction is not working in pluginmode. regards, Daniel

For plugins in general there is a button in the upper right of the plugin window that looks like a tiny keyboard. Engaging that button is supposed to "give all keystrokes to plugin". This might fix the symptom you're seeing now, which is what is actually supposed to happen when this button is not engaged: Sonar is receiving and executing its hotkeys.

I have to agree...having used GTR, Amplitube (on ipad etc) and Guitar Rig, I am in fact more impressed with this product than any modeler I have ever encountered...demo'd and it was enough to sell me on the full package... I think the GUI is pedestrian.. homogeneous...ridiculous...but I'm not much of a distraction freak...its the sounds I'm after... with smart tools I will not be needing much else...(except a newer battery for my laptop)... Finally impressed...but maybe thats because I don't really like the messy metal sounds which are all the same to me...this is much more flexible and on a clean guitar it actually sounds rather right. mikey I Dl'ed and tried the demo and its gonna cost me now. I know there are many here who don't play electric guitar, so nothing to see here. I'm using SOnar Platinium on a 6 core Lynx Audio machine and a ton of vintage pre-amps/eq's/comps I build for fun and sometimes money, REDD.47/API/Neve I also use the UAD stuff, and also use a Macbook Logic 9 through Apogee...

Thanks for the hint, ptheisen, but it didn't fix it. Still does the same with "give all keystrokes to plugin - enabeled". I doublechecked and tried a few other plugin's searchboxes and they all behave normal even with "give all keystrokes to plugin - disabled". I'm running all plugins on my secondary monitorscreen, btw. I never had this happening before. Maybe someone who's using TH2 can confirm this issue? (or mayby the bug is not in the plugin, but sits in the chair in front of my computer...)

@Psychobillybob... Yeah, from the vids I've seen I think this is gonna fill the clean to blues tones that GR5 doesn't seem to handle well. I mean I've gotten some "okay" stuff in that department out of GR but it's nothing I'd really want to put on an actual album. I really hope it will fill that gap. As far as the GUI... yes it is quite silly isn't it? lol

I downloaded the demo. I have GR4, S-Gear, Amplitube Free and AcmeBarGi and I think TH2 is pretty good, comparatively speaking. However, it has the same high frequency shrillness to it as the others. Well... AcmeBarGig doesn't have that, but the rest do. Having said that, I will consider getting the full TH2. I need to play with it some more once X2 comes out first. Thanks for the heads up on trying the demo!

I bought the $99 version with X2 pre sale. It sounds great. Does anyone know if the volume/wah pedals are externally controllable real time? The only thing I don't like so far is the HUGE GUI. It's rather long and drawn out so you have to scroll thru it to access the FXs. The upper screen helps zoom in but it's rather small. I'd prefer a somewhere-in-the-middle compromise. I'm also trying out the SpringAge verb demo. Steve

I went ahead a bought the full version and I am impressed with it. I only have Amplitube 3 with some of the custom shop stuff and the Guitar rig that came with Sonar so I don't have much experience with the stuff out there. I tried the full TH2 with the Orange Tree Evolution Strawberry samples and it became a completely different instrument. It can be cool and mellow or it can be a Beast. Like I said I don't have much experience with the amp sims but I really like the TH2. Next test is with some of the Spectrasonics Trilian bass guitar samples... Boom ba da Boom!
Purrrfect Audio DAW here. Wow!...
