I had listened to this one awhile back and just didn't have the time to comment on it. I think this one is another hit! You should write for picture. I am always hooked on a nice harp, even if it's a sampled harp. I love the way you put this one together Dan. Nice work all round'!!

Thanks Tim! I'll admit I was somewhat inspired by your recent string of Celtic songs.

wonderful stuff Dan, and thanks again for the great feedback you gave me.  the only thing that seems to get me on this is mixing wise there seems to be more reverb than I think I would like.  I love the beautiful song a lot.

Dan, sorry it's taken so long to comment. What a beautiful piece of music!

I loved this. Your orchestration is top notch. Incidently, did you do the artwork on this track?

Just curious - have you thought of adding a nylon string guitar to play the melody at some stage? Just a thought but overall a killer piece of music.

Cheers

Peter.

Hey Dan, this is really great!  love it when everything really explodes then drops back and adds an ethereal choir...nice touch.

the only crit I have is that the melody (ex: the one that comes in at 0:08 with the violin) is very similar to an Alan Parsons song (The Gold Bug - the whistle at the beginning and then later with horns)

of course I know it's hard not to sound like something else all the time and the melody isn't 100% exactly the same, just very similar.  it's just an observation.

Thanks for listening and your kind words Peter! No, I find a suitable piece on the 'net and modify it to work as song art. I do it mostly for myself. The artwork is a piece by Denise Worisch on DeviantArt.

And, no, I'd not thought of nylon guitar. With all the harps, I think it might be too much...

Re: The Forest Queen 2016/07/31 08:14:08 (permalink)
I thought the reverb was completely "orchestral hall" appropriate and added to the magical landscape. The introduction of the Eb before going to the C section is a really nice movement. All the instruments sound excellent, have wonderful parts, and suit/add to the mix, which I think is killer.
I have to admit that I got a big kick out of the castanets. LOL I got this wonderful sense of empowerment, that I have the tools/plugs, whatever/etc, to enjoy myself, big time! I can only imagine how pleased you are with it and how much fun it must have been to hear it back, once you got it to this level of development. Well done, you!
The castanets "made me go back and listen, again", to your delightful orchestration choices. So, on the 3rd listen this morning, I found myself thinking my life is just so fun. Thanks for the reminder!
