Really beautiful music, sounds fab here in England. I feel this is one of your best pieces, which says something, as all of your tunes/productions are of the highest order. :)

pentimentosound I thought the reverb was completely "orchestral hall" appropriate and added to the magical landscape. The introduction of the Eb before going to the C section is a really nice movement. All the instruments sound excellent, have wonderful parts, and suit/add to the mix, which I think is killer. I have to admit that I got a big kick out of the castanets. LOL I got this wonderful sense of empowerment, that I have the tools/plugs, whatever/etc, to enjoy myself, big time! I can only imagine how pleased you are with it and how much fun it must have been to hear it back, once you got it to this level of development. Well done, you! The castanets "made me go back and listen, again", to your delightful orchestration choices. So, on the 3rd listen this morning, I found myself thinking my life is just so fun. Thanks for the reminder! Michael
Thanks again Michael! Dan

Dan Not having Komplete, nor Omnisphere (nor a Triton, and JV-2080 for that matter), I wonder what those two contributed to the excellent quality of your instrument patches/sounds. Would you give us a run down of that? That would be very informative, indeed. I am certain a number of us would love to know what you use (besides great skill and talent!)! Michael

Being retired that is the only way I roll! LOL I have only read about all of them, though I don't know if I used to have the GigaStudio harp....maybe I still have that on my old P4 PC. Hmmm. I'll have to crank that one up. LOL I do have GPO5 .. Say, do you recall which reverb/ambience(s) you used? Michael

Well, they certainly sounded superb to me. I haven't upgraded to the full ReMatrix, yet, but am thinking that might be a good idea....! Lexicon? Yup. I the LXP5? half rack and a full rack unit in my ca 2000-2006 studio (Pentimento Sound long gone, alas)and would love to "correct" the fact that they are gone! I do have a few nice ones from PSP and T-Racks, to go with the ones that have been included with Sonar, too. Michael

Whew glad someone brought this back from the archives.... Freaking fantastic, Dan! Nothing I'd touch here. At first I thought maybe the verb might have been a bit much in the beginning, then I thought "if I would have mixed this and used less verb, I would have only been using less because some person would make a stupid 80's comment to me about using verb." Fine as it is! Just curious if you don't mind me asking? With these libraries you use (which I have as well) how much do you find yourself tweaking them eq-wise when you work on something like this? Do you find the majority of the instruments work really well out of the box? In my experience, I sometimes have to make them sound a little smaller or they will suck up the entire stereo field leaving no room for anything else. So I may high pass to the extreme at times. Other times, I have to tame the verb effects/room by using imagers to narrow the sounds a bit. When I do eq, it's due to instruments that share a similar frequency masking each other a bit. Just curious if you've run into any of that and how you've dealt with it. Again, awesome job on this....loved it immensely! My girl and I are on a Game of Thrones kick at the moment....and one of the things we love about that series is the music and how awesome it is throughout. :) -Danny

Thanks Danny! As for EQ'ing these libraries, yes, but only in the context of the song. In other words, if I was doing a pop song and using EWHO, I would have to EQ the crap out of the strings so they don't get in the way. For a song like this, there was a lot less EQ going on than I usually do, simply because the track had less going on than in your typical pop song. If instruments are masking each other in a track like this one, I usually try panning and gentle compression first, then EQ after if needed. Regards, Dan

I have a love of all things celtic...this is blissful to listen to. Love the way it builds and all comes together as the piece progresses. Amazed you did this with virtual instruments, fooled me!
I read above you are forced to leave it alone during week days and that allows you to hear things more objectively as a result. I get that, and I bet it enhances the final result.
