I really don't know why the original posting instigated a back ground check...

Her avatar does bring that into question - was it a background check or a back yard check?

Just sayin'

In the murky depths contained in the distant past of this thread, you'll note Carissa herself brought the gender question up because she signed up with a male name and US email and then appeared on the forum as Carissa from Sweden and wondered why one of the mods deemed to question it.

Strange but true.

Sorry to cloud up a perfectly good story with the facts.

Yes, I remember Carissa said that... I'm just was saying that if I had a daughter, I'd teach her to do a similar thing.

best regards,
mike

Re:The demeanor here, and its consequences 2011/04/03 22:21:29 (permalink)
So, I pop in to see what's been going down, and uh...well.... w.o.w.

First off, I read the whole thing (Heaven Help Me, I DID) and have found myself continuously waffling between agreeing and disagreeing with the OP depending upon which reply I was currently reading (did I mention that I read them all?  Even the ones in Wook-ish?  Yeah, ok.  So I skimmed those.  You saw right through me).

This tells me a few things.  While it is true that there are some rather nasty goings on upstairs, the fact of the matter is that there are also some lovely, lovely people down here snorting coffee, and that I value their opinions very much.  So, when Jonbouy (not your REAL name?  Really?  Hang it all, man!  I'm so disappointed.  HA!), disagrees, I find myself siding with him, because I KNOW he's a good sort, etc, etc, etc and Craig in all of his Craigness plays a brilliant game of "Turnabout" with his post, then I'm think, hmmm… the OP is wrong and being rude, blah, blah, blah.

But I do sort of agree with some of it.

And then we come to the bit where we find out that the OP is registered under a male name, and in Ohio, not Sweden... and to this, all I can say is WHY IS IT that Brandon didn't think ME worthy of such inquiry?

And my feelings are a little hurt.

I am also from Ohio.  Although I probably registered in California.   So we have that in common.

But I digress.

I really don't give a hoot whither Frank or Carissa.  Just as I didn't care if it was just Jessie or Jessie Sammler.  And, honestly, I still miss him/her.

But I'm a girl.  And didn't initially have any inclinations to propose marriage, though I suppose I'd feel a little slighted if I were male and I had.

I should also say that I've become friends with quite a few Swedes via the "glowbox" that connects us these days.  And they are all quite well spoken and speak English beautifully.  Better than most of my High School friends on Facebook.  So, the language issue is not something that will resolve the looming question.  Especially if she/he IS Swedish and living in Ohio.  The real question is.... Why on earth would anyone CHOOSE to live in Ohio???? :D

And she'd do it again, too.  Especially after the Bapu was such the gentleman/brother to walk her to her car in the scary parking garage.  He's a gem, he is.

Oooh! I've missed you boys.... Hi, ya' Russell!  Hi,  ya' Mike!  And Hi, ya' to everyone else who hasn't yet mentioned it, but probably once they've woken up and had their tea.  Cheers!

Hi Jules, it's good to see you back.  And, speaking of Swedes, how's your friend Tomas?  I don't recall seeing a 'final' version of 'Higher' and was wondering if you knew what was doing with it.  Loved that tune.

Meanwhile, I see you discovered the 'thread that devoured Cleveland,' and MAH GOWD... but you read the entire thing????  Wow.  Perhaps the most remarkable thing about the thread is that despite multiple efforts at derailment, it seems to keep getting back on track.  And we DO have some of the best derailers around here.

Hey, Julie.  Good to hear from you again.  Sorry it took a Category 5 thread to pull you in.

Word is that this thread will leave the Dayton area uninhabitable for decades.  So, nothing much has really changed around here.

By the way, I wouldn't be too offended by not receiving matrimonial offers earlier.  If I remember correctly, Bapu and Mooch have both denied receiving such offers themselves.

mooch didn't even bother sending me a note about the roses I sent on Valentines day.

I think he might have re-gifted them to Lew.

Who then sent them on to the Bybees?

We once had a fruitcake named Vlad the Impaler.  I don't know how old that thing was.  No matter how many times we thought we had gotten rid of it, it just kept coming back.  It had it's own room in the basement.  It liked it dark.  For that reason, we kept it covered in pine box with a very artistic stick figure drawing on the lid.  It made it look cheery.

One year, I was demonstrating my juggling ability to Vlad by juggling sharpened wooden stakes.  Sadly, one of them slipped out of my hand and plunged right into Vlad's art work.  We're not really sure what happened, but we couldn't find anything but ashes after the smoke cleared.

On the positive side, Renfield stopped hanging around the house.  Since then, I've never juggled again.  Granted, I've jiggled more than my share, but that's another story.
