I sometimes wonder how many actual programmers (and yes I include Noel in on this, even though he's the CTO, IIRC) and QA people there are.
Probably doesn't really matter but if every poster of a "request/bug/problem" knew that there was a rather small pool of programmer vs. 100 programmers would they be more sensitive the list of known "bugs"?
I posit this because I assume it is a small pool of programmers and therefore even though I think my biggest aggravation/frustration/distaste is drum maps... I can see that they simply would not be higher priority than a hover car for the next release.
You mean all CW staff do all day is hang around a swimming pool? How do any bugs get fixed in that case?

No one "owns" anything.
Even cars, refrigerators, land,... We have purchased the temporary "right" to use the item, in some cases, maintain the item, and dispose of the item.
We can not replicate the item.
We cannot take it with us when we leave this planet.
Pass it on to descendants? Are you sure anyone will exist after you do not?

I do think the CW dudes should provide for license transfer. Charge $25 to transfer. Apply upgrade status as is already recorded in the user database, and acquire a new user with profit, instead of paying advertising costs in the attempt to persuade potential users to buy the newest product. Everybody wins. No downside at all.

(sort of off-topic, but related to better serving a smaller group of developers, if that may be the case): I vote for a Bug board. A forum board strictly for licensed users to work directly with Support or Engineers/Developers where they can chime in to ask subsequent investigative questions. A board where rules against griping are STRICTLY enforced, and only calm, collected, and helpful people may speak or report issues/oddities. This is a HUGE can of worms, but I see a big gap in the level of communication in the general Sonar forum and the lack of communication in the Bug Submission Tool. There's literally no incentive to report bugs with that level of detail expected, but almost no (or extremely delayed) feedback. I've used the bug submission tool in the past, but there's absolutely no way of knowing of any submissions I send in are even being read, much less with enough accurate content to illustrate the possible bug.
Reporting something weird that happened once or twice in a bug tool isn't conducive to checking the issue. The reason is, the only people able to read the submissions are Cakewalk people. Other users can't read submissions and either offer additional info, or confirm if they have seen the same issue before, either. There's literally NO incentive for both users to submit a duplicate bug report.
Finally, if specific Bug Tracking CW people are on the board, they can offer advice or helpful things to do in an effort to make a bug submission interface much more easily with Cakewalk developers, vs. trial and error as it is now. In other words, bug submission coaching or inquisitiveness before a report is really made (internally).

Yea, a long tread of this exists over there.
The thing is; Its all about X4.
If Cakewalk doesn't release the upgrade in the dawn of 2014, can they still call it X4 in 2015 (providing something comes out next year).
See, Cakewalk has been numbering releases with the corresponding year.
Then they went to 8 to 8.5; Then bang, in 2010 they came out with 'X'
The X series came out with a new look with Pro Channel-n-stuff.
Is there a "change" coming?
