Theme Editor is Live in the Command Center
(What it says on the tin.)
A deep chesty bawl echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain, and fades into the far blackness of the night. It is an outburst of wild defiant sorrow, and of contempt for all the adversities of the world. - Aldo Leopold

The first thing i did with it was make the punch active button in the control bar super-bright red when enabled. This will hopefully avoid those situations where the punch markers are way down on the timeline so I don't see them, I miss seeing that punch is enabled, and then I think "Why is SONAR not able to record?" I can't miss that bright red button now.

Excellent! Good tip there, Craig! The first thing I did was similar - in the compact transport bar, unlike in the full sized one, there's no visual indicator on the record button as to which record mode you're in; all of the button graphics are the same. I've changed those to match their full sized counterparts. It would be a huge amount of work to completely write a theme from scratch, but just having the ability to go in and tweak controls is a killer way to improve your workflow.

Jim Lima [Cakewalk] Please note that the Theme Editor is currently being made available so those that wish to participate in the Early Access program can install it at this time if they wish. See the following link to learn more about this month's Early Access release: http://forum.cakewalk.com/The-Early-Access-Program-is-Now-Live-for-the-Upcoming-Release-of-SONAR-201607-m3450399.aspx Jim
I'm not enrolled in the Early Access but I opened Command Center, it had 'an update was available' so I selected it. The new Command Center was updated / installed along with the Editor exe on my desktop. I didn't rollback anything. Is this just a hiccup or a new way early access updates get installed?

There is no enrollment necessary to participate in the Early Access Program. Since the Theme Editor is a new, there is no rollback required to install it. To get the EAP version of SONAR and LP plug-ins does require using rollback.

Thankfully there is a help file built in to the editor. I've never done much this kind of work and it will be a bit of a learning curve. It's not at all what I expected as it's all done outside of Sonar. Thanks to the Cakewalk folks for giving this one as a freebee. Since it runs by itself this could have been a paid add-on. I'm eager to see what is developed by those that have criticized the GUI while saying that they were graphics designers. Time for the rubber to hit the road.

Interesting... It is setup a little like Panup's editor...? I'm a little lost finding objects, but I'm sure I'll get a handle on it as I go... I've only tinkered with skin editing a little in the past and honestly, I'm quite comfortable with Tungsten (Though I miss the more obvious track colorings of Mercury)... I saw someone's post that had an edited image in which the track area (background?) was outlined in the color that was assigned to the track... I'd Love to do that, but I'm not sure if it can be done as the colors are user assigned...? I'll continue to browse around in it and see what I come up with... Nice to have it a part of Sonar. I had done some tinkering using Panup's program, but constantly needing to revert to authorized/factory versions of Sonar (it edited the Sonar executable directly I believe) I eventually dropped it.... Then Mercury happened and it was so much fun and nice to work with that I simply kept on using it until Tungsten was given to us.... In most respects it's almost perfect for me so I don't forsee a lot of editing need for myself, but it's very cool... ...and if people start sharing skins? Who knows what we might find? ;-) Thanks Bakers!

Yes, user themes may be shared. Any image editor capable of saving images with transparent backgrounds will work.
