Bashing one product to promote another is for me the worst thing a instructive video should do. It smacks of Apple which always turned me off in ways that caused resentment towards Apple from me. To do it to your own product seems doubly troubling. I didn't watch the whole thing because I found it silly. Also to me much was setup to be hard when it isn't if you really know Sonar. That part caused me to comment under my breath "why did you do it that way".  In fact because it was so biased I found I was routing for X3. This made me stop watching. yes you showed how "nice" the new button is but I may never use it because it seemed meant for those that can't be bothered with learning the program. Its sort the "less than smart button".  (Those were not the words or word I really wanted to use.)

The other comments above that noticed this were a bit more forgiving but you guys are the "experts". Pretending you're not isn't helpful for your credibility.

I hate giving this sort of review for work done by two very nice people. They developed an idea and executed it to the best of their ability. It is well done from that perspective. Its just so inappropriate of a company that has always exhibited pride in all their products.

I didn't really understand the meaning of this video.
Is this a showcase about how fast Platinum is, or how slow X3?
When I do some track insert comparisons with other DAW's then I come to the conclusion that, X3 is slow on that and Platinum reached the level of others.
For example, inserting 100 audio tracks to Studio-One 3.2 is on my PC about 1.5-times faster as with Platinum. So that demonstration of track insert isn't really that Platinum features.
But, I like such videos for entertainment purposes. It's fun.

I liked the second episode a lot. I'll probably start using Aux tracks. Just wish it was possible to combine Folder and Audio tracks functionality and use Aux track as a Folder and vice versa.

If you really want to be informative try doing comparisons to other DAWS instead of just older versions of the same proggy...

I'm using SOnar Platinium on a 6 core Lynx Audio machine and a ton of vintage pre-amps/eq's/comps I build for fun and sometimes money, REDD.47/API/Neve I also use the UAD stuff, and also use a Macbook Logic 9 through Apogee...

This is very much a work in progress. That's certainly one thing we will consider. There will be more interview style videos and other discussions to keep it fresh. And of course we are monitoring the forum and YouTube page for feedback.

I liked the second episode a lot. I'll probably start using Aux tracks. Just wish it was possible to combine Folder and Audio tracks functionality and use Aux track as a Folder and vice versa.

My sentiments. The 2nd CakeTalk is helpful. Nice and loose presentation. Several good ideas presented in a short time frame. These CakeTalks I think are going to be something to look forward to.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

We will definitely keep refining based on feedback. I think the great thing about this is that we put it out, listen, and adapt. And we will try different topics and even formats and see what people like.

Likewise. 2nd vid so much better and helpful. I admit, I do not try, or investigate, all the added stuff since we went month to month. I did in the 'old days' with each new version of cake, spending maybe 2 weeks or more getting to know it, buying each vid tutorial etc, but now, I either don't have time, or I'm lazy. Cant decide which !! I read the ezine's, read the blogs (sometimes), but now I will watch all these shorts episode's so I can decide what's useful and worth investigation. I wasn't using aux tracks, but started using them a couple of days ago. I will use the new tempo mapping, but it's a one off for me to pull a feature out of the updates these days. So, keep the episodes coming please. The last format was great. Thanks.

Platinum. i7 4771 3.5ghz. ECU H87 mobo with 3 monitor support. 16gb Ripjaws 1600mhz. Focusrite 18i20. 2 x 250gb Samsung EVO SSD's OP/Programs. 2x1TB Seagate Baracuda sata3 data drives. 200gb sata2 bootable drive for online and downloading only. Seagate 2tb USB 3.0 backup drive.  2x27in monitors. Rode K2 valve mic. Sontronics STC-1 pair. Studio Projects B1 condenser. SM58B. SM57B. Presonus Eureka Preamp.

Re: CakeTalk Episode 1 with Joey Adams and Dan Gonzalez 2016/04/03 00:35:55 (permalink)
These videos transport me back to the days of Seth and Ryan, and this sort of thing has been notoriously missing for at least a few years . . . glad to have it back. I really enjoy the looseness of the presentation, two casual guys trying to show the how and why of some new Sonar features.

What I take away from the videos is a better understanding of these new features. Especially . . . watching the second video about the new Aux tracks feature . . . I must admit I had totally panned this new feature because I didn't get what it was really about. (And I read the manual about it many times) Watching Dan and Joey's video made the light bulb come on . . . it is actually something I will find useful in my recording workflow, now that I understand how to apply it.

For those of us who learn visually, I'm very glad Cakewalk have brought this type of video series back to life, and really think if it can become a weekly, or at least monthly thing it will be most appreciated by all. The production costs are low, and that's a good thing, so it will hopefully be more sustainable this time . . . it's just two Sonar experts sharing their knowledge of the new features.
The "Cake TV" concept is finally back to being what it should be.

Cakewalk by Bandlab, Cubase, RME Babyface Pro, Intel i7 3770K @3.5Ghz, Asus P8Z77-VPro/Thunderbolt, 32GB DDR3 RAM, GeForce GTX 660 Ti, 250 GB OS SSD, 2TB HDD samples, Win 10 Pro 64 bit, backed up by Macrium Reflect, Novation Impulse 61 Midi Key Controller, Tannoy Active Near Field Monitors, Guitars by Vantage, Gibson, Yamaki and Ovation.

This episode was very informative and I enjoyed watching it.  For some reason, I never thought about using aux tracks this way!  Maybe it was due to me not fully understanding the signal flow, but what a time-saver!  There have been many times that I wish I could just record the full-modded input sound from my synths but always assumed I would need to record DI and then copy all of my FX from the bin to Clip-FX, then bounce down, or bounce to track.  But what a waste of time!!!

Keep more episodes like #2 coming!  I appreciate it!

This week we have part 1 of a 2-part series that is dedicated to mastering. In part 1, Cakewalk's Dan Gonzalez interviews Daniel from LANDR about machine learning, where LANDR is going, and much more. We have posted the extended version along with a shorter version that is more Q&A style.

Part 2 will be available early next week and will be an in-depth look at the two new linear phase mastering plugins that will be available soon.

... I  am not a big fan of the infomercial style format ...
... The only other comment I would make is I am unsure how wise it is to rubbish the version of your software that was being touted as your flagship only 12 months ago to show how good your new version is....
... Those personal taste points aside - great job! ...

I agree with Bruce. Making fun of your previous flagship product or even of yourself isn't funny.
For ideas on new episodes why not use Cakewalk's own blog? It has quite a few great articles. Also Craig Anderton's weekly tips thread is an excellent source.

They lost me too when starting trashtalking older versions to compare with new - and on top of that trying to don't get anything in X3 suddenly.
- wtf no tracks on canvas
- wtf is this dialog
- I don't get anything

Look at how Presonus do it, maybe. All boosting the new version, somewhat silly, everything is epic etc, in between but never trashing anything.

This caketalk was rather bad attempt, real amateur style I would say.
I would even suggest removing it, and replace with a new Caketalk 1 later.
No reason to have it floating around - in my humble view of course, just looking three minutes and had enough.
