I agree with the grace period man! One possibility is to start counting the deal on the day you REGISTER your upgrade, not on the date of purchase. If someone bought it online on 6/30, it is quite possible, that they still haven't received it in the mail!

Come on now... how many times has any of us missed out on a sale or a promo by a day or two? Why make it 5 days? What's so special about 5 days? What about the guy that bought it 6 days before? That's like a sock to the gut for missing the promo in the first place, followed up with a karate chop to the back of the head for missing the grace period by one day... I mean the guy's still gonna be p!ssed, right? So where does it end?

As far as what the upgrade will be called, exactly when it will be available, and what features it will include, the only thing I can definitively tell you today is that full version of Rapture will not be included as part of this upgrade. For the rest, you can speculate all you want, but you’ll need to wait for our official announcement to get the full scoop.

Yeah, the Rapture upgrade deal is no suprise, but I am suprised that it will not be included in the next release... It would just make sense that Sonar 7 included the full version of Z3TA, Sonar 8 included the full version of Dim Pro, it would follow suite that another synth would be included in S9. So much for my power of prediction LOL! Some of us may remember Z3TA and Dim Pro going on sale prior to the Sonar releases!

Yeah. And I bought the full versions before they started giving them away. Like others said, I got what I paid for. No reason to b***h. Can't wait to see what this Up-whatever will be all about.

I upgraded to 8 pro knowing the £99 was a true bargain and not upset at all that another offer was available on 1st July, £99 for the upgrade and the great book and video is a bargain and if I want to upgrade then I would be happy to pay it as I paid peanuts for the upgrade to pro.

The point that Keith makes above is EXACTLY what I've been trying to say-- everyone is very, very much so thinking of themselves here and thats understandable of course. But this is a business. The promotions are the promotions- if the backdate the offer for 5 days, then the peeps who ordered 6 days ago are even MORE furious than everyone else. You can NOT win by doing that- it doesn't work. You have to just set the dates and stick to them. There is absolutely NO way to keep everyone happy. Not in business. There are gonna be folks who miss the sales. Thats why there are sales- so that there are special deals sometimes.

They can't base things on registration dates, cuz peeps have for months /years and dont register. My friend just registered her SONAR 2 in order to get a discount. Thats not a fair assessment of when the product was gotten. It must be based on purchase date.

If you are an early adopter, you take certain risks. Don't **** about it- don't do it if you don't like it.

Thats all-

Carry on

Anyone from Cakewalk know who the "select retailers" are (Canada specifically)?

Upgrading customers:

Starting July 1st, 2009, when you upgrade to SONAR 8 Studio or SONAR 8 Producer at Cakewalk.com or select music and sound retailers, you will be eligible to download the next paid update to SONAR for free.

I'm afraid that I'll buy it from the wrong one and not qualify!
Thanks

Hey WaveScape in Australia I've purchased upgrades before from an Aussie Cakewalk reseller (with no mention/awareness of any upgrade offers) and had no problems with any of the Cakewalk promo offers etc that were relevant to here (Australia).

CW have been good in my humble and limited experience with honoring the product as intended for the offer at that time. You can fire CW an email to be sure... and they do actually get back to you.

Shouldn't be a problem but will be easy enough to check.

Happy shopping... I'm waiting to hear back from my reseller for this offer.

Hi there,
I can't seem to find a definition of "select retailers".
How can I tell if I'll be eligible for the rebate if I buy
from XYZ retailer?
Thanks!

I have SONAR STUDIO 8.3.1.... I read that if I purchased the upgrade to PRODUCER, that I would qualify for the next paid upgrade FREE promotion. I purchased this from MUSIC123 (one of Guitar Center's ON LINE affiliates). I read that all I need to do is register VERSION 9 before July 31 to qualify.

I hope I got this right for I too was confused about qualifying retailers. I spoke to MUSIC123 and they didn't know what I was talking about and suggested I contact CAKEWALK... whew, talk about a run around. Now, they did know about the REBATE program but not the upgrade promotion.

hi,
I asked the Support about the "select retailers" thing and received this answer:

Thanks for contacting Cakewalk Customer Service.
It doesn't matter where you purchase it.
There will be a retail promotional form that you must fill out to receive it.
(the free upgrade)

Mully, are you referring to Intelliware? They quoted me Aud$369 for the upgrade from 5PE to 8PE. I don't know if they charge for freight to WA. I got an e-mail from the Cakewalk On-Line Shop ROW (Rest Of World) who quoted me US$249 for the upgrade to 8PE + US$35 for freight (approx Aud$350). That's just too good to resist!

Hey,

Well I just bought Sonar 8 upgrade from PE 7 today (25th July) from DolphinMusic in the UK for £129. Lets hope that they are on Cakewalks selected retailers list.

I have to admit that I would not have upgraded at all without this offer from Cakewalk.

If someone wanted Sonar 8 all those months ago when it was first released then I don't see any problem with them having to pay for that upgade as well as the new one. As I said it was only because of the offer that I even bothered in the first place, otherwise I would have just stuck with PE7.

Cheers

Rod

Hey Blues that deal sounds about as good as we can get it. I had a different reseller who did my last upgrade for an excellent price but he can't do upgrades now so not sure if he's been parallel importing or whatever. Anyway, I'm keen to do the upgrade too mate so thanks for your info.

Will try and get it done before the cutoff date.

Best cheers.

UPDATE EDIT
Just ordered via Intelliware. It was $355.50AUD to go from S7 Studio to S8 Producer with postage. I've bought Sonar from them before and have to say they were good to deal with.
Looking forward to this arriving... the free 'update' sounds like it has plenty to deliver.

Mully, I wanted to PM you but it doesn't look like I can.

I decided to go with "Not Sour H2O" who were offering the same deal as CW for the upgrade plus $40 freight & handling. I've dealt with them many times and they already have my CC details. I purchased my U/G from HS2004XL to S5PE through those guys. The cost to U/G from S5PE to S8PE works out to Aud$352 at today's exchange rate.

That sounds like a good deal. I couldn't find them via Google at all, would be interesting to see the price to u/g from S7 Studio.

Dunno if you know Lez Karski at all (blues guitar mega player) but gee your pic looks like him. :)

EDIT
S8 Producer arrived today. Great work Intelliware, got a Leslie cabinet to repair tonight... and then INTO IT!

Ahhh Sweetwater.... doh!

My mate and fellow blues/soul buddy has a Hammond rig. Just got home after getting it firing.... LOVE that thing.

Lez lives in Albany and started Bondi Cigars, Hippos and others. This is him: http://www.pure-tone.com/...rtists/lez_karski.html

I'm in Adelaide mate (aka Snoozeville) and fighting the urge to go install the new S8 Pro 'upgrade pack'. Debating about whether or not to jump to 64 bit..... hmmmm.

Hey mate, my tunes are rubbish. Real old when I started working out a few things with Sonar so I must apologize now.

Have installed S8 Pro and done the updates. First impression is that the plugs look to be excellent. May not need much else really to get great results. Overall the engine does seem smoother... extra transport functions too are overdue but very appreciated like ffwd etc.

Guitar Rig could be good... it's only LE but should be usable.

In summary this update actually was worth the money from S7 Studio, even if only for the plugs. I'm looking forward to more discoveries along the way.

Best cheers.

I got the E-mails, I'm glad. Whoever did not should be upset if they made a purchase after the E-mail offer was started (as long as they WERE on the mailing list).
My understanding is that an 'upGRADE' is for a more recent version like from 6 HS to 6 PE,  or from 6 PE to 8 PE.

After I got 6 HS, I found out about the 'upDATE' to 6.2.1 or something like that, and it was free. It seems that it was mostly to FIX problem issues in 6 HS.

For me the confusion comes from the term 'paid update'.

If I had 8 PE and an upDATE like 8.3.1 or something comes along to fix problem issues IT SHOULD be free- since it is not intended to ENHANCE what you bought, but it would be to fix your DEFECTIVE version of 8 PE.

I suppose, 'paid update' means there will be fixes AND enhancements since it obviously would have cost me money if I had not taken Cakewalk's timely and generous offer.??
