Please refrain from comparing your minor V-Vocal issues with the organized murder of 11-17 million Jews and other undesirables.
The undesirable part should have been in quotes unless you think along the same lines.
You have absolutely no idea who reads these posts and it lends no credence to your argument and makes you look childish.
It sort of makes this point funny, ironic.

I know that you didn't mean any of this yet we often post in too much haste thus causing all sorts of misinterpretation.

I agree with what I believe you meant to say.

I think we should listen to Bit and let the thread die.

(6 was the version which introduced V/V by the way, not 5 or 7)

Sorry BJ, you're incorrect, I just checked my Sonar5 User's Guide and V-Vocal is in there (from p391 onwards). As I recall I purchased S5PE specifically because it included V-Vocal.

I did have an issue with V-Vocal years ago.  Once I started to bounce immediately afterwards it got rid of all the problems.

I can understand your frustrations.  From a pure economic standpoint, the cost that you have invested in your posts, website, etc. I'm sure outweighs the cost of a leading pitch correction plug-in.  You should think about cutting your losses now and make an investment in Melodyne (or something else).  Free yourself from built in Cakewlk plugins and try 3rd party software.

"...there is numerous users..."

Such confidence-inspiring English usage.----

Randy B.

What is the purpose of posts like this in this particular forum? Do you get a sense superiority by pointing out mistakes like this? Does it make you feel good?

Or is that part of CW board policy that grammar and typos has to be pointed out and the submitter ridiculed and flogged? It is certainly a good way to make sure that non-english speaking people will think twice about helping out. But I guess it is their own fault for not speaking english.

As a matter of fact we should have our own board.

Yes, that is why the timestamp on his edit is after my comment. No wait, that would mean you are wrong. It is sooo confusing.

I think this whole thread should be given a rest.

We've already established the basic information: a few users experience crashes with V-Vocal and the majority do not. Leave Melodyne out of it, as it is irrelevant. Lighten up on the grammar policing. ("english" should be capitalized, btw :)

CW support should have easily determined the cause of the crash from the crash dumps glrecording sent them (gl, you did send one, didn't you? They can't divine the answer from tea leaves, you know!).

I'm guessing they know exactly what causes it and are waiting for a fix from Roland. Another possibility is that the crashes are the result of an interaction with some 3rd party component, in which case they may be very limited as to what actions they can take.

What else really needs to be said about this topic?

And miss out on your divine platinum insight and knowledge?

Have you exhausted all the work around advice we've given so far?

I'm serious about that, Greg... I understand you're frustrated but we're spending our time providing input and all we're seeing back is tempermental rants.
How about providing some feedback on what advice you've tried and what results they gave?

Microsoft Surface Book w/ Surface dock, dual 24-inch HD displays,
Sonar Platinum, THD 4, GuitarRig, Amplitube, (Kontakt4), Garritan PO, Trillian Bass 1.3,  Roland Octa-Capture, Waves Gold & various Waves, PSP and T-Racks plugins.

I don't really see how you can think I am ranting - especially not in the context of all the crap some people are letting out. My original post was maybe a bit emotional but fairly clearly stated the problem and the desired goal.

I am really not interested in workarounds. I want the SW, that I have purchased throughout the years since the DOS days, to work as advertised. I want CW to stop sensoring helpful info, stop claiming the support info as confidential and take this problem serious and get it fixed. The problem has been there for years!

It has been an interesting journey. I cannot believe the amount of people that think they are moving anything forward by advertising their arrogance and/or stupidity through a glow of superiority, a twisted conviction that their little narrowminded outbursts make the world a better place, or an uncontrollable desire to correct or just point out errors in grammer and language.  I mean, we even had a guy thinking that I compared my V-vocal trouble to the eradication of '11-17mill' of my people. The whole thing has been a little like watching FOX news - one can just not believe how many weirdos are out there and crap they say, believe, or do.

Sijel, I do not mean to lump you in with these individuals. You have been very positive and provided info on workarounds. I think that is very nice of you.

Well, while having all this fun commenting on people's moronic prose I got contacted by CW Tech support. For the first time they actually asked for debug info!!

I guess I will use my new website (that took 30min to set up and cost $7.85) www.v-vocal.com to document this.

Obviously that's not referring to VVocal itself, which has been around for maybe 4-5 years: half as long as SONAR much less ProAudio before.

I believe it was this line that prompted the reaction: "Maybe we should wear a yellow star on our chest."  It is a direct comparison.   However, it appears to have been a side-topic about grammar and spelling, though I'm sure it all started rolling together a while ago...

Anyhow, I do hope VVocal gets some attention at some point.  I don't personally find it to be the most important thing ever in SONAR-land - I'd take an update to things like envelopes, notation and the UI way over VVocal.  But it is a delivered tool and could certainly use an update.  I know I don't use it that often since I don't completely trust it, but when I do it's always immedaitely followed by a bounce.  That seems to consistently avoid errors in my environment.   YMMV of course.

V-Vocal could surely work better, that's true, but with these:

"It has been an interesting journey. I cannot believe the amount of people that think they are moving anything forward by advertising their arrogance and/or stupidity through a glow of superiority, a twisted conviction that their little narrowminded outbursts make the world a better place, or an uncontrollable desire to correct or just point out errors in grammer and language. "

you're shooting yourself in the foot. Can't you see you're behaving exactly like the ones you're critisizing? Why should the other forumites behave any better (or do you think they are so much above you?). Often..(usually?) you get what you ask for. The forest echoes back what it hears.

That grammar-thing was a miserable mistake. The native english speakers often forget,  that so many here are using their second, third or fourth language. That's why it's good to have yourlocation mentioned under the avatar.

Go back and read my first post. I was really unhappy with Cakewalk - and still is. I did not attack anybody - just an aggressive cry for help...from Cakewalk. I clearly stated I like SONAR - I clearly said that it worked for some people but not others. If forumites would think "am I adding anything to the solution?" before posting - this thread would not have digressed so severely. I did not ask to be ridiculed and harrassed from forumites who has nothing to offer - but I am not just gonna sit back and take it. Come to think of it....what is the point of your post?

About the language and grammar...why would anybody even think about commenting on this? It shouldn't matter where I am from or what number language english is to me - as long as readers - even from the shallow end of the gene pool - can understand the points of the posts.

Posting here has been a bit like the end of the '78 version of "The Invasion of the Body snatchers"'.

I got the attention from Cakewalk and that is what I wanted. I am not optimistic but maybe it will get us all one step closer to a fix. Many forumites can not say that about their posts.

Read and understand the posts before you comment. The yellow star comment was in reference to treating other people from other backgrounds with respect - of course the poster went back and deleted his comments. Had absolutely nothing to do with V-vocal. But I think you knew that - it just more fun exploring how to twist things around so one can get offended rather than offering useful information.

To your first comment - thanks for the clarification - that is really useful. So the problem has only been there for 4-5 years. That doesn't change the fact that I have been giving my money to CW since the DOS days and think they owe me (us) SW that works.

Oh, I do...   You stated "...we even had a guy thinking that I compared my V-vocal trouble to the eradication of '11-17mill' of my people".  I was only pointing out why.  Granted, it had nothing to do with VVocal, that is completely true.   But when a thread starts rolling the way this one has, everything tends to get lumped together in a big pile of... well, you know.

As far as my first comment goes...   You started this thread to focus on VVocal, VVocal and nothing but VVocal.  So stating that you've been a customer for years and therefore Cakewalk "owes you/us a fix" doesn't really seem like useful information either.   IOW, I can't see anyone at Cakewalk thinking to themselves, "oh, he's been a customer since the DOS days?  OK, that's a better business case for dedicating resources to this one specific tool".  Not when there have been massive threads disucussing commonly agreed upon areas where SONAR needs improvement the most - envelopes, notation, UI, etc, etc.     At the same time I get the emotional aspect; i.e., the frustration.

BTW, I like the running log of events on your website.  It seems to be factual and to the point, and that's what this topic needs IMHO.

Anyhow...  That's about all I've got.   This has certainly been another interesting SONAR forum thread!

I completely agree with this quote from Stevec.  I think it's good that you are documenting the FACTS of YOUR problems and troubleshooting experience with CW Tech Support.

(I also believe the other parts on that page are unnecessary and misleading.  To me it implies that you have the same problem and cause as the other forum posts.  Putting these posts on the same page as YOUR tech support experience is misleading.  Also, references to people switching to Melodyne are not relevant unless you then want to point out that people are having problems with Melodyne and AutoTune as well.  Afterall, there are posts in Sonar and the other forums detailing unfixed problems with each of these products.  If you are operating in good faith, you should strive to provide unbiased information (otherwise, you're no better than, as you referenced in one of your posts here, Fox .  I'd call them "Fox News" - but they're not a "News" program, they're more like "Inflammatory Entertainment."

I appreciate your input but the web site is mine so I can do want I want. If people don't like it they can just avoid typing in www.v-vocal.com . The site is not about my experience with tech support. It is about getting a fix so all experience involving V-vocal and  tech support is relevant. What is really annoying me is that the problem has been there for so long - so whatever it takes to get attention works for me - even "Inflammatory Entertainment"....which this board has really helped me with.

Yeah, I kind of agree with this too...   There are others having (or have had) issues with VVocal, you can certainly find them here.  But not everyone has the same exact problems or to the same extent.  It seems to vary from "I can't go two seconds without a crash" to "it never crashes on me at all", and all points in between.

I understand that includling links to postive responses might not fit in so well with the purpose of the website, but facts are facts...   Ask Fox News, they'll tell ya!

Re:V-Vocal cronus.dll CRASH - OPEN LETTER - I am not gonna take this s*** anymore. 2010/09/11 10:44:34 (permalink)
first of all

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
On getting your problem noticed by the roland tech's manager.
Maybe even got higher.

When I first read your post I had no problem understanding what you were saying and attempting to do.
Very clear I thought. BUT....I said good luck.
Hey, I only paid 300 bucks for 8.5 PE 64
I thought maybe you paid like $619 US,  the list price.  LOL!!!!
I'd a been pissed too.
I'm used to stuff not working the way it's supposed to;
And the things you have to do to get it to do,
what it will otherwise not do but you need it to do.

You must understand that the r&d team for this program, (the coders), are probably in japan and these guys running this site are not anywhere near the top of the food chain in rolandland.  They merely report what gets through what ever else they are much more engrossed in doing.......
Madden Football?  or
whatever else their boss can think for them to do to earn their keep.
Are you aware of this fact?  most coders Do Not test their own code beyond this;
They code it.
Then they see if it works on the build they have on their set up.
That's it.
They export it (save it to an internal distribution site) and they are on to the next thing.
They think that if it works on mine, it will work on yours.
These guys are frequently very very intelligent (at least about programming), and heavily invested in doing it.
They are also frequently very busy on the next projects planned for however far AHEAD they are planning.
Not doing bug fixes.
In most cases, I'd guess the guys doing bug fixes are the lowest guys on the totem pole;
 new hires or interns.............
Doing bug fixes is not something anyone in software industry thinks is important.  Duh...
You already bought it.  LOL.
Ever try to return software?
Sorry but it's true.

Think I'm kidding?

Intel, IBM, HP and all the others headquartered in silicon valley and the others you can think of around the world.
They are all alike and they all know each other also.
You must have heard of monkey see.....monkey do.
They emulate each others model.
I'd qualify that by saying, in the USA , for sure;
and quite a few are good friends with their counterparts in europe and asia.
So, if they leave one company?  They get hired at another.
I'd guess that all that is here in the USA for Roland is marketing & sales & distribution.
Now the Japanese.
Not well known for wanting to deal with Americans.
Is this a problem the Japanese market is having?
Yes? No?
That might help explain the time lag between you complaining and anything being done about it.

Unless you threaten to change DAWS!!!!!!! LOL

Audacity is free.   And you can get recording software LE with almost any music hardware addon to a computer.  berringer gives it away
with a $49 midi/audio usb input and supports it.
It's chinese though. any body tried it?

I'll stay with Sonar out of loyalty to Greg Hendershott
and because of my 17 year Cakewalk 3.0 sequencer experience.
I hope that I have the good results many on this forum have had
with getting it (SONAR) to do what I want when I get down to it.
The ones that get it to work seem to love it.  At least they say they do.
I'm still going through acclimatisation.......

We shall see what happens when I get frustrated..........
Large type face is in my arsenal..................
but, but, but.....it is KAPU!!!!!.........................oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

watch it

I'll use it!!! ............

look out grumplepie!!

Aside from a few items that have Roland's name on them, Cakewalk researches, codes, tests, and fixes everything about SONAR from our home office in Boston and the various home offices belonging to remote employees. Cakewalk.com and this forum are indeed hosted by Cakewalk and while we do like video games, we try to keep it to after hours.

wow            way cool
refreshing and quite different from all the latest trend although, isn't alesis on the east coast somewhere now too, and under new ownership?   (rhetorical)

so, i'm just guessing Roland bought Cakewalk and part of the deal was to let you guys run your own show?  Hmmmmm
none of my business so no answer necessary.

Whole lots of question flooding my brain now?  Lots of why thises then and how comes?
As they percolate and form some kind of cohesive glob I'll try to ask them somewhere on the forum ....... or not

Like,  how many coders working on this?   Cakewalk a small group?  You make it seem so is all
I was merely speculating where your r & d team was since Roland bought you.
Seemed to make sense they'd be in Japan.
Is that the why, of why it takes a long time to get stuff fixed, or is it,  that it is, and/or was a difficult fix? or, the problem of Sonar conflicting with other programs? or vice versa and not Sonar's fault at all?

you aware that there is a definite need for a DEEPER FAQ & answers section to help protect newbies from attack by old and crankys? maybe above getting started?  one where when someone asked a question in getting started, the answer would be #26 or #74,  instead of "if you weren't yelling and screaming and crying and threatening to change daws we'd help, but since you are not using enough commas, and other correct punctuation,  in your broken english rant we won't."
seems like empathy and sympathy are in short order these days
or maybe a firmer BE NICE!!! would work?  or if you can't say something positive    shhhhh  ?

The one (FAQ) I've found only tells me it doesn't work -- what's it say -- 404 or something like that?  not available  ah i went and looked and found that other one in support.  i was referring to the one in forum menu as the one broken.   i was searching for the answer to how do i make my poor avatar fit that avatar space better?

that was just a joke you know..... about madden football

lol

They know each other because they are competitors and the competition is fierce.

You should check your facts. Most of what you said is nonsense. For one thing, IBM's headquarters is in New York which is not in the Silicon Valley.

Having worked in the IS business for the last 30 years, I can tell you the employees are not playing Madden Football. IS workers work as much or more overtime than most companies. Technicians work almost every weekend doing changes because that's the only time they can get a window.

Last time I checked, Cakewalk had about 65 employees total. Not a big operation.

Madden Football has never been a big thing in our world. Doom once was, though. Those Microsoft guys were wicked good at it, too.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

dude

sales men are carnivores
the rest just do this for love of it and/or cash

you have any idea of what aloha is?
if not
would you please google it and reflect?
you could use a lil.   IMHO
nonsense huh?  you have a high opinion of your opinions is my opinion
stay away from my equipment please
you aren't the only one in the "business" dude
i used to repair IBM Selectric's ( bet you can't)(try - i dare you)
is how far i go back in this, i was trained by ITT and IBM
(that makes me pre - compooter) unless you count univac
and my wife ...a MSEE from USC, senior member of the core competency group in her particular company, whos involvement in software takes her around the world and into EVERY major electronics corporation in the world and (lots of lil ones too) is my source of information...i think i'll take her word and my own two eyes and ears, since i'm frequently with her on her trips and also know many of the others in her group, several genius level and they frequently can be found playing madden football (which was merely an example) or something even more odd
if queried they usually reply that it helps them to think or relax or
screw you - why you care what i'm doin?
work more like 24/7        by the by  i was referring to programmers,  coders,
the sorcerers and high priestesses  (not the techs)( techs code in your company?  cool.)  knowing each other, (not personally, (although many do) sheeeesh!!!  gotta explain everything?) as it behooves them to cultivate and at least know --- about --- each other
you could have said there are many more  variables
and i was making  sweeping generalisations  or some such
but you are right about ibm's hq - ooooopsy .  i was confusing intels foundry on san tomas expressway  in.......
are they in santa clara or san jose?
and no one's getting "paid" overtime now in the tech ranks
or so i've been told at my wife's corp.
lucky to still have jobs.......if they do
who you work for getting overtime?
lucky you

you could have at least told me how to make my avatar fit the space better
that would have been some help

thanks anyway for reminding me about ibm's hq
you do know that one of IBM's head guys is famous for asking
"why would anyone want a computer in their home?"
maybe that's why they never came out to silicon valley to
head quarter.   like most everyone else.    consider that.   embarassment. ?

I must try to be more accurate
how about my punctuation?
i see lots of missing commas
sorry

This is getting weirder by the minute.

tomas - my avatar is 145 x 141 and it fits pretty well.  You could try to resize to something close to those dimensions.
