i tried enlarging it and it just messed my photo all up!!!! and it stayed small when i imported it here it folded it or something .... not nice to put creases in my op art no idea of what i'm doing wrong... i have tried at least ten times but thank you very much i will try again geno i went to your music page....... soundclik? i like the energy in your sound a lot natalie and now i'm in the middle of fork in the road some of the others, the first two, it seemed to me your vocal gets buried? thats you playing guitar? way cool to maintain the focus of the listener on the message which is what any song is (or should be) trying to do is the hardest thing to accomplish and the most necessary. can't bury the vocals. ok just my pennys worth once again thanks for your help hope i gets it to fit miau mahalo much aloha tom

Sometime in the last few days CW has again censored the board. this time they changed the title of this thread. It used to be "V-Vocal cronus.dll CRASH - OPEN LETTER - I am not gonna take this stuff anymore.". So that means I now have had CW involved in this thread an impressive 3 times. 2 times for censoring and one time with a post that is completely unrelated to the problem. Not so impressive. That is just annoying. <From the mod> Please refer to the TOS and refrain from violating it. Otherwise the thread will be locked.

No it's not going to fix this problem. It goes more to a difference in culture and approach in fixing known issues.

No, would you care to elaborate? seriously? your title violates the TOS. you're not supposed to use profanity in the forum - even using other characters to "mask" it. and yes, it says that in the TOS. I agree your title's profanity is not that big of a deal - but the mods DO have a right to edit your posts which have profanity, masked or not. and the cakewalk mods don't necessarily have anything to do with development or technical problems, so saying that cakewalk is "involved" in your thread just because they edited your post doesn't mean that the mods who edited the post are in any kind of position to affect the software directly to resolve the issues.

I'm just a little confused. V-Vocal is a Roland product, so even though Roland owns Cakewalk, if the problem lies with V-Vocal, then I am guessing that it would be the Roland software engineers (who are in Japan?) who would have to "fix" it. It comes down to this: is the problem a Roland V-Vocal problem or is it a Cakewalk Sonar problem? In other words, can Cakewalk in Boston address the issues, or does the coding have to come from a team in Japan? We can only hope that the tighter integration of the two companies will mean that these types of issues will become less frequent. BTW, I think CW has shown extreme leniency in allowing this sort highly confrontational post to exist on their forums, any other manufacturer forum that I know of would have nuked it day one.

I agree, Cakewalk has shown good restraint lately, and it does not go unappreciated. I love to see a forum self-moderate. Sometimes things do need a helping hand when they get way, way off track or personally derogatory, but lately, Cakewalk has upped the game and the forum seems pretty healthy. That, or they are all too busy to moderate since they're slaving away on Sonar 9. :) Or maybe both?

It is amazing how a thread like this goes all over the place...and also how many comedians come out of the woodwork. I agree with the OP frustration (although cursing in your posts is not the answer). We shell out the $500 not just for the core DAW but also for all the add-in features. These features are what really seperate each of the big contenders in the Daw market space. All of them record audio/midi etc. But the virtual instruments and plugins are pretty much unique in each system. I would like to stress that I am very happy with most of Sonar. It is the Daw I currently use 95% of the time even though I have Reaper and Logic Studio. However, Sonar needs to hang a large banner in its development shop that states "NO MORE CRASHES". Its developers should focus on delivering software that recovers gracefully from errors (even third party plugins/VI errors). No matter what issues we have with functionality or quality of the plugin effect or virtual instrument, we should never have an issue with SONAR CRASHING to our desktop. This should be the foundation that everything else about Sonar is built upon. My two cents.

Sijel my workflow is to work a single clip and then bounce before moving on, never having multiple clips open.
I use this workflow as well and don't see problems. I HAVE seen problems if you leave V-Vocal open and/or keep multiple V-Voval clips un-bounced. Here's what works for me: - Break tracks into clips - editting at the silent parts. I find it's best to use the smallest clip duration that you need to get the job done. I do NOT ever try correcting an entire track clip (but maybe that's because I use V-Vocal surgically or for effect).
- Save my project (!!!)
- Enable track layers on the track in question
- Create a V-Vocal clip using the right click menu option on the original clip.
- Move that new V-vocal clip (which is by default ON TOP of the original clip) down using SHIFT-drag to an open layer. You willl now see the original track with the red mute symbol (i.e., a crossed out O). [Shift-drag keeps the clip aligned to the original clip.]
- Operate in the V-Vocal Editor to your heart's (or ear's
) content - CLOSE the V-Vocal Editor and IMMEDIATELY "Bounce to Clip" - this is very important! If you leave this Editor open or don't bounce this Clip, you will most likely encounter a problem as you keep working
- Listen for a few times to make sure the new clip is ok... and then File...Save (use a new version number if you wish and add a comment on what track you V-vocaled.). If you don't like what you heard, you can delete the V-Vocal track and unmute the original track...for perfect safety, you can close the project without saving and reload to your earlier version.
This workflow has allowed me to make literally dozens of V-Vocal edits in a project (apparently, I don't sing as perfectly on pitch in recording as I do in the shower , though I've also used it for instrument harmony/pitch shifts & detunes). Sorry to hear of the OP's frustration... I've known that feeling in the past when I've lost V-Vocal stuff along with a bunch of clip edits and/or automations. I'm hoping and assuming that V-Vocal will be further stabilized in v9. Greg: Try the suggestions above and from other forum members on V-Vocal workflow and please let us know if this helps. So I started to use VVocal for the first time today in anger, and guess what - it kept crashing my project. A quick forum search threw up this thread with excellent advice from Sijel above. I followed this procedure and was able to edit away to my hearts content with no further crashes. Thanks Sijel! Jamie

RB Another productive and useful post by rbowser - who apparently has a license to rant. Thanks for keeping it alive. I will promise that when the V-vocal problem is fixed then I will not post here anymore. How about you promise not to post anything unless you have something to share that might help solve the problem. Back to the problem.... I think it would be helpful if the people who experience this problem (this means that people who is happy with V-vocal does not have to post anything - really, nothing!) could share how many V-vocal clips they have and how they are 'distributed', in the project that exhibits the problem. In trying to gather data for tech support I realized that it appears the problem occurs more often when a number of tracks have v-vocal clips in the same measures (several clips under each other on different tracks) - as opposed to many clips horizontally. A huge difference in how long time elapses before a crash. (and yes, the problem will go away - even for me - if the changes are bounced to clips) www.v-vocal.com

Thanks Jamie. This process has worked for others. I WISH the OP would try this approach and report back. But, it appears this thread is more of a rant than a true issue resolution thread. At this point, if we don't hear back from the OP on attempts to use the process workflow, we as a community should petition the CW moderator to close this thread as "Resolved - use the suggested workflow until improvements come out in the next release(s)." Thoughts?
