Update....
I was assured again yesterday that the dev team is actively working on a fix.
Now THAT is good news.

This thread is too lengthly, but I too fell victim to repeatable v-vocal inspired crashes last evening. Surprising because Sonar has been rock solid for me since ver 3. However... Recording volume automation over a v-vocal clip burned me a couple of times yesterday and I lost some mixing work. Not a biggie, I will just bounce to a track next time before doing automation. But it did catch me off-guard and was irritating at the time.

Very odd.

I know this isn't what you or glrecordings want to hear, but last night after applying V/V to a vocal track I then started to automate the volume at track level.

Went flawlessly.

One slightly different approach is that I didn't record my automation, I went in and drew it by hand.

Don't know if this is a pointer or not, but try it the other way and see what happens.

These type of issues don't infuriate me at all. It's software. And I really didn't lose anything critical. But It probably does matter drawing vs recording... It crashed both times during the recording of the automation. I was doing fader rides, so at times, there were some quick adjustments. It was during the quick adjustment phase that I crashed each time. Sonar is very stable, this is just one of the quirky things I've found that caused my work to stall. The good news is I can simply bounce or freeze the v/v track and move on with the automation.

I have used V-Vocal for the first time "ever" today and within 5 minutes of use, it crashed Sonar.  So far it has crashed Sonar 3 times. I went to search this forum for an answer and found this thread. So far it seems that enabling in Plug-ins is working.

Still...I am not happy that I risk the loss of data because of something like this. I can't imagine how upset I would be if my song got corrupted...I would be pretty mad and for a long time. I have Italian Alzheimer's (I never forget) :)

I work endlessly on my music, also on trying to learn as much about Sonar as possible.  I expect the software I use to perform without this type of a hitch.

As a customer I should never be put in the position that I have to fix it after I have a problem. I think Sonar is excellent and most of my issues are self-inflicted but there is no excuse for this.
Oh...also...Solo and Mute do not work in V-Vocal for me. Any ideas?

OK...crashed again after enabling in plug-in. Worked for about 2 vocal tracks and crashed while working on harmony track.

So this doesn't work for me.

I had problems with V-Vocal and Sonar 8.5.3, whenever I tried to create a V-Vocal clip, Sonar would crash. I contacted Tech Support and they steered me through several procedures until the issue was resolved. I will not post the procedure because I respect that it's confidential information.

Tech support said to do the cronos.dll fix and use smaller audio files.

I had prefaced my issue, addressing the cronos.dll fix as a invalid, and resubmitted that the solution didn't work for me.

Awaiting a second response for two weeks at this time.

V-vocal consistently works great for me.  I work with small bits at a time, a measure or two, when I like the results, I bounce to clip.  The plug-in's work is over and it's gone.  NP.

Hi, Pwal - Don't assume it will crash if you want to use it sometime.  It appears to me that the main reason people have crashing problems is when they work on huge chunks of a project at a time, and maybe try to never bounce to a clip.  I use it sparingly, but not gingerly - I get an instance going, fix what I need, and then bounce to clip, as I said before.

Something I wanted to pass on to you, since you said you never use it, is that V-Vocal can help with instrument tracks too.  If you've ever found yourself reaching for the Cakewalk pitch shift tool, and gritting your teeth all through the process of trying to use it - V-Vocal is what completely replaces the need for the much more primitive shift tool.  I corrected the pitch of some instruments recently, the results are seamless.  And shifting things in time is much more successful and intuitive to do than in Audio Snap.  --I'm just saying V-Vocal can be of major help.

Yes, tried the smaller clips routine and for my case, it actually crashed much sooner than having one large sound file.

On another note: After cronus.dll was enabled, crashing got worse. Disabling cronus.dll made it work better - go figure.

Thanks, for the suggestion Sijel

I'm unable to get that far with small clips. If there's more than one clip per v-vocal track, it crashes sooner :(

Oh the irony...

Others are all using small clips and can bounce to track. This method is pure crash hell for myself, lol.

Ironically v-vocal works better on larger sound files for my mess.

It appears to me that the main reason people have crashing problems is when they work on huge chunks of a project at a time, and maybe try to never bounce to a clip.

Not in my case, Randy, and some others too probably. Sonar would crash as soon as I tried to Create V-Vocal Clip. I purposely chose an audio track that I had spilt into a very short length, right clicked the clip and... Kerrash.

Hi, Frank - I understand, for some reason V-Vocal is a dud for some people.  I'm happy that it's always worked perfectly on my system, but of course it's always almost impossible to track down what specifically makes a program crash on one system, and work smoothly on another.  'tis a mystery.

Keep in mind that a 3 minute long clip split in to smaller chunks, or that has had the edges dragged in so it's only a 10 second clip, is still a 3 minute long clip as far as Sonar is concerned until you click 'Apply Trimming'.

Another thing to try is, raise your audio card buffers. Once you are done recording and are in the editing/mixing stage, latency is not an issue any more and raising audio card buffers can correct a lot of different problems and decreases the load on your CPU.
