Right now the forum "hosts" are debating how things will be run around here. In their own forum. Without any of our input.
Do you mean the Coffee House forum? Does that have anything to do with the abreviation I've seen some users post "FSF." And just what is FSF, anyway?

No Thomas, I am talking about their own private forum. FSF= I honestly have no idea. I am also curious as to the meaning! Probably something simple that went over my head. Rain

I know the nature of the coffee house is to make light of things and poke fun, but I feel that it needs to be pointed out that the people who we're working with are either people who reached out directly to us expressing interest in helping, or people we have worked with directly for years and have found to be helpful and committed to both Cakewalk and this community. We had a several week long discussion here regarding our ideas here and some folks reached out. Simple as that. Nobody is picking favorites, there's no cast system, there's really not even many differences we have planned other then a reorganization of our sub forums, turning on some features in the software that haven't been on, and some extra people who can help direct others regarding what our goal is with the new additional forums (such as a Feature Request forum and a Problem Reports forum). If you weren't contacted and are wondering why, the simplest explanation is probably because I don't know who you are, haven't worked with you directly or in a very long time, or you did not reach out to Willy or myself. If you want to fault me for that, by all means, but a better approach might simply be to write me. I have a lot of my plate and don't get to know all the of the personalities on the forum unfortunately. If people are going to make examples of others, then this thread is going to be locked. This forum isn't around for us to slander other people. None of this is about any particular person, it's about having a helpful community. Having a variety of personalities is totally fine as long as people are willing to work with one another. There is nothing bad going on here. I'm very surprised at any negative reactions considering we're all feeling pretty positive about this. If you're interested in helping the cause you're welcome to reach out to us. Like I said, I don't personally know every person here and who is or isn't helpful or interested in helping. If you're interested in helping, just send a PM to myself or Willy. If you're not interested, that's fine as well, but you're certainly not being excluded. Again, we did have a discussion that went on for several weeks. I'll be honest, we're not going to be picking people who are more interested in trash talking. Knocking an idea and the people trying to make improvements before the details have even been shared isn't helpful. Again, as I've said before, this thread is completely premature and based on some big assumptions. All we are doing here is reorganizing the forums and bringing some people on board, who have expressed interest, with helping us keep content organized and draft some stickies which will result in a better place for everyone. They have all been extremely helpful so far with offering a variety of opinions and input. They are not and will not be super-users with iron fists. We already discussed all of this in the thread I linked above.

For those who care. FSF is an acronym = Forum Super Fred (WTF is a Fred? well it's a thread..... get it?). The thread in question was dubbed FSF by Jonbouy (one might think in a mocking tone but it stuck). The FSF was explicitly started at a time when it was suggested that someone (moi?) was hogging page one of the Coffee House. The thread is super long (pun intended) and contains drivel and not-so-drivel. No one is EVER expected to read it all. That's not the point. Many of us (the participants) consider it a corner of the Coffee House where at least one of us is always "there" holding our table for the others while they go out and about. It's probably a joke (or embarrassment) to some. To others it's a joke to be enjoyed much like your uncle who tells the same stories over and over at every family gathering. You can stop and listen or you can move to the kitchen and eat some leftovers. Like all threads, it's your choice to skim, post or ignore. The title changes from time to time. That's (maybe?) another part of it's charm, mystique or confusion.

Thanks again, Ryan. I was'nt trying to be a troublemaker or negative. I was just trying to get a picture of what some users have been saying or implying what is going on. I really like the Cakewalk forums, too, but I haven't been around much lately, and am just trying to understand what's going on with this new change and the Forum Hosts feature about to be implemented. Sorry, if I came off as a troublemaker. That certainly wasn't my intention.

Just popping in briefly (super busy with other stuff but I have been lurking in between said stuff) to make a personal plea to a) the BAKERS (not the forum hosts because they likely will not have the power and nor should they) and b) all those who partake in the following behavior. I've said this before but I think this is a good opportunity to state it again. Those old beefs? Seriously F*CK those old beefs. There are those of us who are SICK of hearing about crap that happened years ago. Good threads get derailed with bickering that I'd say 99% of the people who use this forum do not give a flying frack about. It puts people on edge and likely scares off n00bs who just came looking for some help (which is the whole freaking point of this place AFAIK). You have a problem with someone? Block them, ignore them, report them to the Bakers or better yet just learn to talk it out like adults then DROP IT but ferchrissakes don't drag it out across multiple threads for years ensnaring everyone around you into it. It is annoying, it is disruptive and quite frankly it surprises me every time I see it happen. Awesome, intelligent guys all of a sudden turning into sneering, bickering teenagers. I didn't like it in high school and sure as hell don't like it now. Who's right? Who's wrong? Who the hell cares?! I sure as hell don't. To me there are no sides except those who participate in and/or perpetuate that crap and the rest of us who just want to learn and chat with other musicians about our craft. If you enjoy internet drama and flamewars there are a million other websites out there where you can get your ya yas out. I know there are because I freaking go to them and rabble along with the rest of the rabble. Here? This place is better than that and so is (almost) everyone here. I'm sorry if that offends anyone but seriously that crap drives me up the WALL and there is absolutely no value behind it!! Please... PLEASE just stop!!! As far as the forum "hosts" I was under the impression that specific people were being chosen to "host" specific areas. Like Alex would be helping with the "Problems" thread (which was supposed to be created) because he kept the bug list. Other folks who frequent the X forum and are even tempered would be dealing with that. Guys like Danny would be on the Techniques forum and CH regulars would be hosting the CH. THAT seems like the best plan and that is how it should go down. Alex should NOT be hosting the CH (no offense but that doesn't make sense and he'd be more useful elsewhere) and someone like Rain shouldn't be hosting the X forum (again no offense but that wouldn't make ANY sense BUT he would have been a good fit for down here). Has this changed? Yo, Forum Hosts.... run that up the pipe because otherwise I fear you may have WWIII on your hands by the looks of things. Thank you for entertaining my rant. Hopefully this doesn't get me on anyone's sh*t list because you know I like all of you guys. It's the damned squabbling I hate. Peace.

The Coffee House requires a reverse-Mod. If they find a topic that's somehow thoughtful, serious and to the point, then it should be immediately moved upstairs or edited to mock the original poster. There are reasons why usually mature adults still watch cartoons like Spongebob, Family Man and South Park, and anyone that doesn't understand that really should just stay out of the Coffee House. Sometimes the best reaction is to not react at all.

I will not try to control it in any way that is not part of being a host. I am personally against censorship and I wont censor opinions even if they are directed at me. In my view the forums have, on their own, done things well. To me, we the hosts, are here to serve and help. We are not here to push members around or cause further conflict. I believe that a very light touch and a near appearance of absence will serve these forums better than any other approach. I will remove spam whenever I see it if that is one of my duties. I will try hard not to interfere with ongoing threads that maybe "hot" but don't violate the TOS as it will be rewritten. I will be here to help and greet and make people feel at home. Right now I am not completely sure what I am going to be required to do, fully. These forums have done well all these years without us and I don't think you will see that anything has changed. If any of you think what I have said is unacceptable please PM me with your objections. I will not post any more in this thread. Thank you

Thanks John I'm sorry I wasn't as diplomatic as you have been here (regarding the other threads I have commented upon recently).

That's what I said from the beginning Alex. This will turn ya'll into something ya'll are not.
Be yourself. Don't be sorry. Your a good person as you were.
Look at what John posted. He is always a welcoming person to new people. And always helpful. But if he believes in something then damn it, he states it good or bad. That is John.
Your contributions now will be weighed based on how you think others will judge you. Ya'll are doing it already. And no one has been named "hosts" yet.
You all will no longer be the contributors to the forums that you once were.
Will you still contribute? Yes. But not like you did before this.
Like I said before, this is CW's place. I will abide by whatever they decide. And I will wish all of you the best of luck.
I really mean no ill will.

Then you don't know me. I will continue to post as I unchanged whether or not I decide, in the end, to stay on as a host. And if I do stay on and it gets me fired, so be it. Over my many years, in business, I have learned how to be a leader (bad analogy here I know) and a team member. IOW, put the appropriate hat on at the appropriate time. Straummy has many times in the past stated that he feels he should acts on a forum the way he does in public. Since I have met him in person and talked to him at great length in the phone I can say i believe this to be true of him. I wholeheartedly believe in that approach too. "Bapu", as you all see me here, is who I am in public. Why would/should I change that?
