John T Yeah, Cakewalk need to start meeting their customers half way on this stuff. Hook me up with a helicopter ride around the statue of liberty with Sandra Bullock, and as soon as I get back, I promise I'll come on here and tell you your software sucks. I swear, I'll do this as quickly as possible, you can count on me. John T, do you mind? Me and Ben here are trying to be serious and you roll on in taking the P?

Hey I am not asking for free hardware, I am asking for software, I am an academic, I have freely admitted, I don't own the software (I own Sonar, 2,6,8,Project5 1&2, the very first Pyro and Audio Creator) on numerous occasions, and I don't hide my identity. Dr.Hash ring any bells!!!! I am trying to help understand and further the "Digital Musician's" cause, so much **** is spread on this forum, some by me, that is because I am an "Audio Scientist" as well as an artist, as Lennon said "Give me some truth" "Sometimes you don't know today's answer, till tomorrow" All I am trying to do FBB, is sort this stability issue, Sonar has the best mixing environment and if they continue and they perhaps give us, the user some of the things we want (legacy GUI for one) it is the most flexible of all the DAW's and I have used all the "real" DAW's not just the recorders of DAW's Fruitty Loops anyone. And just so you know, I am not just some whack job academic, I have had music, I have written and performed on three TV shows here in OZ, that must mean I am doing something right, something small, I am very Small, but something right.. Peace Ben

How can anyone talk about a product such as X1 in any negative terms and never used it? I was talking about it early on without having it but I did not go into any conclusions about it until I did get it. Even though I have been opposed to a registered user forum this kind of posting makes me wonder if its not such a bad idea.

I don't think anyone doubts that you have the qualifications you say you have. I think it's more that they are not considered all that remarkable. There are quite a number of people who work with audio professionally on this board.

Yes I have been as ass but sometimes!!!, know this audio breathen, I have almost been expelled from cornflake college because I said "why are we using this rubbish Pro Tools, when Sonar is the bomb" true story, I LOVE THIS PROGRAM, esp after being ****ed up the arse by LOGIC in 2001. As an instrument, Sonar has been the most flexible of all the proper DAW's, VST, we have, DXI, we have, whatever sound card, we can use. You know what it works, if you don't get to elaborate, that's unless you by a Crisco hamper Celeron CPU computer. As I say, take me at my word or mock me, here are my letters BCT MMusTech, please forward yours (nothing to do with you Brandon) Peace

Well I kinda like the interaction with the openness of the forum. I have been on registered users forums and they have a not so friendly manner about them. But I must say I am reconsidering that stance. I get the impression that BenM was banned yet he is still here. I am not sure if that is true but it appears so. The thing is he is wasting the forums time.

actually I don't think X1 was designed on XP at all. i'd reckon it was designed on Win 7 with backward compatability in mind and that's why XP is stated as the minimum requirement. Minimal and optimal are not interchangeable terms. They are however connected terms along the same continuum.

Brandon Ryan [Cakewalk ] It's funny - over the years I've seen this debate over and over. 1) We don't need a visual UI - DOS works just fine. 2) We don't need Win95 - a 16bit OS works just fine. Screw long file names! 2) We don't need XP - Win95 is just fine. 3) We don't need 64-bit or Win7 - a 32-bit OS is just fine. And so it goes... And some are still on DOS3.1!!!!! I've seen that same argument with VAX/VMS as well...quite comical that.

Ah I have got it, you guy's need to read about Allen Klein, Tony Defries and a few of these types. We artists need to bargain, I don't have a hit record but I do have degrees, these degrees say I have certain competency's. I have three HD in my masters and a GPA of 5.5 out of 7 for my masters plus with music on television, it puts me in maybe a c grade category of celebrities, or in this case the Sonar forum, hence my request for an upgrade for "free" but am I asking for free no I want to evaluate it, because I don't believe it is as **** as some are saying (still want my legacy GUI) and I have used and publicised this software for most of my "music technology" life. Doe's this mean, I deserve a free copy, no! but if they can convince me, one of their most ardent dissidents, that it is stable, I will be happy to publicize this, I think my post count is pretty high and I do try to help in my own way and I am sorry if it comes across as arrogant but I will admit when I am wrong. BenMMusTech Hey mudgel, back on topic, cool, hows the wine going? Only really back on topic because I was responding to a post back on page 2 of this thread and forgot to quote it so my post appears out of context with the posts surrounding it. as far as the wine goes. I'm trying no to whine. I was called a pest for my trouble so trying to reform. But it's a whole new ball game for me since the heady days of SONAR X1b. (my bone of contention) This new release is working OK as I've mentioned in other threads. Back to the XP Win 7 debate or whatever it's called. I can't remember how often I had to do a fresh install of XP because eventually that was what was needed to return it to a smoothly functioning operating system. Actually that's what I mean. XP's stability seemed to deteriorate over time as a function of its installation; that's just the way it worked. Even VISTA with SP2 had a perpetual stability to it that XP didn't. That same perpetual stability seems to have been in Win 7 from the start. Win 7 doesn't seem to require any user maintenance. It just seems to perform the same way every time I boot the PC. Until very recently I had a dual boot PC with Win XP and VISTA (x64) SP2 and a laptop running Win 7 x64. both computers are running i7 processors. The previously dual boot PC is now just running Win 7 (x64). I had a chance to make various comparisons between the same hardware infact on the same computer running a range of OS's from XP 32 bit to VISTA and now WIN 7 (x64) and I can conclusively attest to WIN 7 (x64) providing me with the best all round computer experience I've ever had in connection with DAWs. I suppose that's all anecdotal and subjective. To be able to make these subjective conclusions though I had to spend many years learning and gaining experience (I now know that there is far more for me to still learn than I've ever know at any given time). My experience is as follows: I've been using computers since the days of an Adler Alphatronic P2 circa 1979: I've been playing a variety of musical instruments since 8 years of age (now aged 57 years 5 months and 12 days-I want to be precise where I can) I've been exposed to and involved in recording music in big pro studios since I was 14 years of age I've also been producing all sorts of audio material since I got my first 3" reel to reel tape recorder at age 13. I've played with orchestras in venues as big as there are and on my own in wine (not whine) bars. BUT none of this got me any letters after my name connected with any of that experience. I'd never trade the privilege of being afforded all that experience though just for a few letters. I think I waffled on to finally get about as far off topic as I could - which is exactly where I came in. AND I got to boast about all the great times I've had. Does it make me special? Not in my eyes. It's just my experiences, my life.
