Not to be rude.....but: If some of the enhancements talked about in this thread are "on deck and fairly high-priority" or “we plan to offer lanes in the future under the Skylight framework” Why is Cakewalk releasing a new version.....seems to me it would be better to just wait for those improvements and release a huge re-work and wow us all? Or is this something the bean counters came up with to squeeze more sales and/or new customers? If it's the bean counters.....I understand from a business marketing standpoint.

How anyone could **** about an upgrade that costs less than a guitar pedal, for most of us, is beyond me.

I'm just curious....some people really wanted the UI/workflow improvements in the new version, and that's great for them....others really wanted other improvements, that are confirmed not to be present, so they'll have to wait. BTW.....How would you like having to buy 3 guitar pedals to eventually get one complete pedal?

I think it's more like Sonar is CONSTANTLY evolving but the company occasionally has to drive a stake in the ground and give it a name...like Sonar X1 (2,3,4,etc...)

Cakewalk has released plenty of new upgrades/improvements inside the life cycle of individual versions without us having to pay for them. Even three pedals is cheap. I've been around long enough to remember when digital recording would put you back 100k, or a trip to a decent studio was 2k a day for a cheap one. It's all about perspective (and reality, but that's a different subject entirely), and the new upgrade kicks ass from where I'm sitting. It's also a sign that the bakers are listening to the users, and that the company is alive and well. All a bonus in my book. The NAQs* seem to crawl out of the woodwork around release time, and there a complete difference between discussion and useless negativity. *Negative Armchair Quarterback

So stop reciting useless negativity then.....I don't want to argue, I'm actually quite pleased with the look so far....it's just not for me if it's just UI improvements. I know my quick keys quite well, I have several track templates saved with my own Fx chains...just to scratch the surface....the rest to me appears to be just UI improvements......which is FINE! It's a great way to attract new customers as well as please several existing customers that wanted UI/workflow stuff. As another user mentioned on a different thread, it seems like a business plan to move towards a complete re-work, because in all actuality I was unsure where Sonar could go aside from tweaks and bug fixes, because it is the most functional feature packed DAW out there....so this makes comeplete sense.....as how do tweaks and bug fixed attract new customers....BUT: My only question was if the high priority requests stated by many users, on many threads (feature request threads) are slated as in the works, on top of the list, or high priority....it seems like a shame for those people that have been asking for such improvements for quite some time... But hey you can't make everyone happy......me on the other hand, have been happy with the product for quite some time

I don't want to be negative. But I bought 8.5 SE October 7th, and got it on October 15th and am somewhat miffed. For good measure I bought the DimPro/Rapture deal a week later solely because DimProLE's electric pianos just weren't going to work for me - and Rapture's great but I'm a little Spectrasonics-centric so... I've been using Cakewalk sequencers/DAWs since'95 and I thought October was a good time to upgrade, but this is the first time I didn't believe, hear or see that anything was imminent. I bet wrong, but kudos to Cakewalk for keeping it quiet. And am so glad they're back in the game bigtime - the 8.5 release was just worrisome (though great). This is the 1st time I didn't buy the PE and I think this is the first time since Sonar3 that I'm sure I want it. Crud. But this is a happy day. So be happy.

Mod Bod Looks like the FX bin is still pinned to the right side of the Track Pane. I wonder if the audio input friendly naming convention has been changed to allow mono channel naming instead of stereo pairs. +++++++++++1
