Will The New Sonar Change The Clip BACKGROUND Colors?

Having black clips everywhere kinda sux.   Before Sonar X3 you could adjust the background color of a clip, but X3 removed that.   I wish when coloring a track, it would change the BACKGROUND, not the FOREGROUND (notes).

Is this for real???

I think I am starting to remember why I didn't buy X3.

damn straight its for real.   Its hard for me to see the clips... its black on dark grey.  Plus every other DAW has colored clips.

I can change the background color of any clip into any color I want, and I'm using X3e
Just use the inspector

I was told by one of the Cake guys that the background color option has not been changed.

I've been using Panup's Duckbar with X3 and it's made a world of difference.  Of course you cant use the track/buss color feature.  I don't' know if this Duckbar version will work in Sonar 2015 or not.

Please take a screen shot, because that is NOT true (unless you upgraded from Sonar X2)

in a clean install of Sonar X3 you cannot change clip colors automatically. you need to go into the inspector EACH TIME, and then if you combine clips, they go black again.

I am looking for this in the COLOR PREFERENCES!

Unbelievable! Yes there was a change in how X3 handles clip colors BUT! You can still change them by using the Inspector.

It is a little disconcerting, though, that whenever I "bounce to clips" I have to reset the colors because doing so reverts the clip to default colors. That should be fixed.

agreed, or just add it back to the color preferences so they can be defined by track #.

Yes you can manually set colors for each clip individually in the inspector but as has been stated it will revert back to the default when you bounce.  It's also very slow and tedious.  I like my colors associated with track numbers like in 8.5.  If I could at least make the clip backgrounds colored and the waveforms black I'd be good, (set them in preferences and be done with it).  I was so looking forward to the track/bus color feature...

Select all, and change bg color for all tracks in 2 second. I know it's a workaround, but i takes me 2 seconds....

The OP said that bg colors couldn't be changed, and that's just not correct

Yep, you're right.  However some of us really like our BG colors set to track numbers, like S8.5 so we would have to change them individually and of course, re-do when we bounce.

Even Sonar X2 has this capability. It was removed in X3 (probably due to the track colors), but dont know why.

This black on dark grey for me anyway is hard to read.  I also like different colored clips.

The second post (mine) in this thread explains why the new color implementation (track header color = clip foreground color = PRV note color) in X3 is very logical and helpful for me:

http://forum.cakewalk.com/X3c-color-customizations-need-change-to-the-Clip-Backgroung-not-Foregroung-m2924793.aspx

BTW, you can change the Clips pane background colors if you find the black clips hard to identify.

It is a little disconcerting, though, that whenever I "bounce to clips" I have to reset the colors because doing so reverts the clip to default colors. That should be fixed.

I don't think that's a bug, soens. Imagine when you combine two clips that have different foreground/background colors and different names. Should Sonar bring up a dialog box asking you which colors and name the new, bounced clip should inherit? If so, I think it's a feature request. I don't know how many of the other DAWs handle this, but Studio One shows the same behavior as Sonar.

Can you make the Waveform Black so that it is a black waveform on top of the clip color of your choice?

Sure. Since the track header color is linked to the clip foreground (waveform) color, all you need to do is change the track header color to black. But if you don't want the track header to be black (well, it's not really black, it looks dark grey), you need to select all clips in the track and choose black from the Background dropdown in the Clips Properties Inspector. Unfortunately, the waveforms of clips you record in the track after changing this option will still inherit the track header's color, so you'll need to select these clips and change their clip foreground color to black.

I guess no one reads that I already know this but its a terrible solution as the minute you bounce clips, they lose their background color.  I also dont want to do this for every track.
