what about a feature like this we create a snap shot were tracks are all on and we lower the tracks we don't want to hear and then use a midi controller to switch from one snap shot to another on the fly. This would be cool becuase it would allow you to mix while creating music on the fly. This helps in the composition process.

John I would love the ability to print out keybindings. I try to keep the standard keybindings but I have made some modifications. It could be much easier to find a keybinding then it is now. There is a list of all of the keybinable functions somewhere on the internet, a fellow forum member made one last year I think, I'll see if I can locate it Tom Found it http://anythingpeaceful.org/sonar/keybindings/all.html

I've read most of this thread, and offer 100% thumbs up to Eratu (I like what you say and the way you say it. Your Control C, X & V example was perfect) Workflow will be a major issue in the next decade. It will make and break firms. Not just in music tech. but in all areas of computer use. This is because there are two requiremernts every serious dev must deal with: > The noob who wants everything easy on-a-plate with absolutely no brain power required - total intuitively working if you like. > the expert who wants every detailed feature to work as fast as he/she thinks. This is a righteously difficult challenge. Those who succeed will flourish. Those who don't will go under. I don't see much middle ground here. Anyone who thinks serious software inc Sonar is a "done deed" (just a matter of dotting a few i's and crossing t's) is living in denial of everything we've seen for the last 20 odd years of desktop software development. There ... hope I don't sound arrogant - just my crystal ball opinion/two cents. Thank you, Eratu, for starting one of the best software threads I've read anywhere. I hope Cake are listening to you. I think they are.

Exclusive solo Mode with solo Override New Exclusive solo mode forces soloing to one track/bus at a time and prevents tracks and buses from being muted when other tracks/buses are soloed. Just found this looking for exclusive solo. I don't have 8 I have power studio which is 6 and this feature sounds exactly like what I would need to use in order to create a way to switch patches then switch between them using my concept. Thanls for the keybinding stuff it's were I saw this term. Then I searched the forum were I found the first paragraph above. Now if it is controllable by using a midi foot controller through act I will have found the solution to what I need to do with sonar. Has anyone here used this feature yet? if so did you use it to aid you to control your fx that your guitar is being routed to from a foot switch?

The general difficulty in selecting envelopes or nodes... regardless of what selection tool you choose. The fact that envelope tool doesn't seem to make selecting envelopes or nodes any easier but makes it harder to do everything else. The buggy/workaround aspects of clip envelopes when working with layers. The whole envelope management *thing*... it doesn't exist ;-). Envelope copy and paste functionality needs to be streamlined. Am I forgetting anything? :-)

A bump born of sheer frustration. Just wrapped up a project in Cubase x64 and I wish I could have used Sonar for it. But due to workflow issues, it would have taken much longer. :( Let's figure this out, folks! We need to coordinate, unify our voices and get some momentum going at Cakewalk to spend some serious time on workflow issues on the next version of Sonar!

TO eratu Have you sent the letter to Cakewalk already and did you refer them to this thread? Although it took a few sidetracks here and there I think the number of people who have contributed in a rational fashion should be ample evidence of this being a priority request for development. I don't have Cubase but I do have a sore fist from hitting my desk in frustration after spending 2 hours last night fine tuning one of my string tracks and discovered that somewhere along the line I did the famous miss the node and slid the whole track over about 1/32 note. I was working in solo mode and didn't realize it until after I had finished the track and played it back with the rest of the tracks. After I discovered what I had done I moved it back to its proper location but now all of the nodes no longer line up where they should as it occurred part way through the editing process. The more I worked on trying to find the point where I screwed up and move all the nodes in that section the worse it got so I eventually gave up and deleted the entire envelope. So my project tonight is to try to find the patience to redo it all again and maintain the same dedication to perfection I had last night; a tough task any time you have to totally redo what should already have been done. My point after all that venting again is to ensure that they are aware of this thread and the many contributions that loyal Sonar users have made to it. I commend you again for the well laid out thread opener on the topic and the fact that you have written to Cakewalk. Let's just keep the thread at the top until we get someone from Cakewalk to acknowledge that they have seen it. Lorne

I'm waiting to see if the bug actually got fixed before I start telling other people it happened :-) best regards, mike

For the record, I like this non-rant, non-flame, thought-through approach to requesting features & fixes. I think I just don't get the first post of this thread. Okay, workflow. Uh, so... yeah. Workflow. Without being specific it's hard to back that argument up, and then when being specific there's going to be a lot of times where people's preferences differ. I do think SONAR can use some workflow improvements, and even some dedicated workflow tools, but as a sole complaint it's far to vague to rally behind. I think something that would help a lot by doing just a little is standardizing all the menus and dialog boxes. Currently there are so many differences in whether boxes remember last settings or locations, whether they can be wheel scrolled or not, and remembering screen placement. Clean that stuff up and SONAR gains a degree of predictability, which would help my "workflow".

I know it's vague and verbose, and I initially intended it to be light on specific details. There have been so many detailed workflow-related threads I didn't want to get into the weeds. However, there will be an effort to "get specific" and try to build consensus around some tangible workflow-related feature requests. Who knows if it will go anywhere, but I think it's worth trying. I'll be posting soon about it and hope you join us in the effort... specific feature request are needed and more than welcome.

I hope this is in keeping this thread but this is one of my biggest gripes. This is a shot of a MIDI track header. This is a shot of the Track Inspector. If the Inspector had all the widgets from the MIDI track header instead of wasted space I could do this. Why can't they see that the inspector is very good but not as useful as it could be if only they put all the controls in for the track being viewed. This would save tons of resizing the track header to see the widgets in it. Of course the track header could be any size you like and it could stay that way if the Inspector was complete. What is so hard about doing this? Now back to your stuff.
