There is, the same option as the record timing. However if I click OK in the preferences (with or without changing anything) I get an error and then the input and output boxes go blank. Thought it was only if I changed something, but apparently not.

Just unplugged, uninstalled, rebooted, installed, plugged in, rebooted. It now isn't showing an error. It's just wiping the list. Open prefs, its there, close them and re-open, blank list.

For now, unplug everything else USB that you can. Also make sure the TASCAM isn't sharing a hub with other devices. Did you ever delete AUD.ini? Or start SONAR with CTRL-SHIFT?

I dont use a hub and I delete the AUD.ini after each reinstall of the drivers/software. USBs - keyboard, mouse, webcam, wireless phone charger, tascam, USB3 external HDD cable (nothing plugged into it but when I need it, it saves my pulling my PC out). I'll unplug charger and webcam, reinstall, wipe aud.ini and try again with those 2 things unplugged.

After scanning the thread I'm going to toss out a general troubleshooting tip I've learned about "disappearing" audio devices. It may help and it may not. Simple version: Make sure the audio interface's "power" is turned ON and the USB cable is connected BEFORE launching SONAR. In my experience if connected and properly installed Audio and MIDI devices are not appearing in the appropriate SONAR devices areas it is usually because I did not give Windows and the device drivers enough time to fully load before opening SONAR. Because of this SONAR doesn't see the devices when it first opens and thus the devices aren't on the list(s). If I close SONAR, wait a while (or reboot), check my connections and whatnot the devices will appear as expected. So... 1) Boot up and wait a minute 2) Connect/power up your audio/MIDI devices and wait a minute 3) Open SONAR and if you allowed enough time for your devices to get their shiz sorted out then everything should be available Also... another rule of thumb I follow is to ALWAYS use the same USB port on your computer that you installed a device on. So let's say you have 3 USB ports on your system. You fully install your audio interface on USB port 1. ALWAYS plug your interface into that port from now on. If you install a MIDI keyboard on USB port 2 always use port 2 for that device... and so on. It MAY not cause problems if you don't and at this point it may not be relevant but since I've adopted both of these habits I NEVER seem to lose my devices in the SONAR Prefs. Hopefully that shakes something loose. Cheers.

Thought you were talking about external. I have mouse and keyboard plugged into 1 pair. Tascam plugged into pair 2 (was with HDD cable) pair 3 empty (was webcam and phone charger) Opened prefs, check devices listed, check master. both options have tascam in it this time. close it off, go FILE, NEW, get this popup:

Cheers beepster. Sometimes the simple stuff can easily be overlooked and after several hours of facesmashing desk it ends in severe facepalming due to something exactly like that. You're right but unfortunately I was already following that rule of thumb. Even mice can have hissy fits when plugged into a different usb port. Its more that the devices are there at the start but disappear if I try to make a new file or open and close the prefs.

That's a SONAR internal routing thing. It's just saying that your Master Bus is not routed to an external hardware output. Click OK and then in the Console View click the Output dropdown for the Master Bus to see what hardware ouputs are available. If there aren't any then something else has gone screwy (like there are no Outputs selected for the Audio Device in Preferences)

That's actually starting to sound like a bad cable/connection. OR possibly you have processes running on your computer in the background (like an Anti Virus program running in realtime) that are interfering with the device drivers essentially knocking them out sporadically... kind of like a bad cable but with drivers being the cable and some setting/program being the cable jiggler. If that makes sense... lol. The samrter doods would have to help with that second bit but yeah... if possible I'd try another USB cable and or another port if the current port seems sketchy. Good luck.

The run as admin gets chucked around a lot. Its like the have you tried rebooting thing. Its worth a shot I guess but tbh I've never seen it fix anything on an admin account (tried it anyways cause best to be safe XD). Tried different cable, went for my trusty heavy duty one instead of the cheapo that comes with the unit. Still getting the missing audio outputs error.

Definitely sounds like the ASIO driver just isn't loading in Windows for whatever reason. Try downloading the free CEntrance ASIO Latency Tester, and see if it detects the driver: http://centrance.com/downloads/ltu/

Excuse me if this has already been mentioned upthread but perhaps check your Windows audio device panel? Maybe the onboard sound is booting the Tascam offline? Do you happen to have Windows Sounds still enabled and or do you have any other audio tasks going on (like a browser with youtube vids or Win Media Player or anything like that)? Could just be the onboard sound is fighting for priority in which case I would disable the onboard soundcard drivers and make the Tascam the default device for the system. You can change it back and forth whenever you want so if you use the system for other stuff. There are most definitely ways to have both the onboard sound and an external interface live harmoniously on a system but I do all my audio work on a dedicated desktop system so have never even bothered. All audio goes through my Focusrite Scarlett. Just some more random blathering to poke at.

Kinda odd that I needed to register my name/address and phone number for a free download. Not 100% sure if I just click the top one in the list and hit measure? it comes up and says ASIO driver failed to allocate buffers.

I would try some of the other USB ports on the back of the machine to see if there is any change. If you have access to another computer you could try installing everything on that to see if you have the same issue.

After a dozen reboots today XD, nah nothing else accessing my audio. One of the first things I did was disable stuff like discord from starting up on boot. I'm using the tascam for all audio and everything except sonar works. All audio goes out fine, the mic plugged into the unit runs fine. I'll try disabling everything under sound in device manager, reboot and see what happens (fingers crossed for some magic).

(USB 2.0, found on nearly any computer, is used as the interface for the US-2x2. Simply connect the interface to any available USB port to supply plenty of bandwidth, even for multichannel 96k work. (The US-2x2 and US-4x4 are also compatible with USB 3.0 ports.))

Good point. Some USB3 implementations work fine with USB2 devices, others don't so it's hit/miss. OTOH, the OP's other software and Windows itself don't seem to have problems. It might be worth uninstalling LE and trying one of the current demos

I hate to say it but this is also the possibility that SONAR LE simply sucks. I've never used it so I don't know for sure. I also haven't heard anything about LE being updated any time recently. And honestly, it seems whenever someone posts an LE thread the result is never a happy resolution. So yeah... it could just be LE is buggin' out. The paid versions work well at the moment.

Install Ableton Live and try to configure it with the ASIO driver and if it works OK it will prove the interface is running correctly.

IDK about configuring ableton with ASIO, as I say this is all new. I installed it and it auto loaded a demo, I hit play and it works. Not sure if I need to change something or not. As for buying a USB 2.0 card. IDK if I really need it. It wouldn't hurt but if I dont need it (which I shouldn't) its just an extra expense.
