Would love some live help from someone to get my sonar to output audio.
I'm feeling really ripped off already with the audio interface that I brought (Tascam US-2x2), nothing but hassles. Anyway at least the sales guy raved about the software that came with it.... and here I am. I've got all my audio out working except sonar. Starting to feel its a real lemon and I should just give up but surely there must be something somewhere that I have missed that is hidden away in a stupid corner that is preventing any audio out from this software. I generally find the better software is, the harder it is to do something simple. Its always puzzled me why simple things can only be simple in limited software. Before I give up on cakewalk as being over-complicated-for-no-reason-rubbish I want to see if its just me misunderstanding something or missing something and I really would be missing out on a great thing. So who's up for the task? I would really appreciate it whether I get it working or not if someone could spare some time to jump into discord with me and help me out. Thanks in advance to all who take the time to read this and give a suggestion or 2.

What version of Sonar are you using? The LE version that came with the Tascam?

Start here and make sure ASIO is selected Then go here. Uncheck everything in both sections, then select the TASCAM in the output section followed by the TASCAM in the input section Click [Apply], then verify that the TASCAM is set for the Timing Masters The last steps are to make sure that your Master is routed to the TASCAM out and that you have audio in a track that is routed to Master.

Next question, why is it blank and how to I get the tascam unit into this list? Sonar is the only thing that doesn't work right now. The drivers and software for the unit are up to date as the unit is only 1 week old and I installed the drivers/software from the official site then.

The Tascam ASIO audio driver needs to be installed or reinstalled. The SONAR does not see the driver. Windows and audio playback software typically do not use the ASIO driver so this may be why they work and SONAR does not. You could try to repersonalize SONAR by holding the CTRL and SHIFT keys. This will reinitialize the SONAR setup.

Heres why the "jump into discord" thing would be helpful. lol. I downloaded and installed the driver+software package on the official site. If theres a specific thing I need to install to get this to work that isn't on the official site, do you have a link? According to windows device manager its all installed and up to date. This is why I'm getting lost here, everything works except sonar. Maybe that ASIO isn't included in the driver/software available from tascam. IDK here this is out of my depth. *edit* Ctrl+shift still popped up the same error.

I do not have a Tascam device to check but would imagine the download comes with everything. I did not see anything tricky about their download page. Not having first hand experience with the device or manufacturer I will have to defer to those using Tascam interfaces. You might want to add some info about the rest of your hardware and OS.

Thanks so much for your help anyway tho. I do appreciate your time. Seems like its 100% tascam issue here. Also, to get support I have to pay to call them as its long distance and they dont reply to emails. Seems whenever I need something I dont know about and ask for advice instead of learning it all myself, I get screwed. lesson learned, steer clear of tascam/teac

That is a good start. Is the device connected to a USB2 or USB3 port? I assume you have booted the machine since installing the drivers?

AFAIK. It looks like the panel was last updated for winxp. Theres not really any info on anything so setting up is kind of difficult.

Why would you want people to jump in and disagree with you?
Did you install the Tascam Software Mixer?

Its connected to USB3, I dont have any USB2 ports. According to the tascam site its fine on USB3.
where do I find aud.ini? found it in appdata. deleted it, started sonar, same error. I dont understand that disagree with me part? I'm having issues trying to get something that should be simple to work. I installed the software and drivers, so yes I have the mixer. Looks like winxp age and has 0 info about it.

I don't have LE ... the location for my X3 version is at C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer Note that 'AppData' is hidden by default

Discord means disagreement. So "jump into discord" would mean jump in to disagree.
I just noticed on the Tascam site that there were two separate listings under the drivers section, so I was just making sure you had both installed.

ahhhhh got you lol. I meant the program discord, its like teamspeak/ventrilo but better. the driver+settings panel includes everything (AFAIK). Still wondering if the ASIO has been left out and is somewhere else.

BobF delete aud.ini and restart SONAR ...
CTRL+SHIFT while starting LE rewrites aud.ini in the user directory but deleting it would not hurt anything.

I have the Tascam 4x4, which is the same unit with two extra inputs. Make sure you install the file labeled: "US-2x2 & US-4x4 Driver & Settings Panel version 2.01 for Windows - 17.29 MB" That file includes everything you need, including ASIO. Once that is installed properly, you should see it show up in Sonar.

OK so, update. I unplugged everything. reinstalled drivers and software, plugged tascam unit into a different usb port and it appeared in devices in sonar! I selected it in input and output and then set it in the playback and record timing master. When I hit OK this popped up an error and I am now back to square 1. The device list is blank again.

For what it's worth it sounds like the problem is on Tascam's end and not SONAR. I think I would try this process one more time and cross my fingers: 1. Unplug your tascam unit from your computer 2. Uninstall the tascam software 3. Reboot 4. Reinstall tascam software. Plug back in USB. 5. Reboot Good luck to you. Hang tough with this forum and these guys will work hard to get you sorted out. Also, you might post this same problem over in the hardware sections. There are guys that hang out over there that may be able to offer you help too. All the best.

Why exactly would one change that? In 13 years of having a Sonar-based DAW, i've never touched the timing master setting...
