SteveStrummerUK Just out of interest, what is the correct definition for a 'bug'? It seems to me that some of you see a crucial part of such a definition to be that a bug is reproducible. But I experience a 'bug' with the Now Time Marker that isn't 'reproducible' - even on just my system. It doesn't disappear as some have noted, it just fails to move at all when I hit the transport (in Play and Record); the only way I've found to cure this is to switch to the Console View and back again to the Track View. I can't cause this 'bug' and it happens only intermittently. So should this be classified as a bug? Or should we maybe refer to it as a 'glitch'? Or could my system be the cause of the fault? Or maybe I've hit a keyboard shortcut by accident? Edit to clarify - when the NTM fails to move, the project still plays or records correctly. And the problem is nothing to do with the Scroll Lock or Pause/Break buttons. steve, next time this happens try going to the top of the timeline until you see the zoom feature (that little magnifying glass that zooms in) and right click. this is a feature. a tell tale sign of having to switch back and forth between console view and track view to reset it. its a feature where if you make an edit when the timeline is in motion the NTM will freeze to allow you to make edits with out the timeline skipping to the next frame. theres also a way to shut this off under views option in the TV. just give it a shot next time. or to test it out try making an edit in TV or PRV while the transport is in motion, youll see it will still play and record correctly but it wont move. then reset it as explained above.

I am going to look around DAWs when X3 is released. Wouldn't mind giving Samplitude a go. For me, who uses a DAW as a super powerful tape recorder, X2 since the quick fix has been very stable. Like Seth and Brandon said in the webinar- it feels snappier (to me) than X1 ever did. It's certainly less buggy (for me) than my first Sonar: 7. Looking back, that was quite a buggy program (for me). But oddities still abound. Weird things that may not be bugs but don't feel right or inspire confidence. Like when in mixer view sometimes opening pro channel on a buss can cause a crash, and when I slide the buss channels to the right any prochannel modules I have added slide at a different rate to the EQ ProChannel and other modules. WTF? I get the occasionally disappearing nowtime wonderbar too. Hope they add clip gain Nuendo style and steal the Project5 method of adding an audio editor. Who even knows if there will be an X3 or how seriously they feel about people whining on these boards. Probably only a couple of hundred people post here on a weekly basis and may not be representative of the "average" Cakewalk user.

Freddie H Freddie H X2 A-Update--> 2012-18-12...2013-05-27 and still no new B update? There are no excuse that we need to sit and wait for a simple "fix - problems" update so long. I use SONAR X2 in m daily job, a tool for me making music and productions. X2a okay stable but all other DAWs are that too like Cubase, Logic, Samplitude. I wouldn't expect less from a professional DAW program... or isn't SONAR X2 that? Still I have found "bugs" /problems still no one seem to care to fix them at Cakewalk? Cakewalk use to be fast on sending out update not slooooooooooowwwwwww as today. I really like that. Also they use to add new things, listing on the customers. I will soon leave this boat if this pattern continue. Best regards Freddie NO! I will not buy X3 I have had it. I'm looking and thinking of going back to Cubase 7 that has features like stability, VST3 + audio features, fantastic new mixer view use of large project, ICONS, METER, FREE COLOR of TASTE of the program GUI, Control Room, batch, Score notation, video-engine, and support of professional hardware control like EUCON, SSL, Yamaha right out of the box. I love SONAR GUI and Pro channel but the last year its not the same Cakewalk anymore. No color option, no VST3, no listen on customer, fire key members of Cakewalk organization, it seem more less Cakewalk ending their business? Perhaps they aiming to make programs to beginners / toys and "first time" amature segment obviously not the professional user. They seem more interested of putting all effort making Music creator 6, download with Steam when you download your other games... instead of making a update patch B for the professional users.. I just ordered Cubase 7. I haven't even demo it. I have long time experience I know Cubase in and out. I know it going to work perfectly when I get it end of this week. All sweet things that drive me to change from Cubase/Logic to SONAR 6 years ago are now available in Cubase 7 + much more too. Ironically the features I liked in SONAR are all gone today example free color of the GUI? Today Cubase 7 have all things I need and has asked for in Sonar X2 example x64bit support, Icons, color the GUI and black arrange background, automatic clips line up correctly----> no need of resizing and cutting midi clips all day long making them in measurement BAR length like in SONAR today? (what up with that in Cakewalk?) , universal commands like CTR+D = Copy & paste in one go, Flexible mixer-large project, VST3 support, more then 3plugins in FXs bin, More then 2 sends available in Mixer view, smart ---> select only midi clip to make downmix...not clip + audio synth track to get a downmix. Control room, Advance audio editing, Advance Automation even though SONAR X2 new automation work in a breeze. Midi function, Retrospective Record : no take ever gets lost because record mode wasn’t engaged in time, professional hardware control support like AVID, SSL, Yamaha + their own Steinberg controllers. Cubase 7 work with touch screens too... SONAR X2 doesn't even support their own V700 product? I will still have SONAR X2 in my DAW setup but my new work horse will be Cubase 7 x64. Thank you all nice member here that help me over the years with SONAR. without you I haven't made the cross grade 6 years ago. I will still continue to monitor and write in this forum. SONAR is still going strong in my heart, I don't like what has become of Cakewalk last year. I hope they get on right track again. SONAR has the potential to the best DAW on the market if they just listen more on the customers and end-users and stop holing back example VST3, Flexible mixer, Score, ARA, support of all PRO control surfaces, automatic clips line up correctly----> no need of resizing and cutting midi clips all day long making them in measurement BAR length like in SONAR today? Video engine, More advance audio editing, better meter and meter visibility, long faders... Best Regards Freddie

The thing about Sonar has always been the thick lines compared to MAC or cross-platform apps. I always though thins lines look more precision. Someone once called it "cartoonish". I think that's an over statement but you get the idea. Just my opinion.

Just for curiosity i have seen the HD jpeg of the Cubase 7 mixer and compared to Sonar you see all the little definition of the meters and faders.Sonar have an awesome Emu SSL and Sat GUI in Pro channel and Cubase has four little leds to check the drive signal. When i mixing a big prj in Sonar i think to use real hardware....Cubase is like a plastic sensation.Best.

everyone is different but be prepared, my old guitar player called me last weekend asking me me about x2 and how I like it, he had just bought Cubase 7 and didn't like it, wants to move to something else. he said that has bugs, go figure. he downloaded the sonar 30 day trial. to be fair, I haven't heard back from him yet, so im not about to say,.he loves x2. I don't know yet. but the story goes, grass always look greener on someone else's lawn. just like after 10 years of marriage, the eye will wonder. don't mean you want it, just means it looks better on the outside. my advise is go try it. spend your money and go try it, see what you think you may like it. you may not. my experience has been ive enjoyed features on other daws and said, wow this is awesome. but when I go to grab a simple tool ive used for years in sonar, its not there. so its a trade off. also be prepared to be sitting there in 3 years complaining about your new daw. its a fact of life. ive done it too. but ive settled in with sonar and im finding it productive. sure there's still times now I find something that terribly annoys the snot out of me. but you know what, I expect it. I use my daw 5-7 hours a day from 6am -3pm. I expect to see things in the hours I use it. but im never stopped in my tracks, sonar is not unsable as some claim. when I get to the point or if it comes the day I find sonar not being productive, you wont even hear from me anymore, ill be gone to a new daw, no goodbyes here. just later !

They are not accurate, or that are accurate for one partcular study on on piece of software. However the four catagories are spot on. In my experience, (I am not talking about Sonar or any other DAW) the second one is the major factor. The number of reported "bugs" that can be attributed to the first three on the list far exceeds number of actual cases of the software not preforming as designed.

chefmike8888 Jlien X GIM Productions The Cubase's GUI (especially the mixer)is done on Pokemon style +1 to the Cubase looks like Playschool designed the GUI thing. lol Mike That's the beauty with Cubase 7. You can color it to own liking + faders and all buttons. You can color the GUI interface in any color RGB scale. I will go with a dark arrange background and more dark bluish mixer not shown in that picture . Check this video how the interface can look like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmPWiA7tRX8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6ZILLBcVNs Video: Cubase 7.0.0- The GUI and mixer page has been update to the better since that release still nice interface. I think you get idea. Today update is 7.0.4- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhmBPayocVg

GIM Productions Sorry Freddie....I am very satysfied with Sonar X2 Pro,i don't wanna talk of tech stuff but....The Cubase's GUI (especially the mixer)is done on Pokemon style......please....How much does to salary the head of the graphics?????Best I'm glad you like SONAR X2. I'm not saying SONAR X2 is bad either. I just feel that Cakewalk - support are not there, no interest of making new things. I also need more functions and features like VST3, Better mixer in scale of large project, Advance automation, MIDI Function, Audio editing etc.. not included in SONAR X2. We all know how "takelanes" work in SONAR X2... Have you seen "takelanes" and comping made in Cubase 7? Sweet! This video is in Cubase 6.5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1wJCvjPsNA Check out making vocal harmonies. in Cubase 7. I have Melodyne too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTn0LLmVFzY

bobgassert A friend of mine who uses Pro Tools was looking over my shoulder the other day and commented how clear and detailed the Graphics on Sonar X2 was ... He tells me all the time that the only reason he uses Pro tools was .. That was what he learned on in College Agree. The GUI of SONAR X2 is just sweet. One of the best in the industry. Not the color skin though. Its pity that they locked all the colors and have a whole setting page of COLOR that doing nothing in "Preference"? That also show the lack of interest not taking away the settings that don't work in "preference" either. A shown of negligence. Same goes with other settings.

Freddie H X2 A-Update--> 2012-18-12...2013-06-04 and still no new B update? Best regards Freddie Without to speculate, at the present time 2013-06-04 there has not been a single new update of SONAR X2 for over half year / 6month? No official response from Cakewalk or any sign of interest of holing on to their customers... Best Regards Freddie

Freddie H We all know how "takelanes" work in SONAR X2... This actually looks beautiful (although the even numbers a missing like Studio One and the buttons on the strips aren't placed very neatly). Well, I have no comments to make on Cubase because I've never used it, but it must be a great daw because many users use it (just like any other daws). What I don't like about Sonar's GUI is that the Control Bar and the console strips (wide mode) are a little too big for my laptop. Also, the background text color of track names can't be changed. Anyway, if you're happy with Cubase 7, that's great. Congratulations! But if one day you want to come back to Sonar, don't hesitate. We'll give you a warm "Welcome back, Freddie!" (if we're still here) Just be careful not to lose your iLok. I'll be careful not to lose mine for Nexus. Best wishes

Hi Freddie I haven't been around for a while as I too have left " sonar-land " - but I have stayed with StudioOne - my reasons were a bit different and built up over time:- - Hardware Control -> ACT is the worst most un-user friendly tool in the history of DAW - from memory it was first in Sonar 4 [ or thereabout ] and has had the sum total of absolutely no improvements since then .... seriously, for those of you that don't believe me, d/l the S1 demo, spend approx. 90 seconds reading the Control Link how-to and then use it ... you will literally cry with joy - the increasing " propriatization " of tools ie: Pro Channel [ and some other EFX ] are deliberately not available as a VST so controlling them in any sensible / easy / quick way is impossible - the Roland buy-out has not improved CW's products - as Roland always has done and always will do - they " orphan " their own products in record time - the poor people who jumped on the VS700 with Sonar 8 .... then in no time X1 comes out and the VS700 surface is effectively abandoned .... that takes some serious disdain for your clients .... Rolands business model has always been " develop-make-sell-orphan " in as short and profitable a time as possible - the audio engine .... damn this was annoying ....... up to Sonar 8.5.3 the audio engine got better .... heaps better ..... then with X1 something very wrong / bad happened ... rather than re-write from the ground up for the new GUI sub-system they just bolted-on the new GUI to the old foundation .... result ..... the unmitigated disaster that was X1 .... and that has only barley improved with X2 - gapless audio engine .... once you use it, you will never go back .... CW should be embarrassed about this ....enough said - key people seem to no longer be here [ CW ] but either gone or absorbed by Roland ..... I bailed about 7 / 8 months ago and come back from time to time and this forum has become a CW-free zone ... like everything else, you should only ever judge a company by what they do, not what they say ...... and in the last 6 - 8 months there has been neither. My new DAW is far from perfect ... it too has many, many issues ........ in terms of bells and whistles, Sonar leaves it in the dust .... but for sheer rock solid performance and user-friendliness its no contest. Tim
