Those of us with broadband are paying $40-50 per month for it. A bit expensive. I pay €20 for a 22Mb/s glassfiber connection.

I was in a couple of days ago. Such a great deal considering what you get compared to the price of some stand alone plugs most have purchased for that price and higher...

Bub But for the 90% of us who don't have broadband ... we are punished by not being able to cash in on the deal at all even if we wanted to ... or we get slammed an extra $30 bucks to get the DVD's ... and still can't get the strings. far less than that now , 90% is a big exaggeration. I'd say it's 10-20% perhaps that are still on dial up or slow DSL / broadband.. even when I was in rural Ireland recently they had a decent enough connection.. they had errm sent over beacons , either sat or radio. forget which. more expensive , but that way they don't have to put down the cable. I can understand in Oz and NZ that it's capped due to having to travel so far, but still most uni's have had very fast connections for years, (JANET in the UK) .. so if you know someone going to a uni, get them to get it for you :)

I knew that eventually I was going to do it so I just exercised that option to do so early!. I always get the DVD's as well cause it makes for a better install over here. Will get the string download later when the servers settle down. Will install X2 later after all the bug nosie quiets down and a new patch surfaces.... But, I do love my new cake releases........wouldn't miss it for the world....... Just saying.

Alegria You don't have a Cakewalk coffee mug either? THEY SELL COFFE MUGS.....cool, Actually I knew they sold coffee mugs but I did not buy one because their coffee mugs only use VST 2.4 and they are not VST 3.0. compatible. I guess I will pick some other mug to put my coffee in.

Yep, I ordered it too. Already tried out the DSF strings, and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and variety there. Previous to that I had ordered the DSF Steinway package (got it for $80 instead of $100), but I absolutely hated it. I even like my True Piano Amber better, plus that doesn't take so long to load the samples. But now that I have Pianoteq (physically modelled piano VST) I'm using that on everything and it's sweet. So anyway, X2 looks like a nice improvement for a minimal investment. I expect that it will be available for download by Sept. 30th.

Beepster hmm... this might max out my bandwidth limit. How big is all this gonna be? Well the DSF Strings file is 1.3GB. The X1 download totalled just short of 15GB - I can't see X2 being any smaller.

@Luteman... I could see that potentially maxing me out. Maybe I can time it so I snag the first couple of download packs before the end of the month and then when my new monthly bandwidth clock starts ticking download the rest. I've only gone over once and that was when I was downloading audio programs. Maybe it'll be fine. The stupid ISP caps me at 75GB a month and then charges a ridiculous amount for every gig above that.

You won't need to d/l the full 15GB to start using X2 right away. Just d/l the SONAR_X2_PRODUCER (and maybe the README and Docs) files ~6GB and you can get started.

@Beepster - my stupid ISP caps me at 10GB/month because I'm too cheap to get a bigger package :-) Thank heavens for unlimited download at work . . . and the miracle that is a memory stick!

@scook... I don't even really want to jump into working with X2 right away anyway. I just want to snag the downloads and have them ready to go when I see what the buzz is on here. It'll also give me a chance to wrap my brain around any changes. I'll just have to see what happens but I'd imagine if they release it the very last day of Sept. my plan probably won't work so well due to heavy server demand and my own weird timing.

@Luteman... 10GB?! OMG that is horrendous. I hover around 15 on my REALLY light months and light to me is no downloads at all. Just poking around forums and streaming low def vids. They should bloody well transfer those download GBs month to month. I friggen' paid for them. God I hate the media moguls here.

Probably a good idea. When you get your d/l link, you can get the manual separately and checkout the "What's New in X2" section. The links will be your account for you to access at your leisure.

Yeah... I figure it'll take a couple a months for the dust to settle. I really REALLY want to make use of some of the new features in it though. Hopefully everyone's installs go well and the bugs are limited to weird obscure power user crud that won't affect me. If that's the case I'll install and run X2 alongside X1 (which I was told I could do) until I'm comfortable enough to plunge right in.

Yes parallel installation (i.e. leaving X1 on you machine and installing X2) is the safe and recommend approach.

Got to pay an extra $20 or so from the lowest of $50 ish to actually get something reliable that doesn't drop out every 2 seconds... It's fast enough, but does have a tenancy to hang half way through long downloads so the more small packets it is broken into, the better. As for the upgrade, my credit card says "NO!" But I say "depends on more reviews of the strings pack first". Spill the beans on whether of not the strings are worth the upgrade now!!!! So far it's looking like a yes, but I think I'll give it a week or two for some more reviews to come up...
