Alright, it's done. I still think it ain't right I paid $200 more than the LATE adopters (yes... those who hopped on the free upgrade deal are late X1 adopters, not early X2 adopters). I only got my X1 Suite in May. C'mon boys... give me a box or give me Pyro or a book or SOMETHING! $200 is a lot of cash to me. :-/

But for the 90% of us who don't have broadband ... we are punished by not being able to cash in on the deal at all even if we wanted to ... or we get slammed an extra $30 bucks to get the DVD's ... and still can't get the strings.
far less than that now , 90% is a big exaggeration. I'd say it's 10-20% perhaps that are still on dial up or slow DSL / broadband..  even when I was in rural Ireland recently they had a decent enough connection.. they had errm sent over beacons , either sat or radio. forget which. more expensive , but that way they don't have to put down the cable.

I can understand in Oz and NZ that it's capped due to having to travel so far, but still

most uni's have had very fast connections for years, (JANET in the UK) .. so if you know someone going to a uni, get them to get it for you :)
I just checked and yes, it has improved in the U.S. For a 20MB connection roughly 40% have availability to it, then it drops drastically the higher the DL speed. The lower the DL speed, the more people have it, but that includes wireless, slow DSL, and dialup, which is garbage for downloading. And it was just availability, not how many people actually had it. A quick search on the net will link you to the PDF.

If I had a fast enough connection I would jump on board ... I like Dim Pro ... you just have to remember to freeze it, which is a good idea with any synth IMO.

I wish I did still have a connection at Iowa State University but I don't anymore. :(

Like I said, the numbers have gotten better, but not really by a lot. The vast majority of people still don't have high speed broadband that can handle such a big download, especially without violating their FUP. I'm limited to 5GB a month so even if I attempted it, I would be shut down halfway through the DL. And let me tell ya, you'd have to have the patients of Job to hit the 5GB mark on a 3G wireless connection. I can't even watch a 3 minute low res vid on youtube ... I have to download it and use a download manager, then watch it. It sucks. And it looks like where I'm moving outside of Kansas City is going to be the same way ... I can't believe it. No DSL, No cable, just dial up and 3G wireless. :( I was really looking forward to collaborating with some folks here ... won't happen now. :(

Those of us with broadband are paying $40-50 per month for it.
I'd pay $50 a month for broadband if it was available where I lived ... that's the point though ... it's still not available in a lot of places ... and not all broadband is going to be able to handle a 10+GB download either, so just because you have broadband, it doesn't mean you'll be able to DL it.

So now I've got some new s/n's for Dimension Pro and Rapture on my account that weren't there before on top of my X2 number. I saw someone refer to this earlier. So do we know are these updates or upgrades to full versions or wassup? I'm really not sure if I had the full versions of either with the Suite because I haven't really used that stuff yet.

Full versions. You already have the full DimPro but you will want to d/l Rapture. That will be new for you.

That's sucky.. Are there any satellite options available? Or are they super expensive?

Might even qualify for "low-cost" satellite via the U.S. Recovery Act but it will be around 1.5mb usage capped starting @ $40-50.

Rapture LE shipped with X1. Unless you bought the full version or it came in special promo bundle you only have the LE version.

But the Suite didn't give me the full version of Rapture I'm assuming... and now I get the full version. Correct? And DimPro was a full version when purchasing X1 Suite? Sorry... like I said, this crap is confusing to me especially when I don't even know what the heck half this stuff is. I was looking at PC modules earlier to figure what I already had and the only thing I DO have at the moment that came with the suite that doesn't come with Expanded was that expander/gate dealymabob. Now gotta figure out if I'll be getting any new stuff with X2 because I think I'd like the Concrete limiter... so I was looking at the module pack... but it has the expander/gate in it... which I already have... and... *head asplode*

I dunno to be honest. I got bored with what I was using.

I gotta come up with some new pics. :)

X1 Producer came with Full DimPro, z3ta1.5, Rapture LE and a bunch of other synths/fx. The Suite added all the Producer Expanded stuff/ PC Expander/Gate and z3ta+2.
X2 is the first version of SONAR with full Rapture.

I've ordered it too. R - mix looks the business. Gonna watch the webinar on youtube in dribs and drabs in between Breaking bad episodes ;-) The Dimension strings are downloaded, not installed yet. I'll download all the files, then back them up on DVD in my X! box along with all the patches, anderton vids, pc modules etc. I don't need no more steeenking boxes!

Please listen to my band's new (post-prog rock?!) songs at www.reclaimmusic.com all produced using sonar X1!!

Thanks again, scook. I'm really itching on this Concrete Limiter I think now. I was watching the promo and it seems to do something I've always sucked at... which is draw out the bottom to bottom mid range of a mix. I don't know if it's my guitar ears or what but I can NAIL searing guitar tones and screecher vox but that bottom always ends up lacking or muddy no matter what I do. There's gotta be something in my toolkit already or some tricks I need to learn to get that bowel churning sound but darned if I know what it is. Seems like a useful button to have... but it's an $80 button. :-(

Here's a free lesson for you, the PC modules have gone on sale a couple of times times already. Pay retail if you can't wait but don't grumble when they drop the price by 50%.

Tried that, couldn't get it, but I can't remember why. Something about there was high speed available in the zip code I lived in or something like that. The phone company tells me I'm 1.5 miles too far outside of town to get DSL. Doh! :)

It's extremely expensive to get broadband through satellite. And they throttle you down if you don't follow their FUP. I can get cheaper satellite, but it's no better than my 3G wireless thingy I have.

One of these days I'll end up somewhere that I can get high speed. Actually, in Kansas ... they have something going on now called Gigabit IIRC. Basically, you click on a file to download it, and it's on your computer at around the same speed as file transfers from a thumb drive to your hard drive. It's 100 times faster than the fastest broadband available now. Here's the catch ........ you have to petition everyone in your neighborhood and get them to sign a contract saying they will sign up for the service. THEN ... once they get a commitment from a certain percentage of the neighborhood, they run the fiber optic cable to everyone's house. They are offering a really good deal on it ... KC was the first city to have it ... depending on how well it does here, they are going to offer it in more cities. Can you imagine that speed?

You are right about the cost. The Gigabit sounds sweet. Yea I can imagine the speed, I used to work in a telecom IT department.

Australia is making an effort to move forward on the broadband scale with this:

http://www.nbn.gov.au/about-the-nbn/what-is-the-nbn/

Estimating peaks of 12 Mb/s on the 7% of the country who will need satellite, but everyone else gets a connection of 1000Mbps. ADSL2+ is capable of a theoretical 24 Mbps I think so pretty exciting! So basically the same speeds that your Google link claims. But this is supposed to eventually be rolled out across Australia for everyone! Pretty cool. Australia is big but the population is pretty much centred around certain spots so this kind of thing is relatively easy compared to a similar project in the states where there are just people EVERYWHERE! The cost to do the whole US would be insane...

Darnit... how do I sign up for the Cake newsletters? I think I foolishly unclicked that when I first registered (I don't get promo emails) and now I don't see a way to switch it back. Also I guess I have to wait for my DimPro and Rapture links. Got the DSF thingie fine though.

@scook... Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to. I figured that would be under an edit profile section or something but the account page doesn't seem to have that option. Seriously if Cake needs some web developers for this type of stuff I know folks in that field looking for work. Mind you this forum is likely filled with dudes who could do that kind of thing and would probably do it just for coffee mugs and bumper stickers.

You might be talking to one now. :)
I checked my own account before giving up and just posted the csr link.
They had a real problem with their mailing lists a few years back, hopefully they have got it sorted out.
They generate a quite a bit of promo material. Since you already bought X2 I do not believe they will email you the X2 promos but you will get monthly sale stuff.
BTW, until you get on the newsletter you might want to periodically check the store for the monthly specials.
