My post the other day was just to update.    I've ordered new monitors and a new interface.   When I get them set up I will check back.

As for clipping, I never said I was clipping, because I don't believe I am.

Thanks!
Greg

I think that's part of my point actually; it's a little unclear what is happening because you say things sound distorted and digital clipping is one form of distortion. Without hearing what's going on you will get a lot of advice that doesn't address the issue.

Thanks for the updates Greg. I think rehashing this is sort of moot until you have a new interface up and running (so much of what you have said points to A/D issues with your old interface).

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Hi Greg,

If you're 100% sure nothing is clipping (either prior to or) the A/D, then the only logical explanation is the audio interface is defective.  If you zoom in on the waveform, are the peaks "shaved off" (appear flat)?
If so, that's a clipped waveform.  The front end or A/D would be the culprit.

If you have a sine wave generator, you could record that... and see very clearly if the peaks are shaved off (clipped).

Best Regards,

Jim Roseberry

mettelus:  Agreed.

Hi Jim -
I have gone over and over everything to see if anything is clipping, and I can't find a thing.  On page 4 of this thread I posted a shot of the audio wave, and some parts look a little shaved off.
I ordered a new interface because I've exhausted my efforts to find the issue  (and I appreciate everyone's help).   A new interface will show whether it's the Quad Capture or not.

Thanks!
Greg

Tried the new Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, and the problem right now doesn't seem to be there.   Hopefully it will continue to work fine.
Thanks for everyone's input!   I really appreciated it!

YAY!!!!!!

I hope that was the cause of it all, and that it remains gone forever.  You did a GREAT job of hanging in there.

Awesome! I have been anxiously awaiting to know the result. I am glad it is resolved for you.

I "believe" the Scarlett MixControl software is pretty much the same as that for the Saffire. Here is a nice tutorial that can help you set that up fairly quickly - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1avPHhiGw8

Good news!

Now, you can get on with making music. The Quad-capture and Octa-capture usually have good reports. It unfortunate your unit was, perhaps, defective. How's the warranty for it? Maybe, you can get a replacement that works good.

Thomas - Yeah, I haven't recorded anything for over a month.
I think my Quad Capture is about 2 years old, if not more.   So I'm pretty sure the warranty has expired.
The Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 seems to be fine so far, so I'm happy with it.

Thanks!

Re: CPU issues SOLVED 2015/06/04 17:12:42 (permalink)
Just thought I would update this thread.  I believe I found the solution to my problem.   I went through 2 computers. At the beginning with each computer, everything sounded fine - until I deleted the Sonar picture cache.
I now have a new computer and have not deleted the picture cache - and everything is fine.

Did you setup your Quad capture correctly for guitar with Hi-Z (input 1 only) ON and phantom power OFF and did you configure the gain with autosense or manually?
With autosense you really shouldn't get distortion.
