***The Sonar 8.5.1 Master Bug Thread***
Sup guys! As the title suggests, I'm openning this thread so that we all have a place to report new found issues in the new version of Sonar. This way we can also share possible solutions/work-arounds we can use until a new patch is released by Cakewalk. Of course, remember to report any found issues directly to Cakewalk via this form once they have been confirmed: http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/ProblemReporter/ I'll be updating this thread as new information arises. Hope we can all help each other out here. Thanks in advanced! REPORTED BUGS - Sonar MIDI Bugs - CWBRN-1336

Hey Jose! Good idea here...thanks for posting this. Hope you're doing ok man. :) I found a bug that was in 8.3.1 that's still not fixed in this one. Punch out: If arm on the fly is enabled via record options for me, I get a gap at the end of my punch out. If arm on the fly is disabled, no gap at the end of the punch. I reported this problem to TS in the last version and supplied a video to show the gap in the punch out. Punch in is fine, it's coming out that gaps for me. As soon as arm on the fly is disabled, it's perfect. To make it happen: Make sure arm while playback is enabled in record options. Record a little something using sound on sound, then set up your punch points and switch to "overwrite". Record the track and you'll notice when it punches you out, there will be a gap between your new and old clip. Click undo, go to record options and disable arm during playing ability and recut your punch. You'll notice there will be no gap at the end of the punch out. A few guys claimed they didn't experience this problem in 8.3.1, yet a few others had this problem. I reported it and was told there were a few machines running at tha Cake factory that have this issue fixed but we wouldn't see a fix for it IF there was a patch after 8.3.1. Other than that, a few random drop-outs that I've never experienced before. That's one thing I NEVER get...and it happened to me recording a track of guitar while 1 stereo backing track was playing. No plugs, no nothing. Figured it was just a hiccup, but it happened 2 more times. Cpu and disc meter were both reading 0. I'll keep an eye on this one. Didn't seem to do it in any large projects so that's a good sign...not sure what may have caused it to drop on me with a stereo track playing and recording a mono with no plugs being used. That redraw after recording is definitely a strange one too. I've not altered any video settings and have dumped my pic cache. It hardly had anything in it to begin with. Same slow motion redraws. They draw instantly in 8.3.1 for me. That's all I got for now.

Is the metronome bug resolved in 8.5.1? If you do a search; 'metronome' there's been a lot of discussions about it dating back long ago up till recently. Surely something as basic as the metronome should be considered a very important and essential feature and thereby function easily and without any issue whatsoever. Sadly there are enough threads about the metronome, so I don't want to hear the tiresome old 'workarounds' such as using punch in/out and creating ones own click track using for example hi-hats from session drummer or whatever.

Greetings Everyone, SONAR 8.5 has been added to the feature request and Windows 7 has been added to the problem report form. I know I often sound like a broken record on this topic, but please please please be sure you are telling us about any issues you find or features you would like to see there as well. It is the only way to be 100% sure that we are aware of it. Problem Report Form Feature Request Form Thanks,

I started to do a problem report last night but I was going to have to get out the SN and type that all in so I opted to wait a bit. It would be really helpful if Cake would fine a way to allow us to creat a profile that had all the pertinent os, hardware and sonar version info in it so that when we use the reporter it could be done more quickly. Just my opinion.

Hey guys, I just want to clarify something. Most of these bugs/issues have not been confirmed yet, and might not be actual bugs. For example, in the first thread I linked (Sonar 8.5.1 Installation Issues), one person had a problem installing Sonar 8.5.1 on top of his existing Sonar 8 installation while another person just posted he was able to do so just fine. The V-Vocal MIDI to Pitch inaccuracies have been a problem for me since it came out in Sonar 7, so that's certainly not new in 8.5.1. However, I can confirm the EZDrummer/Superior sample issues, which have also been confirmed by others. I haven't yet confirmed the SD3 bitmap issue yet (will do that in a minute). As far as the settings migration problem, I only had to change my Project Files folder cause it wasn't pointing to the correct one, everything else (minus the toolbars not migrating, which have been a problem since I can remember) got migrated just fine. Anyways, just wanted to say that cause I didn't mean to create this thread to scare anyone from upgrading. So far I haven't had any big issues with the exception of the Superior Drummer 2 one, which works fine in Sonar 8.3.1 x86. The problem seems to be specific to the 64 bit version of Sonar 8.5.1. Otherwise, this is a great update as far as I can tell. Take care!

Hey Danny, Just tried to reproduce a few of the issues mentioned by you and so far everything is working fine here. First, I tried openning and closing projects to see if the waveforms would draw correctly and they do. Then, I started recording a few takes and they all draw correctly too. Finally, I tried the punch out thing, following all the steps provided by you exactly as you described, and I have no issues with that either. IOW, there are no gaps at the end of the punch points for me. However, I think I know why you're seeing this. I believe you haven't adjusted your manual offset under Options::Audio::Advanaced Tab. The process on how to fix this is better described here in this thread: http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=1302373 (Post #20) HTH

Some installation problems may be caused by failing to uncheck the "use defaults" option on the last dialog, where it copies settings from a selected previous SONAR install. I don't remember the exact wording and wish I'd taken a screenshot, but when it came up I thought "whoa, that's gonna cause some people problems if they don't read the prompts!". If you accept the default, your settings will not be copied over from the previous SONAR install, and you'll be left wondering where your stuff is!
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

TRACK ICON PROBLEMS: I noticed that for the customized "normal" project template that loaded fine with Track and Bus Icons in Sonar 8.3.1, in 8.5 in the Track View all I get are either a picture of a wave form or three arrows. BUT, everything is normal in the Console View. Same thing happens when I import a Track Template. Hmmmmm.

Jose7822 Middleman If anyone confirms JBridge works with EZ & Superior in 64 bit Sonar, please post. Yes, Superior 2 works using JBridge. This thing looks nice by the way, better than Bitbridge actually. @ gtgarner, Try using JBridge, it might work for you. I'll definitely try that. Thanks. All I have to do now is - find out what JBridge is.

Muting all or selected tracks in a folder then archiving/ un-archiving folder results in unmuting all the tracks in the folder.
