Brian Walton I understand your point and argument, but also remember WE paid for those 3rd party plugins as part of the package cost for Sonar Platinum. Those plugins are a major reason why it cost more than say Artist. It isn't like they were free to us because we use Cakewalk, we paid for them as part of the premium package.
your / my contract is with cakewalk.. their deal with vendors is like raw materials.. much like if you had an issue with your house, you'd go back to the builder of it.. not the maker of the bricks. I'm sure they would want to offer you something to upgrade etc. taking into account you have that item.. but it's much like other vendors and LE and CE versions, they are just tasters to get you to buy the big meal (with extra fries) to the OP... measured approach, makes a lot more sense. Larry posted this elsewhere. is that relevant ? https://www.overloud.com/news/overloud-welcomes-cakewalk-customers

dubdisciple I think most likely scenario is offer of reduced upgrade to stand alone product. It would seem odd for them to devote manhours to unlocking programs for free. Very cool if they did but unlikely.
Not many man hours would be required. They were the ones who put lock in, and it would probably take one of their coders 10 minutes to comment it out and recompile. A more likely roadblock is their licensing agreement with Cakewalk, from which they'd have to negotiate a waiver. I'd think Overloud would have a strong motivation to do this, given that they won't be seeing any more revenue from Cakewalk. This would be a way to recoup some of their losses. Gibson, OTOH, is not likely to tear up any agreements until their lawyers have had their say. {EDIT}Beagle just posted this link in the Software forum: http://www.overloud.com/news/overloud-welcomes-cakewalk-customersThey are offering free unlock codes to Cakewalk customers!

With a vendor like Overloud doing this, it puts pressure on Gibson to give us the codes to keep SONAR running if CCC goes down. I'm probably going to buy Studio One Pro, but I'd still like to be able to use some Cakewalk plugs, and get into old .bun files from 2002.

Thanks! I just fixed and followed the link, then used the instuctions and sent them the requested info... Now I wait!

Wed, 11/29/2017 - 12:00 Here at Overloud we heard the news about the closing of Cakewalk. We have been collaborating with Cakewalk employees for a long time to develop Sonar special versions of our plugins. And we are very sorry to hear about this sudden closing of the company, as we know that many of the guys there have now lost their job. We know that this is a bad news for customers too, for their DAWs stopping its development and technological growth. As plugin developers we are side by side with Sonar customers who invested their resources in this DAW solution which sadly inevitably will be going to disappear. So we are unlocking the Cakewalk custom version of our products: TH3 Cakewalk, BREVERB Cakewalk and REmatrix Solo, to let them run unconstrained into other DAWs. Each Sonar registered customer will be eligible to unlock the above three plugins to the unconstrained version, for free. We are sure that, as a Sonar customer, you will take advantage of this opportunity which will grant you to continue to use the same plugins in a new DAW. At same time, we decided to extend this welcome offer by also including special prices to upgrade these plugins to our full versions: Upgrade from TH3 Cakewalk to TH3 Full: €/$ 119 Upgrade from BREVERB 2 Cakewalk to BREVERB 2 Full: €/$ 99 Upgrade from REmatrix Solo to REmatrix Full: €/$ 129 Upgrade from Cakewalk Tape and Console Emulator to Gem TAPEDESK: €/$99
HOW TO RECEIVE YOUR FREE UNLOCK CODESSubmit one of the following three proof of purchase to welcome@overloud.com METHOD 1 Log into your Cakewalk account and take a picture of the Cakewalk Command Center page showing your email address (or the Cakewalk username) and your serial number, like this
METHOD 2 Open Sonar and take a screenshot of the “about” screen showing your serial number, like this
METHOD 3 Scan a copy of your Sonar sales receipt. In case you have purchased Sonar from an online retailer, a copy of the email receipt is fine. Once you have gathered one of the three above proof of purchase, you can submit it by email to welcome@overloud.com Within three business days (our offices are closed during the weekend) we'll send you the serial numbers to unlock your current plugins as well as the coupon code for the welcome offer.

Anderton Nice one Craig. Thanks.
AT But to expect them to give you their product for free because of Cakewalk's bad business decisions is a bit much. It would be pretty to think so, but that is not usually the way the world works.
I'm porting the Gibson Bass Expansion Pack to Presence XT (the sampler included in Studio One Pro), and have asked whether PreSonus would be willing to give it free to Cakewalk users who had bought the version for Rapture. They agreed that it would be the right thing to do.
