With all due respect Jay - I would hardly call what has taken place here "whinning" - Most everyone here knew that EVENTUALLY they would put the the thing up... but almost a full year to get a .dll (Which I personally will hold comment on until I see and taste) after what seems like mountains of personal communications from several people in this thread. The least of my (and probably anyone else using this interface at this point ) worries is compatability with S7.

If there is one lesson I have learned with this one - "Look before you leap" will forever be the motto around here when it comes to this particular piece of equipment.

As far as the plug in goes - I will be VERY happy if it indeed does "all but resolve this issue" but you'll have to excuse me if I don't put my Tascam (service- not hardware) pom poms on. If I ran my business this way I would'nt have a customer base or a career for that matter. YMMV

Here's hoping we are finally done with this .............

Wow! this is great news!

My brothers and I thank everyone who got the ball rolling: DK, Jay Stevens, Manthe, dcasey, hockeyJx, ChonoT52 (and everyone else in the Forum who has written Tascam), Brian at Frontier, Mr. Jackson at Tascam, Tascam, and Cakewalk for getting it done. We hope it works great! After studying a little Java in college, let us tell you , the programmers at Frontier and Tascam worked very hard! Great work Frontier Brainiacs

We have asked Mr. Jackson to be Beta testers, as well. I bet everyone in the forum would want to be Beta testers :-)

In our opinion, FW-1884 is still the BEST all in one Interface/DAW Controller/Midi interface on the market. This is true especially if you intend to use Gigastudio with Sonar as my brothers and I will ( GSIF 2.0 drivers).

I hope Tascam and Cakewalk appreciate how loyal we Sonar and FW-1884 users are to their products: after more than one year we all kept the faith that they wouldn't abandon us. Thank you Tascam, Cakewalk, Frontier, and all the Fw-1884 fanatics! It came just in time just in time for our new Fall semester at ASU.

Continued success for all,

Joseph, and Jaye C Rosenstock

I wonder if we'll see an all around update to the 1884.
Possibly have Vista support and Leopard updates? ;)
Oh oh I was dreaming again!
LATER

Mac Pro 2.66, 5 gigs ram, FW1884, Waves, Logic Pro 7.2.3. Thinking of running Xp Pro and Sonar but I should quit while I'm ahead and just make some tunes :)

DK:
I agree with your summary. My reference to "whinning" is directed to those who have the time to "whine" but can't seem to find the time to direct their energies into getting results by formal letter writing, etc. Of course we are frustrated; of course Tascam's tardiness is unacceptable but clogging up this forum with rants accomplishes zero. I think you'll also agree that letters are more weighty than phone calls and emails. IMH(BA)O.

In the future when we encounter problems, I think a steady stream of firm but respectfully written letters to Tascam senior management will produce the quickest results.

Could not agree more Jay

I think you are to be highly commended here - That letter you sent may have been a catalyst to get this moving.

Many people here have been very actively engaging the respective parties and I personally appreciate all those efforts!

Cautiously optimistic......................

So, how about some reviews or general comments from you lucky people that get responses from TASCAM Customer Support and receive drivers instead of excuses?

Better yet, how about post the .dll? I'm sure somebody here can host it.

Sorry that I'm whining, but it honestly irks me to death that I've been politely emailing them with status requests- not demands- and in return I'm not contacted about a beta driver, or much less, graced even a simple response this time from my Tuesday email.

I simply don't get it. I can tell you something- if I get a driver from them, I don't care if they tell me that it's under "double secret probation-" it's getting hosted immediately at every outlet that I can find with my signature on the download and this .JPG with that goober on one side and my middle finger at the other. What's the worst they can do- threaten to delay the release of the final version longer?

Then again, I don't wanna make him cry. He looks unstable as it is.

I haven't gone through all the squawks yet, but I can confirm that the new dll does fix at least two of my main problems:

- selecting tracks on screen now causes the tracks on the 1884 to be selected

- Arming tracks for record now works as it should (can 'sel' track and punch 'rec')

All the news isn't good...

Aux Send controls still do not work properly:
- Cannot set Pre/Post
- Cannot Enable/Disable

Aux send panning and volume DO work.

Automation recording still doesn't work properly; the REC and PLAY lights on the transport get stuck in the ON position.

So, the new dll's still not perfect, but an improvement.

Make sure you let Tascam know the results of your testing - CustSer@teac.com

It's a step in the right direction. I've been watching this thread for weeks. I've had my share of problems with this thing in the past. I bought this thing when it first came out and all i got was a manual and a power cord - No disc. I went back to GC and I had bought the first of two units and neither had driver disc or firewire cable. Every driver I had was from the net and every one of them was better and added features (Virtual midi channels, etc) I've used the crap out of it and it still works great. Hopefully Tascam will get the drivers up to date because I plan on using it for a long time.

Confirmed - an improvement indeed but still no cigar - like Chrono said it's a beta so at least we have something to work with - Let's hope some feedback to them will get it tightened up - sending a message now - I'm also going to keep Brian at Frontier in the loop as well
