Guys,

Not trying to beat a dead horse, no troll intention, no IK bashing. Just asking for straight answers. Everything is so far skirting around the direct issue. Natives out here in the bush would ask for "plain speak".

My problem is inability to think complex. Any one of you guys on this forum have 50 or more IQ points beyond me, so maybe this has already been answered to completion and I just don't get it.

Asking for IK verification as to what is and what is not migrated from A3 to A4.

Understand that purchases from the CS can be moved forward if everything functions properly, and have faith that tech support will make sure the transition works.

Question with a more concrete example. IK guys, please help me out.

A3 opens and I can get into the stomps. Some choices are Diode Overdrive, Echo Man, Electric Flanger, Compressor, DComp. Many others.

Open the racks and there is Rezo, Tube Compressor, Analog Chorus, Pitch Shifter, many others.

Are these effects, racks folded into A4?

Was a comment that the loyalty program has this perk already taken care of for A3 owners. The 25% skeptic in me still needs a confirmation from the company. Something not right that I hope I'm completely wrong about.

No big thing if we can't use our A3 gear. New product, new rules. Respect at this point that IK is cranking out new softwares for PC/Mac. Thought for awhile you guys were lost in the I-stuff.

I, too, am confused with all the posts but if A4 works the same as A3 it should be this way.
You would download and install A4. After installation you would open Custom Shop and there will be a Restore My Gear button. Click there and all your Amplitube gear that was in A3 will download automatically  into A4.
You can either uninstall A3 for a clean install of 4 or install 4 alongside of 3 and just use 4 for the new models. I always have uninstalled the older version and went with a clean install of the new version and restored my gear in the new version. I am a little paranoid about having so many versions of the same software.
I hope this clears it up. Most of all, I hope I'm right!

Maybe I'm wrong, but it always seemed clear to me that every piece of gear you own in A3 will migrate to A4 with the 'restore my gear' option in Custom shop.

Alright!! Explain to me in plain English what I would have to pay to get A4! I have 35 credits and 49 Jampoints. What would be the cash outlay for A4?

I've read to this post... thanks Sidroe. I am still confused. I have it pulled up. It allowed me to apply 30 jampoints which brings the price down to 69.99.
I have 60 credits... so... wha... can I use the credits and pay a few bucks? Should I buy more gear credits or just pay the 69.99.
Why does this have to be so confusing. I really think IK needs to get rid of jampoints or gear credits and go with one or the other. Just make it easy. Easy is SO much better than five pages of a thread and still confusion, really. Should I buy 25 credits (I think then I'll have 92 credits and use 30 jampoints and the balance with credits and have a few credits left over or am I confusing jampoints with credits with dollars?

Will someone smarter than me please tell me what to do. I guess that could be pretty much anyone, lol.

Sidroe,

Hey brother, hope all is well there in Georgia. Melted away in the Lockheed aircraft plant cranking out C-30's in your neck of the woods. Thermometer would hit 114 degrees F (high as it could register so who knows how hot it got). Some of us dropped and died in the intense heat, but we kept the AirForce running. Lots of fond memories from deep south survival. Brilliant thunderstorms. Intoxicating perfumes of night Jasmine mixed with the honneysuckle.

Crap, lost focus here...

What I'm trying to get a clarification of is what is migrated forward from the native A3 internal format. Maybe more correct to ask what are we losing that we cannot use in A4 if we have A3.

Clear that the migration allows cash purchases made from the A3 shop to be used in A4.

No problem. Understand that dynamic.

Vegetable level question to IK is... Does A4 has all the included stomps and racks from A3. If not, is there a mechanism to import stomps, import racks, import settings from A3 into A4.

Not the brightest bulb interpreting multilevel legaleze. Only inspired observation is how a simple question cannot be given a simple answer. Probably hell bound lawyers somewhere in the mix.

Sidroe,

At minimum.

Go to the IK Store. Buy 75 credits apply $22 jam points (max allowed is 30% of purchase price).

Until the 16th you'll get 87 credits (once you log into the Custom Shop, they apply the bonus there). 87 + 35 = 122. You'll use 99 credits for A4. $53 outlay and A4 is yours.

I was in exactly that same boat and that was what I did.

What bonus? Sorry but I only said I was a knife, I never said I was a sharp knife.

Also, it allows me to apply 30 Jampoints... but I should only apply 22 ?? Why so confusing?

Julien,

Until the 16th any purchase of Gear Credits comes with a bonus. IOW buy 50 and you get 55. Buy 75 you actually get 87. Buy 100 and you actually get 120.

It's a special sale until Sept 16th. Been going on for about a month.

Thanks Bapu. I have 45 jampoints. It will allow me to apply 30 jampoints leaving a price of 69.99. I have 60 credits, so am I correct in thinking I can buy 25 and get 27 then apply the 30 JPs and the balance in credits? I should have 87 credits if I buy 25 more. Am I missing something or will that work... or do I still have to send money too.

Sorry...

I agree it's an extremely irritating way to give people a great deal, but it does end up being a great deal.

Ohhhhh.

Thanks. I was getting really irritated trying to figure out how to use both jampoints and gear credits. IK really should make an attempt to make things a bit more clear. I think I get it now. So I have 45 jampoints, I'll see how many credits that will buy me then use the 'bonus" to get more if I need them, then pre-order A4. I'll trust that it will be better. I've learned that it usually isn't good to try to hold on to the past, I'll move along with things.. and I'll like it! Hah!

When you install A4 you can restore everything you have in A3 to the version 4. You will have everything you have in A3 plus the new amps and features in A4. That is why I said I always uninstall the older version, in this case A3. Then I install the new version, in this case A4. After installing A4, I open custom shop and click on restore my gear. Everything you had in A3 will be restored to A4. Now you will have the new features plus all your gear will be present in A4!
If you choose to, you can install A4 next to A3 and the only things that will be in 4 are the features and new amps. You can continue to use 3 if you wish. The problem with that is you won't be able to use the cool new features in 4 with all your amps and fx in 3. I recommend to get 4, uninstall 3, install 4, go to custom shop and click restore my gear! That way everything is in one program and you can breath new life in to your old gear with the new features! Hope this helped.

Got it done, thanks again. Pre-ordered and have 47 credits left. I used 22 (like Bap said) bought the 75 pack, used 100 credits to buy.
I may buy the 300 pack, then I'll have enough to get ST3 and have credits left... maybe get a Mark III and a Silvertone Twin. I wonder though if the ST3 on the IK site is the "All In" ST3 bundle I've seen. I'll take a closer look.

Thanks again... Clint and Bapu and everyone. I don't feel so ignorant anymore!

JohnKenn, yes, it is still the way you remember it down here! Sometimes better, sometimes worse. I was born and raised here in Macon, Ga and I can tell you if you don't believe in global warming just come spend a summer here in the deep south!

Sidroe,

Remember being woken up in late May by the heat radiating thru the roof. Spent many summers in the deep south, and do believe in global warming. Not for wimps.

Got shifted around thru life and ended up on the Oregon Coast. If it gets over 75 degrees in the dog days of summer, it is baking torture.

Sometimes in the winter the thermometer will dip below a brutal 40 degrees. How do we survive.

Wind another matter. Getting into the yearly winter storm season with rolling storms and 100 mph plus winds, just a little breeze..

Re: AmpliTube 4.... 2015/09/12 22:54:51 (permalink)
It seems that IK have been very careful to not refer to Amplitube 4 as an 'Upgrade'. I have not seen that term used anywhere on their website or marketing efforts concerning Amplitube 4.

As I understand it, Amplitube 4 is a new, separate product, from any previous version of Amplitube. It will install alongside of a previous version, but not replace it. This leads me to suspect that if the previous version is uninstalled, you will run into problems opening projects where the previous version was used.

I'm going to leave my Amplitube 3 installed. I'll install Amplitube 4 when it is released and use the 'Restore My Gear' to import all of my Amplitube 3 and purchased Custom Shop gear.

If my assumption/understanding is correct, I will have access to all of my previous gear from Amplitube 3 available in Amplitube 4, and still maintain compatibility for older projects by leaving Amplitube 3 installed.

This is only my personal understanding of the situation, based on what I've read in other forums on the subject. Peter can correct me if I'm wrong.

Sit back...take a breath.

You've all still got plenty of time to have all your questions answered before you actually have to make a purchase.

Chill.

That said...it would be the height of stupidity and hubris for IK to not have all features of A3 migrate forward into A4. Everything you have now should appear and work just as it always has in A3. This is the way every update to Amplitube has been from the get go. IIRC.

If not I'll be the first to grab a torch and pitchfork and help you hunt the bastards down.

Geeze.

But Darin makes a good point... "plug in not found" in old songs... will have to be changed... I'll just keep A3 "in the mix" ... it's not like it takes a butt load of space!

Vegetable level question to IK is... Does A4 has all the included stomps and racks from A3. If not, is there a mechanism to import stomps, import racks, import settings from A3 into A4.

I would assume that A4 will work just like A3 in that "restore my gear" will load every thing you own regardless of it being purchased directly or through custom shop.IKs posts confirm this for me. (unless I am missing something you have seen to the contrary.)

Importing settings is another question, and a good one. I am hoping A3 and A4 will coexist.

Will A4 load A3 presets??

If you first uninstall A3, then install A4, then 'restore my gear', I understand that will restore the stuff you've previously bought in the Custom Shop but it can't restore all the 'built-in' gear that came with A3 - as you've previously uninstalled it.  Are you happy that this is all now gone?  This is the issue that's puzzling me.

As I understand it, Amplitube 4 will essentially ‘import’ Amplitube 3 into itself. You will not lose Amplitube 3. You will simply use it via Amplitube 4.
The difference is that Amplitube 4 will have a different plug-in ID. If you open a project that expects to find Amplitube 3, it will not automatically load Amplitube 4 in its place if it can’t find Amplitube 3.
My hope is that we’ll be able to export an Amplitube 3 preset and load that preset into Amplitube 4. That will allow an easy way to ‘upgrade’ the project to Amplitube 4.

Darinbad beat me to the punch. In my haste I assumed that you are pretty much finished with older legacy projects that use A3. If you wish to go back to projects that are using A3 you WILL get prompted by Sonar that the plugin has been uninstalled or moved and you have to replace all the tracks in those projects with A4 and probably have to re-mix and re-master. That is because A4 is an all new program and not an upgrade!
BUT, if you are moving on and just concerned with using A4 on all projects from this point forward, you do have the option to install along with 3 so you don't have that problem. If that is the case, simply install 4 and restore gear from Custom Shop and BTW!!!! when I say Restore I mean from the Custom Shop logo on Amplitube 4s right hand corner. Not the standalone version of Custom Shop.
Please forgive me for overlooking the fact that you may want to still use A3 in older projects. I have been around for so long in the business that I tend to think old school. In other words, once an album is finished it goes out as is! There used to NOT be the option of going back and replacing just an amp sound without re-amping or re-recording! What you played thru was on there and after the release there was no turning back. You just had to muddle on until you could afford better gear and instruments.
I thank Darinbad for catching my mistake!!!!

Yep. You got that right Sidroe. Us Old-timers have to start thinking differently. Things are not as they used to be.

Peter
Care to comment on Sidroe's suggestions? I've got AT3 and am buying AT4, plus I have 5 expansion libraries and a number of individual ones purchased with credits. I could easily do the "AT3 uninstall first" and swap it for AT4 in my Sonar projects. What is the "IK recommended way"?

Also, you mentioned that T-Racks 4 was "here" and that T-Racks 5 would be next. Does that mean that my T-Racks Grand is  version 4? I think the only processor I'm missing is the new Stealth Limiter.

I would like to be a beta tester! LOL!!!! I'm just going by where the Custom Shop tab is in A3. I figured they would probably leave it there.
