A fellow whose family operated a successful bakery in Italy immigrated to the US and settled in New York City, bringing with him the recipe for a very good sliced bread that had made his folks famous. He opened a small bakery and soon he could hardly keep up with the demand. He hand-sliced the loaves with a knife which took a lot of time and limited production. Then one day, in a second hand store he found a long-bladed cleaver that would slice two loaves at once, placed side by side. He was able to increase production, but soon was running behind on his orders again. Then, in another second hand store he found a huge one that had a blade twice as long as the last one. In great joy, he said, “This is my lucky day! I’ve found a four-loaf cleaver!”
