e.Blue I'm starting to feel like Mac support IS the only logical explanation for the drawn out announcement and the intro of lifetime upgrades. Think about it... Cakewalk is probably trying to lock in as many current SONAR users as possible. Once SONAR is available on OSX, it will be competing against Apple's Logic which only cost $200. This means that they will have to lower the price of SONAR significantly. Lowering the price that much would probably tick off many long-time SONAR users and essentially make the subscription-based model obsolete.
...JMHO
I'm not sure. For years Noel and Seth have said it would be too hard to port Sonar to Mac, the base code being so intrinsic to Windows. My take is that the Sonar engine is going to be used in alternate products. Splat will stay the mainstay but there'll be a Live type product with the same audio engine but enhanced midi and warping then a product with video editing capacity and then maybe a notation product. No doubt versions running on iOs and android. Or an entire new cross code platform. Whatever no company can sustain a lifetime membership model as someone else has said. So either Splat has limited life or there will be a change as I outlined above
See post #435. This is for SPLAT users only, not Artist and not Pro. And hover your mouse over the helpful icon to see who marked it as such.
Not sure what in my post you're referring to Ed?
Since Noel has said that bulk of SONAR users are Artist/Pro users offering this to SPlat users (only), IMO, can sustain a lifetime membership model. JMO but SPlat is not the mainstay if the bulk of the users are Artist/Pro licenses.

Andrew Rossa [Cakewalk] We sent another batch of emails just now. If you don't get anything in the next hour, let us know. Again, if you are renewed this year (meaning you've purchased an upgrade last year and a renewal thereafter, you'd get the email. Thanks, Andrew
Still nothing, checking my email's doesn't seem to show anything from cakewalk apart from cleverbridge emails, What if you upgraded last year and are paying monthly this year?

I doubt it. None of the other DAWs lower their price to compete against Logic, they do it by simply being better then Logic. Look at Cubase or Ableton. They are doing just fine and they are both higher priced that Sonar. :)

But don't worry as a lifetime Sonar user you are entitled to a special price on our new Cross Platform DAW!
Not entirely sure what this is alluding to.

Very exciting to see what the news will be! When I saw the image for the announcement, it made me think of Ableton. I've not done anything in Matrix View in Sonar in a LONG time, so I'm not familiar with any developments that may have happened, but I'd love to be able to "lead the band" with Sonar as I do now with Ableton on the Mac OS X...namely the ease of recording and arranging on the fly during a performance. I've been gigging with Ableton for a couple years now, so I'm spending more time on it overall, but if I needed to do a straight recording, I'd be more comfortable in Sonar. I'd love to be able to mix those two together and have it cross platform.

dorism It will be a brand new DAW built from the ground up.
For the Sinclair?
Hey I have one of those! Know what I think? I think Sonar is done. The bakers are unveiling new software that will be way different, built from the ground up and maybe it will work with Macs also. The old Sonar will still be supported and updates will happen, but not so consequential. That is why lifetime updates will be feasible for Gibson/Cake. Perhaps there will be a Staff based version...

See post #435 (above). This lifetime offer is for Platinum users only.
Bapu, I'm not quite sure that I follow the point that you're trying to make. However, my guess is that they will do away with the non-SPLAT versions and just have one version like Logic and Pro-Tools Native. If they are porting to a new platform, it would probably make it significantly easier to only have to focus on one version. Which all ties into why they need to lower the price. Non Platinum users will probably get an 'offer-that-they-can't-refuse' to upgrade to the new single SONAR version. mgh I'm not sure. For years Noel and Seth have said it would be too hard to port Sonar to Mac, the base code being so intrinsic to Windows. ....
Maybe that's the point...After all of those years, they've finally realized that SONAR will never be taken seriously by the professional music industry until it runs on the 'industry-standard' hardware platform, which is unfortunately Apple's hardware. I honesty feel that for Cakewalk to survive another 5 years they can no longer afford to ignore the over-priced, apple-shaped elephant in the room. There is also the possibility that they have created a brand new DAW that is fully cross-platform compatible. It's not unheard of for companies to have 'fire sales' on their current product right before they release a brand new one. Whatever happens, I would imagine that the Gibson acquisition probably had something to do with it.

Figured I'd throw out a guess... Gibson have an advanced R&D center and a while back they hired the guy from Avid who led product development for the S3L console. The S3L featured AVB (Audio Video Bridging) which enables synchronous delivery of audio streams over an Ethernet network (like Dante but more precise) so all audio could be routed to the console over Ethernet. Lately we've seen DAW's become more integrated with live consoles (ProTools, StudioOne) so maybe Gibson/Cakewalk will announce a set of intelligent network controlled interfaces (and maybe a small console) for stage and studio that are fully integrated with SONAR for device control, live production, and recording. Add wireless control, make the interfaces affordable and live production with SONAR becomes a reality. Waves (with Tracks Live, Soundgrid and Digigrid network interfaces) is a similar integrated solution but it's not really a DAW and the network hardware is expensive. Anyway I'd like to see something like this in the future...

I just don't see they have been developing a new daw in secret either.... or that Sonar is to be Mac compatible when they have been denying this weekly for many years....

Andrew or Joey, As mentioned in post #358 I still have not received anything after making sure I was subscribed. Maybe CW should just initiate one large email blast to everyone instead of doing it piecemeal. I'm sure those that already got it won't mind getting it again. I did renew SPlat last month so I believe I qualify to receive the emails. Not sure if length of being a customer matters but I've been a "Cakewalk" user since "Cakewalk" was a DOS application sometime in the last century, around 1991 I still think SONAR on Mac is possible, but then again that does absolutely zero for anyone that is on PC so I don't think that is it, unless there is something in addition to that as well.

VariousArtist Actually it's SONAR rewritten in Fortran. There's an 80 character limit on your songs, and you need to use punch cards to load the software. Silly joke for those who ever dealt with punch cards :P

If it's going to be a product to compete with Live that would require a massive overhaul of AudioSnap. Something I'd welcome for sure but I somehow doubt that's the case. They mention user feedback. What are topics that come up regularly that would also constitute major announcements? Off the top of my head: - Staff view improvements (perhaps they acquired another company?) - Basic video editing (deal with the deceased Vegas product line?) - Noise reduction suite (comes up regularly, sure that would be major) - Mac support (unlikely from a development perspective, plus I don't see how it benefits current users, but it would definitely be major) - Mastering mode/cd authoring (seems a bit niche but comes up from time to time) Anyone?

A lot have to be done , but still some stuff are really missing and it s surprising
1) A real inspiector with track mangement ( not that pop up basic ) , some serious to manage tracks and audio data also ... 2) Monitoring section with good metering analysis suite ( can t undestand how a major daw don t have it ) ( why not vu s also optionnal in all tracks ) it has been requested like hell and its a must not like some optional !! 3) Markers and arrangement ( 2016 style please !!! Studio one is a good exemple ) never been improved ... 4) dock 2.0 with the ability to see more than one plugin at one time .... Or some like studio one to be able to reach from one gui , all the fx bin s plugins in one track , love this feature 5) and why not a more classy plugin wrapper instead if that basic windows windows !!! Specially ugly when vertical plugins ... 6) sonar has the most complete plugin manger in the game , kill the game even further with a more classy view design and features ( like plugins gui option , classy layout ect )
And please a long term bizness model ...
