Hi Andrew,
Could you send me the lifetime update link too? I did get the generic June 1 email but didn't see anything about the lifetime offer.

Thanks!

That is why this lifetime member offer is is optional.

You can pay $149 (or $99 depending on a deal to be had) a year to guarantee modules like that are yours or go lifetime and decide when something is available that you need or want.

This has been refuted by Cakewalk in multiple posts. As far as included content is concerned there will be NO difference between the Lifetime subscription and the monthly/yearly subscriptions. So if the expectation is that we will no longer get things like Drum Replacer or Melodyne in the future, this will also apply to the monthly/yearly subscriptions, which is why I hope that these will be lowered in price.

Another hand up as someone who did not receive anything about a lifetime subscription. Please do the needful?

I'm wondering why there's so many folks who absolutely want to have this insider e-mail, let alone already subscribe lifetime. This is worse than Apple hype :). You have time until end of August to jump the lifetime wagon, so what are you gaining by doing it today ? Nothing at all.

The (annual) membership model is based on credit you give to CW in hope they will use it right and deliver good result. If you invest earlier, they can plan a bit more, at least in theory. And so some CW junkies want to take the opportunity to make the investment 3 month earlier then the dead line, in case they are going to invest in any case. Also deadlines can be shifted not only forward (that has happened this year already).

LifeTime Updates was suppose to be kept hush hush until the June 1st announcement, but since somebody let the cat out of the bag! And it's being discussed here.....Let me express some gladness about it?

I think it's fantastic news, if it was just this news all by itself. I'm super glad we have until Aug. 31st to jump on board. I have had things planned for June and wont be able to jump on board until July, so it's absolutely great that we have some time to opt in! If I could have done it, I would have made the purchase on the 17th when I got the email, because I want to secure a good thing like this as soon as possible. I'm so glad Cake thought to give us some time to jump on board.

I'm looking forward to hearing the additional good news on June 1st! I can hardly wait to find out what it is!

I'm super glad we have until Aug. 31st to jump on board.

I would advise not counting on that.

Earlier this year when the introductory renewal price was announced, it was supposed to last until March 31. Within a very short time, that date was clawed back to Feb 29.

Best to jump as soon as you can.

Rather frustratingly, I am also one of those who, despite being registered for emails according to my account details, I never receive any newsletters etc from The Bakers. (Yes my spam folders  / filters are checked and Cakewalks domain is in my safe senders list) As this is all rather exciting, could someone at Cakewalk reading this kindly 'fix' this for me please ?

If you don't get emails, contact them. Don't just re-subscribe, it doesn't work. If they think you've rejected their emails, then emails stop. Clicking the subcribe option doesn't change anything.

Joey sorted my emails about 18 months ago, and now it's all good. Although I didn't get the first wave of the lifetime offer emailks, without telling them they picked me up with a later run.

What a bizarre turn of events.  Cakewalk's marketing efforts are painful to watch and have been for a while but this latest effort does not do the hard working programmers and customers justice.  Let's get back to the situation where Cakewalk offers a product for a price, not this grab bag approach.

I admit to getting a bit confused here.
I thought membership was about providing companies a steady stream of income so they can deliver a better updated product and have more ready cash to finance development.
Now they offer lifetime-membership. If enough people choose this, somewhere in the future there is going to be a cash-deficit????

Late to the party but I applaud Cake's bold decision to break the mold and try something different that I think should benefit both the customer and the company which seems like intent of this latest move.

I hesitate to add my name to your long list Joey, but I upgraded in February, subscribed to the newsletter and have the announcement e-mail but no e-mail regarding the lifetime membership fee, which I will pay as soon as that e-mail arrives.

Thanks to everyone at Cakewalk for all their hard work.

No idea if this is it but i'm hoping the news is that Nektar has been bought and all their lovely keyboard/midi controllers will now integrate as perfectly as they do on Reaper, Cubase, etc.
The lack of simple midi controller integration is the one thing that keeps me from using Sonar. Using my panorama p4 with Reaper is so nice, its scary. :)

Good day to all.
Lots of posts, lots of things to think about. I already own pro, and most of the things accumulated through the years. Was gonna upgrade once. Best offer was 149. Don't see the need for plat. Now the only offer is with plat. Why not a lifetime for pro, or even artist. Just at different levels since we already own the "Flagship" software. Or are we lacking something in pro that will only be available in the new plat. Now the price for me is 199. I still have 6 months left until I have to make a decision. To me there is no difference between splat and pro except for some extras. Will probably have to wait and see what the Bakers resolve in current software.
Best,
MJ

Only if Cakewalk's entire customer base consists solely of existing users, which is not the case. The more attractive SONAR becomes, the more new users will buy it. Artist proved that. There are also plans afoot for later this year which I think/hope will bring in yet another wave of new users. But here's the outline:

New SONAR users = more resources = improvements to flagship program to make existing customers happy = trickle-down technology from flagship product allows creating other new products that draw in more users = these users get hooked on Cakewalk and eventually become new SONAR users = more resources = improvements to flagship program to make existing customers happy = trickle-down technology from flagship product allows creating other new products that draw in more users = these users get hooked on Cakewalk and eventually become new SONAR users = more resources [rinse, lather, repeat].

Another of my wild guesses....

Cake found that more money is to be made with plugins effects/synths/samplers/loops than daws.
I hope it's fair to say that Platinum is more of a plugin bundle than so much more daw than Professional(maybe Artist too) version.
So let's create a core daw lifetime subscription - and sell extras to that with good margins.
Basically what ImageLine do with FL Studio.

Ten years ago I bought Dimension Pro for €250, being about $300 then as I recall. And I still consider this a bargain. That's one sell, and the same money as 3 major updates of Sonar.

Sadly I wonder about further maintenance on Sonar, and new features as well.

Saw that Reaper 5 is officially supported by Waves now, and my favourite pitchcorrector Waves Tune as well.
Cakewalk never bothered to make Waves Tune working in the 4 years listed as supported by Waves.
I know Melodyne and ARA etc, good - but still Tune is what I like to use that have very good audio to midi conversion as well with pitchwheel events etc. So that was one point towards Cubase making the leap. So to have a backup for Cubase, Reaper is runner up, I think, rather than Sonar.

But may be far off on this....I hope I am. And all info in june 1st may proove that..

It mystifies me that anyone would object to a company offering its customers more choices in tailoring a program for their individual needs and financial situation. "One size fits all" is no longer relevant. DAWs have evolved way beyond being MIDI sequencers that could also record audio.

Before this rumor gets out of hand...Gibson purchased Deckadance only. Image-Line continues to produce FL Studio. Gibson does not own FL Studio. Stanton was acquired along with KRK and Cerwin-Vega in late 2011.

Craig, thanks for the clarification.   The press release is written kinda weird.  Or I was not paying attention.

I for one am glad that Stanton will be a Gibson Co.  I have used their phono carts for years.

You'll be happy to know you are

Think about it...SONAR is the company's flagship program, and its ongoing development has built up a portfolio of technologies over the years (and will continue to do so). Those technologies can be applied to creating new products that serve needs not served specifically by DAWs, and which will bring in new users.

Sidebar re Stanton...FWIW...cartridge production has been on hiatus for a while due to difficulty in obtaining certain materials required for their manufacture. However, I've heard rumors that this is being resolved. Stanton's current bread-and-butter is turntables.
