There is a golden rule on marketing: The bigger the announcements, the bigger the customers disappointment. Maybe not very clever to give the customers a hope of something great and big.

There's some confusing terminology on there. "Pay One Time" is not the same as "lifetime updates". "Pay one time" seems to be a year's membership, not lifetime.

skitch_84 ... This seems too good to be true. I logged in, hit BUY NOW, and it's telling me I can get lifetime updates for only $99? How is that even remotely feasible for Cakewalk from an economic standpoint? Does this include only bug fixes, etc.? Or does it include everything I'm currently getting with my yearly membership fee?
Interesting, I paid $199 for Platinum.
My lifetime price seems to be $199 as well. Hmm. It's certainly a tempting proposition even at that price, unless the rest of the announcement on June 1 is that there will be no more updates... but it would be kind of weird if some were paying half that...

Got $199 as well following the other guys link. Wonder what the timeline is that decides the pricing? Not complaining (unless Sonar goes out next year) but more curious since another guy I know said his was $99. :)

I think the $99 is for what's called "pay one time", which is the annual membership.

It seems to all depend on your current Sonar version and if you paid for your most recent rolling update and may be a few other factors. (time as customer?) I have Platinum and it was 99.00 and I am good to go and very happy.

Wondering that, as well. Mine was $525.00 by following the link, which is quite a bit higher, obviously. I migrated to Platinum from X3 Producer and have already renewed Platinum once. Also own a number of other Cake products. Not looking a gift horse in the mouth, but my offer is much less tempting than one at 199. :) Excited to see the lifetime model, though.

The lower part of the email explains the pricing: "Pricing/Availability
The regular price of upgrading from SONAR Platinum to lifetime updates will be $199. However, because you already purchased a renewal, we’re charging you only the difference between the price you paid earlier this year and $199.
For example, if you renewed SONAR Platinum for $99 earlier this year, you pay only $99 for lifetime updates. Pretty simple! We’ve already taken care of all the details and adjusted your price so it will appear correctly in the store.
Limited-time Offer: Lifetime Updates will be available only through August 31st, 2016. Act now to secure your Lifetime Updates"

I wonder if any consession will be made for those who renewed by choosing monthly payments and have basically paid for half the year, at this time.
