Cakewalk - Screenshot of new Sonar 8 Instrument Track????
Cakewalk, Could we please have a screenshot of the new Sonar 8 "Dedicated Instrument Track", with a Virtaul Instument loaded in it so that we have an idea of how this workflow enhancement works????

Seconded. We need more info on this, what's out there is way too vague.

I'm not really interested in this particular feature (tho that might change once I experience it)... But I was disappointed in the photos on the website. Tho I could get a little better look at some of theplugins and such, the only pic (really the banner) is too small to make out any detail of the overall look which would probably include the new instrument tracks.... What's up gang? Bakers...... PLEASE post a few pics that are large enuf to see! Love Ya' Keni

ORIGINAL: jinga8 The vid Brandon did/posted has close-up views... Click HERE The Mix On-live video ( http://mixonline.com/video/) gives you only close up views of the a few new instruments and effects. You get a close up of Channels Tools, TS-64 Transient Shaper, TL-64 Tube Leveler, TruePiano, DimPro, and BeatScape ....but no close up of the Track View interface or the new "Dedicated Instrument Track". Why no close up of the Track View, only distant images? Hmmm ....maybe there's nothing new here to see? OK, but then why no close up of a loaded Virtual Instrument Track? This is new isn't it??? ...maybe nothing really new here either.

Brandon, where does it say what VSTi you are assigning the MIDI too? Do you have to switch back to the dual track view to see that?

ORIGINAL: mike_mccue Brandon, where does it say what VSTi you are assigning the MIDI too? Do you have to switch back to the dual track view to see that? It would be assigned to the VSTi that the instrument track is for. The point is to get rid of the assigning portion of things with the instrument tracks. Instead of thinking of virtual instruments as an audio track controlled by a midi track, think of them simply as instruments tracks.

I don't think you answered my question... I see a track name at top... are you suggesting that the only name suitable for the track is the *instruments* name... and that the track is not a track, but rather it's an instrument? If it's an instrument why can't I call it Bass, or Sax, or Strings etc? I guess I'm confused, and seeking corrections or explanations with regards to the above comments. best, mike

It's not clear from the pic, what everything is. Under "Notes/Velocity" I see a volume and pan which could be apply to the midi or the audio channel (personally, I only use the audio pan and volume); however, with the info around it being midi oriented data, I'd be a little inclined to think these are the midi controls.

Mike, I have a Laser mouse with zoom capability (am I the lucky one !!!) and the screenshot shows Z3ta in the track name, however of course Brandon may have renamed it as such so lets see what we find out.... I think you have to switch back to the dual view to see both the MIDI and Audio velocity/trim and volume/level settings... I wonder how long it will take me to just leave both tracks open all the time... oh wait I already do that :-)

Right off the bat I see that the meters are for audio not MIDI. The Inspector is set up for audio not MIDI where its a MIDI track. Also I see a proper pause button in the transport.

ORIGINAL: mike_mccue so back to the original question... how do you know what VSTi that track is assigned too? You can leave the default name. Or type it in the name (i.e. "Bass-Z3ta+) or use a Track Icon (as is the case in the screen shot). Remember that double-clicking the Instrument track icon will launch the GUI for whatever synth is attached to that track.

This feature wasn't really a selling point for me, but I may try it out and see if I like it. The only thing missing, that I use in this view, is the midi metering. When setting up the tracks, it's often convenient to know if the track is receiving midi and what other tracks might be receiving it unintentionally. I suppose I'd have preferred to see the audio controls grouped together, and midi controls grouped together, but once I use it for ten minutes, I'll probably get over it. :-)

I think these folks should have taken the buy 7 get Project 5 for $99.00 offer (or similar offer), this would have helped them a lot. If you want to demo this, download the trial version of project 5 v2.5 and play around with inserting an instrument. You will see how it looks and functions with having a single track instrument instead of using an audio and midi track. Peace

Personally I've found using the instrument tracks to be pretty straight-forward and it's so easy to toggle between split and singular modes that I'd be surprised if it really caused much of an uproar, but (sadly at times) I'm willing to accept the possibility of almost anything.
