Different topic. That's an issue in the forum's code. We haven't gotten around to investigating / dealing with it.

@ruben... I'm sure they do. I however am not noticing any changes at all to either the forum or my store account at the moment. Aside from the little registration process I went through everything is the same and I'm not seeing any of the stuff being mentioned here unless I click on scook's link. Then it just tells me I haven't bought anything.

Weird but hey... I'm cool with that.

I should probably go do some other stuff seeing as how my computers didn't explode and my brain hasn't been sucked out the back of my skull.

Same here. I have seperate emails for Forum and the Cakewalk account not sure how they are amalgamated.

Thanks Ryan!  Any idea about when this will be resolved?

This change surprised me... I couldn't login.... couldn't figure out how to do it until I went through the support pages and found the forum main page where there was a STICKY telling how to migrate.

I feel stupid cause it took me about 45 minutes to figure it out.  Thought I got banned or something for awhile since I could see all the regular suspects still posting.

That wasn't nice and easy.

Looks like everything is working for me, my biggest hurdle was remembering that my user name is not the same as my email. I was able to migrate just fine and all my stuff shows up in the My Account section.
That being said, I think I like the old table format better than the drop downs for registered products. It was a lot easier to copy and paste into a text file for backups. Can we get a download all registrations and serials as text option?

I actually figured out that there is no specific button or link to go to it. It's just the login page. Once you are logged in then you are on the My Account page with the links to your store account. Once you navigate to the forum everything is the same as it was before.

At least I THINK that's what's going on. Otherwise I am visiting an entirely different website than everyone else.

+1 An export process for registration info would be useful for those maintaining a local copy of the data.

To clarify, the new My Account page is at www.cakewalk.com/My-Account

The reason most people coming from the forum are probably not seeing it is because after logging in it has logic to return you to the URL you just came from (in this case the forum).

As we incorporate this with other areas of our website we'll make sure it's easy for everyone to navigate to it from our main site. In the meantime we didn't want to confuse people trying to log into the store to make a purchase, so for people to check it out they'll have to navigate directly. Sorry for the confusion with this guys!

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't aware how many people like to save an export until reading some of the feedback comments coming in. We'll consider it. At the moment though, our goal is to make sure the page accurately reflects what products people own versus making it do special things. It's not going anywhere, so if it's accurate and you have an internet connection, you can get to your data.

Whilst we are at it a sort feature for product registrations would be nice. By date, by alphabetical order, also group by product or serial number. BTW it seems to generate the product list everytime (long pause) so I suspect it needs some caching introduced.

It's maybe too late but I really do recommend DotNetNuke which is opensource and can be downloaded via codeplex. You can have a site up and running in 15 minutes. It saves you a lot of custom scripting (you can write your own customized modules for it or even adapt other peoples source code). It's really expandable and cheap to maintain (and runs on ASP.NET/C#/IIS/SQL Server) and kicks the living sh*t out of Wordpress. Everything is modular in approach even skinning. Developers love it as well as consumers. There is something for everybody and there are providers for more or less everything.

Cheers

Based on Ryan's recent post, I was waiting for the RFC for the page layout but this is similar to what I had in mind, a tabular layout more like an updated version of the old store page (i.e. database style options like sort , export, etc.).

Re: Cakewalk, Single Sign On and You - Migrating Your Forum Account 2014/07/28 20:57:54 (permalink)
Well, I seem to have migrated OK. Eventually. Though the whole process felt like I was stumbling through in the dark. I agree with those saying there needs to be a much clearer indication which of the options are the correct one for those of us with existing forum and store accounts and which password/username (store or forum) is required. Right now it's the opposite of intuitive.

One caveat though. The store page with products, download links and serial is now a long list of pull-downs which have to be individually clicked on to expand. The layout once expanded is an improvement on the old jumbled one, but could we have the whole lot on a page without the need to keep clicking to see the serials please?

It's really useful to be able to take a print if the whole lot, save as an mht file, convert to pdf etc. so a local copy is handy during installation, or as a permanent record. The new layout requires an awful lot of clicking...

Hi! It's gswitz :-)

I can't convert my old account because my password was only 5 letters and it didn't meet the new password requirements.

When I try to reset the password, I'm told the gswitz account doesn't exist.

Any thoughts on what to do?
