I think this is covered somewhere in the list that has been provided ... at least the gist of it.

My biggest work flow gripe is dealing with clearing out deleted files from a peer project audio folder, using the clean audio files utility did good when all the audio files where saved one folder, that utility did a fair job, but not enough control when searching. The file finder utility became useless when peer project folders are used.

Another improvement, I would like to see is an option to enable destructive editing when cutting out a portion of an audio file, when you have a need to delete a chunk of file.

great to see a continuation from the workflow thread, please add my name to the list

Jonathan constantine

on point 5 I'd really love the ability to have 2 users work on a project over a LAN where one user can ring fence a set of tracks and when finished have it updated or refreshed for the other user to  implement into his project. It'a not something i need right now but something I'd love to see in the not too distant future

This is already somewhat possible in Sonar, Click on the quick group icon on a buss while pressing the  Alt key, then any track or buss that is routed to that buss will now be in a quick group. It's not pretty but it does show all of the tracks routed to that buss, with a mouse click and a button( Alt).

See now were getting somewhere, one of the feature requests is already half way implemented

James you can add me to your list

Yeah I got that, what I was suggesting was and adjunct to it, which I think would make it more powerful.

I think we already have the ability to click a buss and see which tracks are routed to it (think that might actually be shift-click? - not at DAW) They're added to a quick group. However, not everything that points at a buss is a track, some busses are also aux returns (and therefore only fed by sends).

Sign me up.

As part of GUI enhancements, how about giving some sense to context menus. For instance, why does Unlink Clips not unlink step sequencer clips? Why do I need a whole different option called Unlink Step Sequencer Clips to do that?

I believe this is covered in point 5. :) That is certainly part of the improvement we had in mind. Proper file management would include enhancement to the audio file clean-up function.

It is great to see so many people joining in this thread and supporting the ideas. :)

Hah, no worries!

I was just trying to shape up the request, as it struck me that a lot of it is taken up with something we already have the working rudiments of (as outlined above) but could be better.

As for my insert send behaviour issues, if anyone is gonna understand the need to champion a cause........

GREAT list folks! Please add my name as well.

I'd also like the following features considered for inclusion:

  • Ability to 'Rename' a project and its containing folder simultaneously
  • A 'Repeat Last Export' menu command, that bypasses all dialogs, reselects previously selected data and immediately starts exporting using the last file name and settings used.
  • Ability to make maximized windows on secondary monitors behave like the Track view window and not allow other windows to be hidden behind them.

Frank Johnson , add me

  • 1.     Clip gain and pan envelopes key bindable (multiple clip selections at a time)
  • 2.     Select a portion of the clip and just drag up or down like V-Vocal (with automatic node creation)
  • 3.     Hold shift or something to be able to draw a straight line,(still automatic node creation)
  • 4.     It would be great if the waveform changed while moving the gain envelope so we could see relative adjustments as oppose to, you should just know what 5.3 db's will do to the sound
  • 5.     I would also like to go more than 6db's when I'm raising the gain on the clip. maybe default starting position to center of clip, and this would help with the visual for the relative loudness compared to  the rest of the clip/waveform

I won't be greedy, so I'll stop, But i believe we all could benefit from these

Why in the world hasn't this been done yet? PLEASE! As my projects evolve I almost always want to rename.

Add me to the list. Although I would think the bakers have the roadmap to 9.0 pretty well set, which will take us to Oct 2010. So with their development cycle I wouldn't anticipate seeing any of this stuff until 2011 (unless it's already in the plan for 9.0). That's a pretty big ship to be turning mid-stream.

  • My preference is on a unrestricted routing matrix, including the ability route buses to record ready audio tracks for realtime mixdowns/utility.
Agreed. This would be covered by the "Universal Track Architecture". A track is a bus is an aux. If it has an external or synth as input it is a track, if it is fed from a send or track or whatever it is a a bus. (Cakewalk already dispensed with auxes when they introduced the Universal Bus Architecture. This is just the next logical step). The only distinction then becomes how it is used and, for clarity and organisation,  a "bus" could have a different colour but otherwise everything has the same functionality.
  • Improved file/content/project import/export management.
Yes.

Again thanks everyone for all the support!

a Big problem for me when in the depths of a project is seeing the whole project as a whole and being able to move around and see things effectively. My suggestion would be to have floating windows that are alt/tab abled where you could select say tracks 1-20 as a view and then have 21- 35 as a view etc. and then be able to alt/tab around to the different screen shots. I still remember the ease of Pro Audio 9 where you had the editor window that could be opened on the track you were working on and the underlying track view was still there just an alt/tab away. Either that or fix the whole scrolling thing.  like you're looking at track 70 and you hit f to bring the whole project into focus (whatever will fit) it defaults to the top track?? huh? I was looking at 70. And, at least make the little bar on the scroll slider thingy BIGGER. I just wish it was easier to move around. BTW, I'm not whining.

I always thought it would be great if you can convert the sample rate of a project. Sonar would then do an offline, high quality sinc samplerate conversion on all audio files as well as make all other project related changes needed to convert the project to the newly requested samplerate.

I know you can do rudimentary sample-rate conversion on a project by saving it as a template, then opening it as a new project with a different samplerate, but this is tedious and doesn't handle the audio clips.

Please add me to the list as well...

Hey Wicked,

This is where I answered this question:  http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=1888629

Believe me when I say that we would love to have every single feature addressed by the next version of Sonar.  But you and I know that this would be unrealistic (even with the current list), which is why we tried to keep features to a minimum.  We believe the list covers most of the user base and includes features that have been discussed here many times in the past.  Will it please everybody?  Of course not.  That would be impossible to achieve.  But I think we got close enough based on how people have reacted to it so far.

However, as I said earlier, we will include a link to this forum in the letter that will be sent to Cakewalk.  This way they'll be able to see what has been suggested so far.  We just didn't want to go too overboard with it, and remain focused on workflow (which is still a broad theme).  Hope you understand :-)

Have a good one!
