.... Problem with PS is that you have to buy the expensive professional version to get 64-bit processing, which is not in the sale.
...

This is misleading.  The 64 bit you are referring to has to do with the internal audio engine.  Many users (including me) don't give a flip about the double-precision internal processing -- in fact, I have it turned off in Sonar.
The 64-bit ability that most folks are concerned about has to do with allowing access to large amounts of ram.  AFAIK, all versions of Studio One have this capability.

Have you turned it off because enabling it not only gives you absolutely no advantages but also gives you some disadvantage?
I'm ignorant about this so I'm just wondering if I should also turn it off.

Tak T.

I like the look and feel of MC6, so I'll probably like X2 as well. I can only go for Essentials at this time as I don't think I need all the other stuff for primarily voice-over work, but having loops and other rack-type modules would be useful for development.

I wonder what the Apple/Pro Tools guy thought of  x2 it after listening to demos mentioned in an above post. That bit wasn't mentioned. It'd be good to see that they converted to Sonar.

Ill toss in my 2peso worth.

I think we will get something like similar to what cake did when x1 expanded was released.

IIRC users of x1 got a patch at about the same time as the expanded product came out. The patch fixed several things for users that did not upgrade and the users that did upgrade got those fixes and additional fixes to the pro channel.

Hi Beep - I always enjoy reading your posts. You are normally someone who can be counted on as a voice of reason when things start to slip off the rails. So - I hope you'll stick around personally. In my opinion, the fact that you are a SONAR owner, whether it is your main daw or not should give you an automatic key to the front door - and the right to make yourself at home and stay as long as you like.

Indeed, I am a rush fan!  I was only joking about being afraid to post. ;)
Truth is, i don't push Sonar hard so because I'm just a lone guitarist trying to made decent recordings of myself. I've not had any issues yet. But I feel for those who do push it hard and have issues.

X2a has a few quirks compared to X1d but overall I'm happy with it. Automation and take lanes are fabulous and worth the whole price. I'm interested in seeing what Cake does with X3 (if that's even what it will be called), but I sure hope they don't go the subscription route. I don't always do immediate upgrades and can't afford the constant payments. I prefer to upgrade when I get around to it.

I wouldn't exactly call the payments "constant"

If they take the subscription route, the payments will be constant, even without updates, won't they? But I don't think they will do that. Of course, then it would depend on how high the yearly subsription fee would be... Thinking that I've only upgraded three times in twenty years ( Pro Audio 6 >SONAR 4 > SONAR 6 > SONAR 8.5) and will upgrade again only if forced to, the subscription method wouldn't most likely suit me at all.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I don't think they'll go that way either Kalle.

My outlay, apart from some of PC modules has been limited to 6PE > 8PE > 8.5PE > X1 > X1Expanded > X2

Will this $49 upgrade include the TH2 30 FREE Presets, FREE TH2 Bonus Content and the Bonus FX Chain Odyssey pack? If it's not already included, can Cakewalk throw these in and have them in our account?

I'm not sure, but for an on sale offer to be a genuine offer, the product must be exactly the same as what it was before the sale. If not, it is a different product and the percentage discount will misleading. A company should not advertise 50% off then offer a product with 50% of its features.

i am sure those will be available to download from your account. but they are just a few presets, no one would miss them by not having them. ill just point out the obvious and say that is no where near 50% of the product. more like .05%

There are several axioms in product marketing.

1) You never launch any product in August.

2) If it is a consumer product, it needs to be in high gear by Christmas.

3) If it is a product used heavily by schools, it needs to be orderable before the fall term starts.

We are already past 3), and I'm not sure that the educational market would drive product timing for SONAR.

I have a bunch of titles that seem to be beyond their normal upgrade interval.  I expect it to be a busy September.  Notice that Izotope is Launching RX3 in September:

Huh? I believe the offer he is referring to was content club offer earlier this year that has now expired. The current content club offer is the EDM Euphoria pack.

http://www.cakewalk.com/products/sonar/x2-producer/content-club.aspx

Just for the record though, the TH2 presets mentioned would hardly constitute 50% of the product. Not even close.

Perhaps before you rush to judge, you should understand what the current offer is which is 50% off X2 upgrades. That's the offer. If you buy Producer, you also get the Content Club bonus. It's not being advertised as anything else.

IMHO, I think the marketing landscape has changed.  Case in point - IIRC, Apple is supposed to be announcing / showing their new lineup of iStuff on 9/9, a month before the products will be available.  They are expected to launch preemptive strikes, contrasting their products with the Andorid offerings, so that consumers hold off on making hasty purchases from other vendors.

With Q, L, P, and the other S having new offerings, I am surprised that that we are not seeing anything from our Bakers, even though we may not see anything for a month.  Granted, with vendors listed, no one was given a clue about what functionality might be included in the new releases, so there was some element of surprise, but surprise isn't what it used to be.

The announcement to port DP to Windows came long before it actually happened, but the announcement probably caused some folks familiar with the Mac version to take note.

Not everyone can afford to have mutliple ($199)$400-$500 DAW software.  And bringing back users who have departed would take some miracle features or stability.

Are there any trade shows that would drive this?  Many tech product announcement cycles are driven by one key trade show where vendors try to make the big splash.

I don't know if there is anything like that in the DAW world.  Just searching around the interwebs, I don't see any particular show that stands out.

I would like them to run a promotion where you can download everything that was offered to Content Club Members plus those extras from the very beginning for the regular Producer upgrade cost of $99 now that the Content Club has reached its promotional end. They can do this before a X3 promotion rolls out. The 50% off they're running now plus the bonus content seems fair and is a good promotion but the Content Club is about to expire unless they renew it for existing X2 users. I like their concept of the earlier you buy the more you get - it wasn't always like this for early adopters and hope they keep the Content Club going for future versions of Sonar.

Presonus has an announcement scheduled for 4pm ET tomorrow afternoon.

From Presonus:
On Thursday, August 29 2013, at 3:00 p.m. CST, (4:00 p.m. EST | 1:00 p.m. PST | 20:00 GMT) head over to www.presonus.com/videos/presonuslive, where we’ll dagger the cloak, tip our hand, and reveal the other players in our triumvirate. But what is it? - See more at: http://www.presonus.com/c.../#sthash.W1X2lQ57.dpuf

Yep, 2.6 is out now, which I haven't downloaded and tested yet, but it includes many fixes and improvements.

Yeah, it looks like a nice update.   I haven't downloaded it yet either, but there are enough fixes/enhancements to make this one worthwhile for me - I currently have 2.5 installed since .51 and .52 didn't really have anything to offer for what I do.

Now I just need a new(er) SONAR to go along with it.

Hi, I installed 2.6 and tested it but midi editing features are hardly improved and it looks like Studio One is going in the audio/live recording direction more and more. I think I'll stop making new songs in S1 for a while and when 3.0 comes out I'll decide if I should ditch the program or not. I hope X3 will add S1's super-easy, high-quality timestretching (it's now pretty much the only thing I desperately want Sonar to add).
