Would be great if CbB had INSERT FX slots on the hardware buses to allow monitor FX without requiring "in between" buses just for that purpose.

gapless audio engine. And change screen sets using num pad. With instant visibility (like logic) now it feels cheapish with the slow screen build up.

Very late to this thread.

Can't say what hasn't already been said but here are additional details with my 23 years experience with the program:

+1 for improvements to note-snapping for Staff Roll.  Cakewalk Home Studio was really good at this.  Having note snap set to 1/16 "To" mode and note length to 16th does not produce results as expected.  Example:  " 1 e & A " when laid down as expected with expected timings: "1:01:000, 1:01:240, 1:01:480, 1:01:720" often produces note snapping errors like: "1:01:000 1:01:360 1:01:640, 1:01:720" at default ticks per quarter note.  This is especially irritating as a main reason I find Cakewalk very comfortable to use is the Staff Roll, where I initially learned music theory.
+1 for VST wrapper stability improvements.  More specifically to multiple instances of Rapture Pro, of which I've had crashing over.
+1 For panic-clip !  Save our eardrums !  Please.
+1 For fixing diatonic transposition math.  -8 does not in fact lower MIDI data by one octave.  I find myself having to make adjustments after transposing.

Highlight a portion of the song (even blank measures) and "delete and ripple" all tracks and clips like in a video program.  Also insert measures, moving all tracks and clips forward.

Safe mode project load:

Instead of a mindless string of you wanna load the plug and that one?
Provide use with a big static scrollable on screen table listing the tracks and the plugs with check boxes for each plug. So we could see that one or two plugs we loaded recently that is causing all the trouble.
Naturally the would be a button to select all / none also.

We nearly always know what we did but still must go through the string of interview questions to get there. And you better not accidentally click Yes to load the offending plug when you have just clicked Yes 78 times or more.

This could be done over lunch.

Look at a piano keyboard.  There are 12 chromatic semitones in an octave, 7 white keys, and 5 black ones.

MIDI transposition math (and the note numbers assigned by MIDI) is based on the piano keyboard, so moving one octave lower is a -12 chromatic semitone move down.

Bounce To Tracks 2018/08/02 19:36:03 (permalink) ☄ Helpfulby seriousfun 2018/08/03 05:38:39
Hey,

I find this annoying.  When I'm selecting a short section of music to bounce to a new track, say the output of a soft synth, the track is bounced right to the bottom of the track view. It's a pain to then have to go to the bottom of the track view and then move that track to where I want it. All unnecessary steps and extra mouse clicks.

I'd prefer to be able to bounce that track adjacent to a track number I select (in the bounce to track dialog) and also at the point of bouncing have the ability to name the track.

This will help my workflow, especially when there's huge track counts in a project.

Cheers.

Searchable PDF documentation, preferably in the form of a manual that I can read via Kindle or other electronic reader.

The current online HTML with the Google Search results that include the "sponsored" links followed by helpful suggestions from the Music Creator 6 & 7 manuals is....very frustrating. I wouldn't say that it's completely useless, but I will say that I have gotten very little use from it.

Yeah... just had a thought of a possible way to approach one of my issues regarding (wishing for enable/disable track/promoted image while Lanes are displayed...

Would it be possible/easy to reverse the image colors for track/promoted and Lanes?

This would be another approach to my eye confusion regarding which are actually my clips for a given track though still not as desireable as the original enable/disable for the promoted images...

Yeah... Me again...

It's been a sore spot for me since it was implimented and though it has improved since inception, it is still a constant point of issue for me.

Lanes and visual aspects!

Yes, i posted about this again maybe one or two days ago asking again for a disable button for promoted/track images while Lanes are open/visible and it is related, but this is another issue.

Why must the track/promoted image be tall and lanes short when zoomed? If Lanes are open don't "you" think it woukd be more helpful to zoom the lanes being edited than the ghost image?

If I lasso multiple tracks that gave Lanes open, i get one with tall promoted image and short Lanes and others in lasso part of selection, but not zoomed.

Again I would expect that zooming such one wishes to edit lanes on multiple tracks simultaneously and need focus of the zoom on the Lanes.... Not the promoted image...

These issues are constantly counter-productive for me...

So, here's hoping some attention comes to these issues soon!

Thanks for lending an ear!

1) Option of NOT recording new take lanes (record mode Sound on Sound) to previously MUTED take lanes.
2) Easier way of selecting parts of one track and making a new track just of these "selected" parts either by copying or moving these to new track.

first one is actually a big boo-boo for me as it stands now.

Upgrade TTS-1 Sampler or similar to be able to load user SF2 files (with GM/GS maping)

TTS has a wonderful interface, but sounds are badly outdated and built in to the program...
There is still solid demand for GM/GS compatible synths, but all stable GM VSTs that I know
of are very old and 32 bit. If I am not mistaken TTS is 15 years old...

If Band/Cakewalk team is interested, there is a gentleman who is working on 64Bit GM compatible VST that can accept large, multifile SF2 banks. I tried test version. It works, but needs some polishing to work smooth with Cakewalk. I think if Bandlab team is not interested of creating good, expandable GM synth with patch/program changes, maybe it is a good idea to collaborate with developer to have such VST available for Cakewalk users, to substitute outdated TTS..

Not specifically related to me, but I think Bandlab team does not realize that there is a whole army of people who make backing tracks or karaoke, people who like to record a single instrument or voice to a GM/GS midi composition Most of these folks are using old technology. I am sure, if proper synth is introduced, they would appriciate Cakewalk with all its power.

Thank you for reading.

The list of commands and menu options that drops down when customizing the buttons on the Custom Control Module needs some love.

I did remember Noel saying that this was only a first-cut solution and that it would be worked on... but so far it has remained a long, difficult-to-scroll, cryptic thing. I have found it difficult to find specific commands in the list.

So, um, if this feature is on the list for improvement, consider this an up-vote.

The is in regard to the LP EQ (wasn't sure where to post this).  When a band is put in High Pass or Low Pass mode, it would be more helpful for the "Width" to switch to a decibel per octave value or add dedicated High Pass and Low Pass bands that behave the way most HP and LP do.

A new and modern script language.

Although CAL scripts are useful, it's absurdly limited, old, difficult, not intuitive (LISP-like) and poorly documented.
With a modern script language, CbB could evolve a lot, apart from the bakers' development.

Something like Python, Javascript, VBScript, in addition to CAL, would improve a lot the parallel development, by letting the user himself cover the current development gaps by removing the overhead from the bakers.

I've done that, but according to the developer of AZ Lua, unfortunately, this language only works for a whole track, that is, it does not obey the selection of a specific stretch of track. So it's practically useless.

Hi Meng,

1 - I use External Insert for Eq, FX and Compressors. In the list of effects on the tracks, I always see "External Insert".
It would be very convenient if I could change this name to replace it with the name of the actual machine (EQ, reberb ...)

Thank you.

Re: Feature Requests + Improvements [New 29/3/2018] 2018/08/12 13:21:45 (permalink)
some bugs needs attention
  • Midi-clip looping
i got this many times and it is really frustrating
from addictive drums i got midi clips, that i place into track, then i need to loop them
in tracktion i can just click the L button on top of the clip and it works well, in CW i got to go into menu, bounce to clip (sometimes) then groove-clip-looping - but it's alright, the error goes when it enlarge a midi clip just adding some space behind and to remove this space you got to move clip, bounce or try to do soemthing else, that actually wont work. So what i want is that button or menu entry that will simply make midi to work as loop, just for make it a track wide. it seems like it groove beats+1
  • Piano Roll muted clips view
when you modify a note clip, you need to move some, mark some, do something with notes and when you got other clips behind those notes will be marked as well. so if i got few "track lanes" all these lanes will be marked.
there's a button to not see muted clips, but if a whole track lane is muted (so clips are muted too) those notes still appear in edit mode. what i want is to not see all muted clips whatever they are personally muted or whole track lane, because i got to mute each clip.
  • WDM timing error (in wasapi too prob)
if i'm working in loop mode after sometime notes begins to work different, it feels like they are like not synced and played with some random delay. I don't remember if it happens in ASIO, sometimes just a whole clip not responding for some unknown reason, then if stop\play it works. Something wrong there and i'm not sure what is it exactly.
  • ACT control not reacting some knobs
well in learning mode for synth all knobs  are working
i decided to make some preset for all synths, so i don't have to learn each one for the same usual controls
i thought i could do this with ACT, but when i was setting knobs and sliders, some of them was acting, but a lot of others didn't
and actually i'm not sure if i can define a behaviour of those controls for synths

Reset Audio error and reload track plugins feature

Well sometimes it's not working as supposed. For example i got few post fx on channel and bus and when i reset audio i got sound from bus fx, also for rapture seesion i'm freezing track, but in the beginning i got sound from the end, that shouldn't be there. So i have to wait for some time until it stops or reload full project.

I propose to make a reset audio as a whole reset state of all plugins (bus and channel, maybe just a bus was like forgotten, not sure; turn off each plugin, until all be in the off state - then turn on) and pressing twice on reset will reload all plugins with ask menu reload yes\no + make a reset button for each track so only plugins of that track would reload.
you need to save current preset setup state and then load it back.
well the thinner solution is in making each plugin being reloadable.

Can we ever expect to have an arranger track? Also I've heard there are major problems with the Maschine software. I hope there's a fix coming for that.

I switched to Cubase when Gibson went sideways. There are many powerful features in Cubase but I loved the workflow in Sonar. I'd gladly switch back if we'd get an arranger track and had a functional Maschine integration.

I'm wondering if there's any remnant of the Product Wish List threads that I had so diligently created for a brand new Drum Map Mgr that hadn't been improved upon in maybe 15 yrs.  I did a cursory search for it but couldn't find anything. At any rate, I'm about to get intimate and serious with using AD2, and I realized I was going to need an INS file to use with the Piano Roll view. I was hoping someone had already created an INS file using the AD2 Stnd map. or if XLN had done something to that affect.

The feature I was hoping would be created when re-doing the drum map was the ability to export the Drum Map to an INS file, and BOOM! You're done.
Thanks,
KC

Please fix the Advanced feature in the BandLab's Cakewalk installer.
ALL of the folder selection fields in the installer when run in Advance mode are read only and cannot be changed.

This has been broken for a while and is still broken in  build 24.7.0.13

as for update process of bandlab assistant maybe you'd make a patch update mode?
i mean not downloading whole installer, all instruments etc, but if we know current version, then we can just download diffs or execs+dll's that were changed, so it wont take much resources and time to update. especially for hotfixes.
