Maybe this has been requested before (I would be surprised if it hasn't): Why are there only major key options listed in Meter/Key View? Music has both major and minor keys. Furthermore, there is a "relative minor" key for every major key. For example, C major has A minor as its relative minor. All the other major keys have a relative minor key associated with them, with the same key signature. Sure, I can consult the chart I made to find the correct major key associated with a minor key, and choose that key signature, but a professional DAW with so many great features should have this by default.

It's an easy addition. All you have to do is something like this:

1 #: G Major/E Minor.
2#:  D Major/B Minor
And so on.

Thanks, Mike

Been a Cakewalk user since back when it was a midi only sequencer. So first of all, thanks for saving my favourite DAW. Very appreciated! Was worried I would have to start learning a new system after all these years.

New features is always fun, just don't remove any features. And focus on bug-fixes primarely. As Cakewalk by Bandlab already is less buggy than the last version of Platinum, I have a feeling you already have that part under control

I've noticed that a few DAW's (e.g. ProTools, Studio One etc) support displaying gain reduction meters alongside the main volume meter on their console views, for tracks that have active compressor plugins.

Is this something that CbB could support?

A nice feature would be that notes in in the piano roll followed clip color, not just track color.

I am sure has already been requested but -

I would like the option for the simplistic "Tape Mode" algorithm in the Slip Stretch and Audio Transpose functions whereby time and pitch remain interrelated - when you shorten a clip the pitch goes up and vice versa.  ("Tape Mode" is the algorithm used in Loop Construction View and, AFAIK, that's the ONLY place it's used).

The default stretching algorithm in CbB preserves pitch with stretching - which is usually preferred for music - but also creates artifacts as this is an unnatural thing to do.  "Tape mode" simply speeds up or slows down the clip - like a tape recorder - and produces nearly zero artifacts (with the exception of vocal formants, "Mickey Mouse").  Tape Mode is far more transparent than "preserve pitch" when used on percussion and most instrument tracks.

This is a simple option request for the pitch and time tools NOT to be confused with "varispeed" that some are requesting to control an entire project playback rate.

A request for editing and sending "System Common Messages" and "System Real Time Messages" - as an example the Arturia Drum Brute can be sent "System Common Messages" to control front panel settings and "System Real Time Messages" to stop and start sequences. These are defined in the last two sections of Table 1 of the MIDI Spec:  https://www.midi.org/spec...ummary-of-midi-message

You actually can do that with this software since, well, forever. System Common Messages are the same as Sysex. If you know the syntax, that should be available in your device's midi documentation, you can send them directly from the Event View, or you can edit them and send them as sysex banks from the Sysex View. The start and stop messages are sent as specified in the Project tab of the Preferences menu.

So I could send a SysX message like F0 F3 01 F7 to send the Select Song 1? I was thinking the System Common Messages were stand alone messages.

How about a Track Delay function that allows users to delay a Track to create a stereo effect when tracks are duplicated and combined?

Yes, you could do that, I see no problem, that is just another midi event. Insert it in the Event View. Only thing would be, I guess, getting everything to sync fine. It would depend on what you want to do, exactly. Start/stop is a bit hit and miss, because it depends on how fast your drum machine reacts to the incoming messages, and how long both sequencers take to sync perfectly. The common practice seems to be leaving a setup bar at the beginning of the sequence for sysex messages, patch changes and so on. If what you want is synchronizing a full song in your Drumbrute with a Cakewalk song, just leave that first bar empty and place your Song Select at the first ticks.

Ah, by the way. I was thinking now that for live use maybe you could also send those from the Matrix view. I have't tried, but I guess that that start bar could also be programmed in a short loop, and send it as one shot from the Matrix view with a midi controller.

Volume, pan, + gain need contrasting colors

Many years ago in Sonar 8.5 we had different colors for the sliders of volume, pan, and gain in the Track pane. It was really easy to locate those widgets visually because of the different colors.

Since Platinum this has not been possible. All 3 sliders are forced to be the same color.  The Theme Editor is not able to do this either. If you change a color for one it changes it for all 3.

I thought that maybe I'd get used to it with Splat, but never have, which indicates it's not a matter of getting used to it, it's really the loss of something that would be helpful for all of us.

CbB certainly would benefit from this flexibility in colors.

The track Navigator is useless unless it shows everything in the tracks including envelopes and automation. This is the second project in a row where I have 200 extra measures after the recording stops and I can't find it. I've wasted another hour trying to find the culprit. Last time it was something in a hidden envelope. This time I've opened all the envelopes and automation and I checked the event list and I don't see anything. Please make a feature where it will destroy everything beyond a specified range. This is ridiculous!

An iPad app for wireless control.  All my Frontier Design Tranzports have finally taken a crap, and it's left me hanging big time.  All the other apps out there aren't dedicated and are half-assed in terms of Sonar compatibility/functionality.

At least just something that'll allow for basic transport functions.  I beg you.......

And if we could fix whatever has been making Sonar crash when playing with Melodyne Studio, that'd be icing on the Cakewalk, so to speak.

Take a look at TouchOSC or TouchDAW. They work on both Android and IOS and implements the full Mackie control protocol.

I don't have the inclination to read through 23 pages of post at the moment, so my apologies if these are repeats!

1) More flexible tempo tools, such as the ability to create different "takes" of a tempo map and switch between them. Or turn off tempo maps completely and use a single tempo (like DP's conductor track). I realize this may pose problems for audio, but surely there are ways around this, and I would really love the flexibility when working with MIDI...

2) True, tape-style Varispeed recording. Bands like the Beatles and Abba used this quite creatively, and other DAWs have found ways of implementing it (Pro Tools, Reaper).

OK...

Here's a thought I'm surprised I haven't asked for much earlier....

It would be incredibly helpful if there was a way to unfreeze/re-freeze individual outputs of a multi-output VSTi...

For example...

I have a drum synth setup with discreet tracks (Kick/Snare/Hat/4 Toms/Ride/Crash) and I wish to edit MIDI for the crash cymbals... I would like to leave all the other outputs frozen and edit the crash events, then re-freeze the crash track...

Sounds a bit convoluted, but I can imagine it! ;-)

In Console View, would love to be able to position instrument “sum” busses Among the instrument tracks they are summing, like in Studio One.

For example, kick in track > kick out track > kick sum bus. And... snare top track > snare bottom track > snare sum bus.

Right now, you have to leave the tracks you’re working on and scrolled horizontally, or pullover the sliding window that contains all the buses. It’s really kind of her PITA. The same for parallel compression buses, etc.

Thanks.

Use aux tracks instead of buses. They can perform the same tasks as buses but are located with the rest of the tracks.

Are these old projects? If so, the default order was changed some time ago and there is a per-project preference setting for lane order.

Thanks Steve, but no. This is a recent project and this happened in the middle of repetitive work that was behaving normally...

If I'm remembering the moment, i had just dragged a clip to a lane from another track and i wasn't quite spit on releasing on the lane i planned for it's destination so CbB needed to create a new lane to avoid overlap... i think.

I wonder if some how related to that scenario, called a routine that missed the update where the ordering of lanes was changed?

I would like to request a horizontal scale or time line sync where the piano roll view sizes it's time scale to the track view window and syncs the cursor. With an enable switch bold and upfront in the PRV gui.

Any chance of re-opening the Features & Ideas forum?

Having this one thread with interleaved discussions is getting harder and harder to follow.... and the F&I forum has voting buttons too!

Here is another:

Can we please have nameable, saveable external inserts?
I am beginning to use them en mass as I have 16 i/o ports to use.

This has resulted in 3 "External Insert" plugs with no other identifying attributes other than that.
It would be nice if after setting up the i/o ports, I could name it like "PCM 80" and have the i/o config saved with that configuration. This way if I wanted to add an instance of the PCM 80 hardware I could pick it from a menu and the last i/o pin setup used and saved with it would load.

Thank you.
