A young man in a wheelchair, no feeling in his limbs
Taken what life's dealt him, with his silly grins
But he's lookin to that final day, when he can be made new
And he can run and play...

And here's a man in prison, payin for his deeds
Wants to be with his family, providing for their needs
He's had a change of heart, but still he has to pay
Now he is livin, for that Glorious day...

Cause he was born to run, Born to Fly
Born to be free, like the wind in the trees
When the Savior comes, to take him home
He will be free, like he was meant to be...

A woman in her final days, all her friends gone
Tryin to remember, all that she has done
She talks about those people, that help her every day
And she can't wait for Heaven, and we often hear her say...

That I was born to run, Born to Fly
Born to be free, like the wind in the trees
When the Savior comes, to take me home
I will be free, like I've wanted to be

Cause I was born to run, Born to Fly
Born to be free, like the wind in the trees
When the Savior comes, to take us home
We will be free, like we were meant to be... Like we were meant to be...

Thanks so much, Marcus.  :) I've only written lyrics to about 5 songs, so they obviously don't come easily to me.  :)

Really glad you enjoy this one, Robby.

Thanks, you guys.  I sure wish I could get ahold of his harddrive and get the .wav file of this, but that probably won't happen.  Anyway, thanks again.

And Robby, thanks, but you don't really need to bring this up again...

Good music is timeless. And you wrote a beautiful song, and Jimmy's performance brought it to life. (stop me when I start lying...) It used to make me cry but not anymore.

I would bump James's song he did with Tim (my love will find you) but I am under specific orders not to do so. Music we love, "we love?" And is love wrong?

And it is better than crazy people ranting, no? Maybe? Perhaps? Naaa, I'm pretty sure it's better.

Were you born an a$$hole, or do you have to work at it? Either you were given a remarkable ... errr... gift... or you are the hardest working SOB in a$$holedom. I mean, seriously, nobody does it better. I am sure you are an inspiration to a$$holes everywhere.

Good lyric. I remember my first lyric that I put to music and finished it by performing it. I'm sure it felt good to complete this. Good mix performance. I'm not big on the vocals style. However he sings well and has emotion to his tone. Nice Job, I'm looking forward to hearing more of your lyrics.

Cheers, Terry

Thank you, Terry.  It always surprised me when I can come up with decent lyrics.  It's not easy for me, but it's a cool challenge now and then.  I think this is one of my favorite ones that Jimmy did.  I think we would have done more together if he had lived.  He sure did teach me a lot here!  Thanks again.

Thanks Shawn!

Thanks, Rimshot.  That's very kind to say.  I'm happy that we're singing some of my songs in church now.  I'd like to record at least one of them, but finding a time when me and a singer can get together is just impossible these days.  Hopefully some day.  Thanks again!

Re:Born to Fly 2013/05/13 22:52:36 (permalink)
Herb said it best, something like "as the blade selects the warrior, the song selects the writer" (paraphrasing...) I've written many songs, but I've only actually written just a couple of them, the others (most of them?) I merely "channeled..." I was there, it happened, however well... I can't really explain it? But if you've written a few? You know what I'm saying. You need to write more lyrics? This is one of my favorite songs. It touches something deep inside. Some of it is Jimmy and his situation? But some of it (most of it I think) is the result of the writing, and not Jimmy's performance or situation. It's really beautiful. And as I've said many times, music speaks to us and touches us in a way not many things can. Music is primal... It speaks to us at the "hunter gatherer level..." I believe it touches us at the cave man level? (my personal belief)

Re:Born to Fly 2013/05/15 22:20:22 (permalink)
Thanks again, Grant.  I agree it's great playing and singing.  And he did it in about 2 days.  Here's the song I wrote for him not long before he passed away.  I sent him a copy with me singing it.  I've changed the words so it's more general so maybe some day I'll record it for real.  He was a great guy.  Took me a long time to figure out what he was saying half the time, but once I figured it out, I realized he was a goldmine of information and help and encouragement.  A very good man.  Died way too young.

God Bless You, Jimmy

Every now and then
you meet a special friend
one who makes you more than you could be alone
one who sees you differently than you see yourself
he looks out for you, as if you were his own

God bless you, Jimmy you’re such a special friend
always kind and giving, good to the end
God bless you, Jimmy for goin’ the second mile
Somehow you always make me smile.

And every now and then, we stumble and fall,
something bigger than ourselves washes over us,
When the pain comes in waves and we don’t know what to do,
It’s good to know in God we can trust.

And now a tough time’s come, but your friends still love you
if we could, we’d take the pain away
we hate to see you hurting, we wanna be there for you
so for now, we’ll remember to pray

God bless you, Jimmy you’re such a special friend
always kind and giving, good to the end
God bless you, Jimmy, for goin’ the second mile
we pray that God will give you back your smile
God please give Jimmy back his smile
